Official things you actually dislike about GTA IV thread

Recommended Posts

gta iv sucks because it doesn't have chrome adders, dumbed-down gameplay, trevor, or yoga

Hipster.

[XBOX 360 complaint] I absolutely love the shooting in this game, but i wish enemy health would be shown in Singleplayer free-aim when aiming at them. It annoys me that health is shown for enemies in Multiplayer, but not SP. Just a small gripe, but still something that doesn't make sense to me.

Lethal Vaccine

There is enemy health shown on PC. When I watched "GTA Series Guides" videos for the missions and walkthroughs when I went for 100% this past month, I noticed when he shot the enemies, there was this tiny circle that displayed and little notches in the circle. When those notches were all gone, the enemy was dead, of course. Really neat. However, this does NOT happen in my PS3 Single Player IV game...

Never played Online, so I can't comment with that.

I hate the free aim sometimes. Niko/Luis/Johnny never targets the person I want to shoot.

Yep, that's why i put [Xbox 360 complaint] in my post. Never played on PS3, but i figured it was the same. The fact it shows enemy health on PC is another reason it kinda annoys me. Obviously it isn't needed, but it would be nice to have.

In Xbox 360 Online (PS3 too, i figure), it shows enemy health in free-aim just like in those GTA videos.

Horrible freeway design.

Take a drive along the Algonquin - Dukes Expressway and look in detail where the the map devs placed the road sign gantry supports. They are placed right in the middle of the breakdown lane. There are so many times I have crashed a car into those things. Additionally I strongly dislike how on/off ramps are designed. At least V had them designed properly, mainly having one lane joining the freeway.

Horrible traffic path mapping.

The area in question is Union Drive West, particulary southbound of where the Civilisation Committee building is. After you have emerged from the underpass there both traffic lanes try to criss-cross each other for reasons unknown to me. Further southbound where the UDW passes under the Hickey Bridge both lanes of traffic want to turn off the freeway at the off ramp there.

Cheers.

The bigest pain in the ass is certainly when you bump a cop car and you get 1 star wanted level. And cops are pursuing you like you would commite some crime or something. It`s f*cking anoying and unrealistic. Sure they would try to catch you in real life also for bumping into their car but they wouldn`t hunt you down like some hardcore criminal.

R* should make this so you would get a ticket for destroying the property or something.

And the fact that you simply can`t fire a weapon without getting an instant 1 or even 2 wanted stars if cop is very close to you- and the chance that it is is very big since those fat motherf*cker are everywhere. If you ever shooting pigeons you would know how frustrating that is. Try to fire a weapon and count, you`ll get wanted level 8 out of 10 times doing so except if you are in some deserted part..

Not to mention that you can`t steal a car without being spotted by some cop in 80-90% cases.

These are considered to be minor things that are anoying but they are big enough to spoil your fun for sure. The same goes for beating peds. In 8 out of 10 times when i pick a fight with some ped, again some f*cking cop sees me and he is near you in a moment, so you are in position to being arested. If you leave it be, you`ll loose all weapons but if you start runing you get 2 stars and before you know a f*cking NOOSE team is on your ass and you got 4 or 5 stars just because you defended yourself when some retarded taxi driver attacked you when you accidently bumped his car.

These are realy anoying things. You can`t beat, shoot or steal as much as you`d like to because cops are after you right away and pursuits at 4 or 5 stars aren`t so fun anymore as they used to be in the old GTA games when you were almost joking with cops and the army because they were so ridicolously weak. In HD era 4, 5 or 6 stars is serious bussines and you are dead before you know it.

It`s kind of cool and more realistic but anoying at the same time. The problem is that you are having less fun and you get caught right away for minor ofences like car theft or beating a ped.

Otherwise it`s a f*cking awesome game but these are the things that can spoil your fun.

