Look at stealth games and you see how it works. Splinter cell came out 1 year later and did it better than sa.

Splinter Cell is specifically designed for stealth. SA did a brilliant job for it's time as a game that wasn't a stealth game.

Checkpoints was needed in IV,  it was a huge pain for to die halfway through a mission and then start all over again.

GTA 4 does have checkpoints, it just A: doesn't tell you and B: is very infrequent with them, which is a shame as I feel they do it well.

I think the expansions have them alot more though.

For instance, Bad Cop Drop has it skip straight to the gunfight instead of having the cops tail you to the location again and Buyer's Market skips straight to the gun fight instead of making you go get the heroin and back again.

The problem for me is how you're never told and how bipolar they are.

I feel the map is a bit too big with not enough landmarks if I'm honest, not to extent of Los Santos, but I feel like the map should have been slightly smaller, but have more places like a usable shopping mall instead of having lots of  buildings that you can't enter.

One of my favourite open worlds is Postal 2, because while its very small, you can enter almost every building on the map.

Also the Liberty City Gubclub wasn't a location til' Chinatown wars, which is a bit dissapointing since one of the promo-screenshots show civilians shooting at a target in a gunshop.

I also feel the gangs were poorly handled, it took me a good while before I actually realised there are gangs in the open world, I just thought they were armed civilians, Gangs needed to stick out more/attack you when the story makes them hostile, they all look too much like ordinary civilians.

I want the AOD to attack Johnny for diving on their turf.

No I am not a drunkard.  It would have just been a nice little feature for Niko to have a drink when he wants.

just busting ya chops, I totally agree with you, I wish comrades bar was accessible and the other diners across the city too. See people, this is what happens when a game is rushed, for me they can take however long they need to make VI perfect instead of half-assing it and we having to complain later.

Or what they probably might do with VI is 6, rush the game, then probably add more things later as a DLC making us pay for it.

I'll wait until 2025 if I have to. Just give us the ultimate GTA we've been dreaming of. If it's just what I expect I wouldn't even mind if it's the last GTA. I want R* to build it like it's the last GTA they are doing. In one of the interviews Dan Houser mentioned that they built SA like it's the last GTA they're gonna do. They need to think like that again in order to push everything to it's limit.

they don't even want to make 5 storymode/offline dlc so lets pray they don't go with that approach again

I love how passive-aggressively titled a similar thread like this is in the GTAV section, while this one is gentler, as to not harm/upset a child's feelings

🤔 makes me wonder

Agreed, and you can't even replay story missions either. With the exception of The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Nothing else to do? Vigilante? Races? Brucie's/Stevie's Car Thefts? Jacob's Drug Deliveries? Bowling? Causing mayhem? etc...

I know, but I feel like there should have been more to do, the game is more fun if you're playing the storyline. I still play it to go on a rampage though.😃

Maybe it's just me, but the game feels far more natural to complete everything before the end of the story. I like to imagine Niko's finally given up his life of crime so still doing assassinations, LJ's drug runs etc feels a bit wrong IMO.

Personally i would rather just start a fresh save like I do with all of R*'s games when I finish the stories. I would argue every GTA is more fun during the story because you can bounce between missions and free roam at will, but after the story's done it feels like there's little incentive to keep playing on.

The only I've spent playing post story in GTA IV was when I went for 100%. Infact I'm almost done with my current save and I'll probably listen to some of the post story phone calls and that's it. I'll leave it and start a new save a bit later in the year.

As much as Roman wanted to play bowling I don't think I've seen any bowling trophies in his cab company or apartment.

Too apartment focused (though this is understood based on the location and overall story too). There were houses in certain parts of the map I would've liked to have bought.

I always figured Niko was paid more for each mission than what we actually have deposited into our total. But yes, I agree with this, we should have seen deductions to make that plot point a little more fleshed out.

-How there are no parachutes. If we even give the lack of planes a pass, I think the lack of parachutes feels like a more important thing in a city full of skyscrapers and connected tall buildings. Having to always land a chopper everywhere really doesn't do it for me.

Little wonder why parachutes were added in BOGT. Besides being fun, it was also incredibly helpful. Especially if the helicopter is badly damaged and you've gotta ditch it in mid-air. In IV, if it was on fire while you were flying or if the blades broke off, you were basically f*cked if you were too high up.