I think it's the opposite. Cops are a joke in HD, specifically IV/TLaD/TBoGT (V is a different story, plus the system is the worst to date - magic cops)

4 stars and below is a joke in IV. They don't even shoot from their vehicles until 5 and 6 stars. 6 stars might be hard due to cops spawning ALL around you and you're only option is the subway tunnels or this one location in the middle of two bridges, other than that the system is similar to V's where Rockstar will spawn cops in front of you and you can't escape, ever. As for 5 stars, it's tricky to escape on the streets without going into the subway tunnel, but I did it numerous times. 4 stars and below is literally a joke, though. Nothing happens and you can even escape them on foot in this game super easily...

I don't mind bumping a cop and getting a wanted level, I've shot a few pigeons back to back to back with a 1 and 2 star wanted level. Cops don't do sh*t and run like they have a big load of sh*t in their pants. They're fat pigs.

5 stars in 3D? Are you kidding me? FBI destroys you in 1 second. Come close to FBI road block? Death in seconds...

Also, I used a Helitours Maverick in IV when I did the Pigeons. Always landed on a building, thus 1 star cops can never get me. Shoot pigeon, get into helicopter, fly to next location, and by the time I did that, I'd lose it. It takes 5-10 seconds...Only way in 3D Era to lose the cops is police bribes or pay and spray. IV's system is the biggest joke to date...

Edited by Militia

Well if you compare IV/EFLC wanted level system to V than it is a joke of course but it is still harder than in 3D era. 5 stars were dangerous only in VCS/LCS, the rest of it was just a joke.

I have never problem to evade them in IV, however i`m trying to say that you can`t have fun by killing and beating peds. Try to fight one ped, you wont have to wait 5 seconds before a cop will spot you. You can`t beat the ped if cop is trying to arest you.

I don`t know about your case but in my game they shoot on me from cars at 2 stars only.

They aren`t hard to escape though, i have never even needed to use a subway, pay n spray, call Kiki or Francis because i evade them untill 5. At 5 and 6 stars i always use subway.

It`s not hard to evade but they spoil your fun with things i wrote above

Lethal Vaccine

They certainly don't shoot at you from cars at two stars. They do shoot at you on foot at 2 stars, though. They use MP5's from the back of the Enforcer at 5 and 6 stars, they also shoot from the FIB Buffalo, NOOSE Patriot, NOOSE Cruiser, and regular Police Cruisers at 5 and 6 stars, as well.

Idk, cuz in GTA III the FBI destroy anything in sight within seconds since they are using M16's or something rediculous...You think driving through Saint Marks is bad with the Mafia, it's just as bad on 5 stars with the FBI. Not to mention they are relentless and ram the sh*t out of the vehicle until you catch fire, thus you get out of the car, and once they aim at you, you're dead...VC and SA are similar in nature, too, just like LCS and VCS. All 3D Era FBI is insane and so is the Tanks. Even in AP vehicles if you bump into a Tank, you explode immediately (except for SA). Cops in 3D may not shoot at you with great accuracy, but instead they'll lay spike strips down so your tires are popped (unless they are PP) and you won't have a chance after you take numerous rams from their vehicles...

Not to mention that you can`t steal a car without being spotted by some cop in 80-90% cases.

really? you must be unlucky. i always steal a pig car in front of the police station and i only get a wanted level 50% of the time.

-There's no safehouse in Broker/Dukes after Roman's Sorrow.

I've always wondered about this too. I suppose it makes sense from a story perspective as Roman and Niko fled to Bohan, but it still would've been nice to get a safehouse in that vicinity later on when things settled down. Perhaps somewhere in Meadow Hills.

I was expecting to live in a safehouse in Dukes, dang. That's one of the reasons why I haven't explored Dukes a lot.

I would have liked it very much if the McRearys were to give you a safehouse in Dukes. It could have been explained in story that it was a surplus safe house the gang didn't need anymore, and given to you after Three Leaf Clover.

Cheers.

Well then i really must be the unlucky one because i rarely manage to do that and not get spotted by a f*cking cop. I ussually brake into 20 cop vehicles infornt of the station in Broker at the begining in order to obtain shotgun ammo and i`m being spotted by cops in 90%. Either i have such unluck and you`re so lucky or there is some sort of bug in my game, because i have f*cking cops on every corner.

I have no problems to evade wantel evel up to 4 (included) but you can`t really say it`s easy- well it is compare to V but still.. Pay n Spray is completely useless in HD era since you need to get it in unspotted so it`s much easier to just evade the cops.

In 3D era you could go into pay n spray infront of cops and you lost wanted level. Which was f*cking dumb and unrealistic, so i prefer this way like in HD era.

But just the same no matter what some of you will say, you can`t do the rampages in such amount as you did in 3D era. You can`t even beat one ped without being instantly spotted by some cop.

f*ck the safehouse man, you can be in every corner of the map in less than few minutes. And when you`re not in the mood for driving just hail a cab and fast travel to the mission trigger point. You got more than enough money anyway so cab budged isn`t really a problem.

Bit of a bump.

Another thing I dislike is the lack of customizing. I would have loved to custmoize Niko a lot more and also car custmoizing which would have suited the game perfectly.

I kinda wish 4 had the rpg character development in SA which gave a sense of progression.

I love the game but this is another thing that disappoints me.

I agree with customizing Niko, he should have had more hairstyles, clothes and safehouses. I am indifferent towards car customizing, though. It's cool, but i love how some cars in IV had special variants. For example, the Sultan TT, Sentinel XS, Uranus LOZ, of course the Sultan RS, and a few others. Those cars would lose their uniqueness if car modding was in the game. I'm not saying i don't want car modding, but i don't mind it's not in the game. However, i heavily disagree with the RPG thing for Niko. It just doesn't fit his character and the theme of the game. That's my opinion, though.

One thing I didn't like about the clothing selection was no short sleeve shirts. I get that Liberty City is cold, but can't we at least have one or two?

the beginning its really boring and it makes me not want to replay it plus it makes no sense. niko is new to LC how the hell is he suppose to drive to all these damn places.

For those complaining about the wanted level system in V... It's the same but in IV you have to get out of the bubble. I'm having such a good time hiding from the cops inside the bubble. Especially if I'm down an alley and I just watch them drive down the street. And did you guys know that you can also hide in the bushes ?

With a GPS? How do you think people drive in real life cities they've never been to before?

-Almost nothing to do in Alderney, especially Industrial.

-Auto-aim in multiplayer.

-If an NPC is hit by a falling or flying object(such as a lamppost), they use the 3D-era falling animation.

Sometimes I want a riot mode.

Not like the one in SA at the end of the game, just a cheat who gives guns to everyone and they start shooting each other. 3D era days.

Damn, there's isn't even a proper riot mod in PC. There's a few attempts out there, but they don't work with the latest patch. And someone made it on PS3.

Also, the game needed better car customization, not just a few extras on some cars. Niko worked for Brucie, so why not? Replace bumpers, add spoilers, change tyres and rims, apply the color you want and performance upgrades.

Another thing I'd love to see in a GTA is a decent race track. Not an oval track, a real race track. Being able to set lap times, test the performance of any car and have races in it. With IV's handling it would be gold.

Using GPS?

What the hell were you doing in the mission "Cousin Bellic"?

It's you ( player ) who is supposed to pay attention to all the basics ( just like in every GTA ) and learn before going ahead with the game.

GPS System was known even before the release of the game via previews!

Despite the fact that the real life NYPD has approximately 20% female police in their ranks, Rockstar never thought to include them in the final version of the game. I would have loved to hear what kind of humorous comments Rockstar would have developed for them. I am aware of the 'existence' of a female officer in the beta trailer, but the final version of the game is what I'm looking at (there have been threads in this forum discussing this).

Cheers.