The amount of save slots. It specially gets annoying when you realize they are shared with EFLC. I ran out of them so soon.

Grasping at the straws?😛

No, but seriously it's a fair point to be honest. It's very easy to accidentally overwrite a save of TLAD and TBOGT. Usually I try to space them out to avoid this issue yet strangely enough GTA IV saves are blanked out when saving from TLAD or TBOGT. Really though they should've been separate like Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nghtmare.

Nah just trying to be creative instead of repeating the same sh*t a billion times like you do😉

I actually do remember accidentally overwriting a TLAD save once and it was my best save too. I was this close to throwing the controller out of the window.

Hey that's not very nice. My whining is always original.😥

Coming to think about it yeah I'm pretty sure I've overridden saves before. The only saving grace are the autosaves.

YES because I like to make multiple saves through GTA games to replay missions I filled up all my GTA IV ones, then when I played Episodes it never occurred to me they'd share the slots (I thought the thing about IV saves written in the slots was just indicating a "IV Episodes" empty slot) so I saved over them (including the 100% one). Absolutely terrible. Why on Earth do they share slots? If I'd bought the Episodes disc without ever buying IV I would've been provided with save slots, and vice versa. And there's no benefit to it, in every other way the games are separate. So what possible reason is there for them to be combined, is there one?

Going through IV again I've just gone over most of my Episodes ones since they're so short there's not much need for more than a main save and one extra one half way through the missions for replaying and I'd much rather have lots of IV saves. It also sucks that when you use the replay feature for TBOGT missions it doesn't play the opening cut scene, being entertained by that like half the reason for replaying.

But at least in IV there's quite a lot of times when there's loads of different missions open at once and you can choose the order, it means one save can let you go back to a ton of different missions. Like I have one with Playboy/Dwayne, Francis, Packie, ULP missions and Hostile Negotiation ready to go, just from that one save I can get to loads of different missions in a session depending on which ones I play.

-We can't order anything inside the Superstar cafe.

-Comrades bar being closed.

-Random encounters are way too basic and don't offer much.

Good point about superstar cafe I always felt odd to see such a big restaurant but you can't buy anything even a drink even though it's there.

It also feels pointless because it doesn't serve any purpose for any story missions (its used once only in TLAD if I am not wrong)

OT:

-I hate that you can't go to some places using taxi like happiness island or inside the airport

-some of the features are completely pointless like car washer and helicopter tour.

Even the subway system feels useless because you can travel faster using taxi using skip ride feature.

-the vigilante missions are boring and repetitive compared to older gtas there's no reward other than money.

And all the gang activities feels same and repetitive (unlike in 3D era where gang violence gradually became more harder as you completed each level)

The Cafe was used in one of the Random Encounter missions(Jeff) where you had to follow his wife.

Even though it's the best GTA for parkour it could be better....why are there tons and tons of fire escapes that are clearly low enough to the ground that you should be able to jump and grab on to them/climb up them but it won't let you, and/or that stop just short of letting you on the roof? This needlessly limits climbing opportunities.

8 hours ago, Jack Lupino said:

If I'm not mistaken you don't even get money for them, only thing it does is count towards percentage to do 20. I like them though, you have a choice of 3 different types and since they're infinite they could be expected to be quite simple/repetitive. You also get the most wanted missions and the assassinations so the game really does give you quite a lot of "vigilantism" content. But I do think there should've been pay and/or a reward for them.

I think the car wash is slightly more useful than in V since the cars really do look dirty when they need a wash. And I like the detail that if you go in with a roofless car it gets handwashed instead of turned away. You get to do the amusing Clean Getaway mission for Vlad because of it too, worth having just for that.

Helicopter tour isn't great but I did find it quite funny hearing Niko's bored/polite reactions to the tour guide's facts the first time, plus when you're new to the game it is quite cool to see the sights like that, and it's fun to bail out in the middle of the tour, and it means there's ample helicopters to steal. I feel like it benefits the game to have plenty of small details like that just to enrich the feeling of realness and lots going on in the city even if they're not all amazingly useful.
