Official things you actually dislike about GTA IV thread

When you take cover behind a wall and walk up to the corner of the wall the protag walks SO slow.

How small the map is. However, it's understandable. The first game introducing the RAGE engine.

Some useless radio stations no one likes: The Vibe, IF99(some good songs), JNR and K109 the Studio.

Lack of customization (haircuts, facial hair, tattoos, little clothing, no fat, skinny or muscle optimization like in SA)

Flying through the windshield when you crash at 40mph

Flying 150ft in the air when you fly off a motorcycle

Beta aircraft cut (Andromeda, others)

I disagree with everything except the cover system and lack of customization. Not trying to start one of those annoying internet arguments, though, so please dont get offended. Anyway, the cover system is clunky, Red Dead Redemption did it a million times better. Even V didn't do it as good as RDR, as in RDR, you can open doors and smash windows. However, it was their first attempt, so i can give it a slight slide. I rarely use cover systems in Rockstar Games, though, with Max Payne 3 being the exception. Map size has never been a problem for me. Admittedly, the map being bigger would be cool, but as it stands right now - they have it perfectly fine for my liking. North Alderney and Dukes are suburb, Bohan and North Algonquin are low income areas, Mid Alderney and Algonquin are concrete jungles, South Alderney is industrial. Not sure where to put Broker, but Hove Beach has an amazing essence to it. For their first attempt at the new engine, i think they did perfect. None of the radio stations are useless to me, as JNR, K109 and The Vibe all have amazing songs. I don't like IF99, but i wouldn't call it useless. Just like i don't particularly like the Death Metal version of LCHC, i still don't think it's useless. It adds variety and tone to the city, which is another reason the city itself is amazing, in my opinion. I agree on the lack of customization, though. Niko had 3 hairstyles over the course of development; a near bald style, a long caesar style and the buzzcut we have now. Add in a simple bald option, and that right there is 4 styles - the same as Michael and Trevor from V. Same with facial hair, i think it would've been easy enough to have his normal faded beard, clean shaven, a goatee and a darker beard option - all in 2D limits, though. No bushy beards or anything, 2D designs would have sufficed perfectly fine. As always, more clothes are always welcome. Muscle/fat, as you said, isn't nessasary at all, especially for the IV saga characters' backgrounds and motives. CJ was a hoodrat, going from rags to riches and trying to make a name for himself. It makes more sense for him to have the fat options. I heavily disagree with what you said about the windshield cannon and motorcycle crashes. The ragdoll physics, although a little light at times, was amazing. Bailing and crashing was incredibly hilarious, while shooting pedestrians looked very much-so realistic, more than V's (although, again, i believe Red Dead looked better than both). The crazy ragdoll physics to this day are a lot of fun for me, some of IV's charm lies in them, for me. Lastly, the Andromeda was a plane, right? As Rockstar themselves said, planes don't fit in with GTA IV's map and i personally agree with them. Again, don't take offense to this. You made some good points, and i just wanted to give my opinion on what was said.

ON TOPIC: Sorry for the novel above. As stated in it, the character customization and cover system weren't the best, and after playing Red Dead and GTA 5, it could definitely have been better.

Lethal Vaccine

-The friendship sistem (i lke to get called by roman,i just dont like if turn him down i lose frienship points)

There's an easy fix for this. When any friend/girlfriend asks to do something accept it and ring them back to cancel. You wont lose any "like".

Lol...I believe I posted this same thing back on page 1...When replying to Mr. Vance's post. It also says this on GTA Wiki, lol...

Or maybe it was the LC Appreciation Thread...

EDIT: http://gtaforums.com/topic/525709-the-liberty-city-appreciation-thread/page-12

Post 356 says this same thing. All the threads are running together, LOL

I love IF99. Cruising around Bohan with Gil Scott Heron playing is a great experience. I wish there would have been more 90s hip hop like Mobb Deep, Wu Tang and hardcore NY stuff like that. It would have fit the vibe of the game perfectly.

Yeah that's why I said some good songs because I only like a few of them.

Amazingly, the map WAS bigger back in the beta: http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100804165937/gtawiki/images/0/08/BetaLCGTA4.png (sorry for how small it is)

But yeah, I do find the ragdoll physics hilarious, it's just that on a mission when you're chasing someone I ALWAYS crash (I'm a bad driver :p) and then I fly and bounce like 20 times. :(

It might not seem like it but IV and EFLC will both remain as my favorite GTA game. Believe it or not, I have more things to bicker about for V.

Notorious BIG too. Why didn't they add some of his stuff? GTA SA had perfect rap stations, IV has half good half sh*t in it.

Well gta 4 does have the song, top down, getaway driver. both really great for a cruise.

I agree. But I hate how the DJ spews BLET BLET during Price On Your Head (one of the best songs), and the fact Lil Wayne's on the station, which is one of the things I hate in the game:

Quality inconsistency (Radio stations)

IV sort of fell short with the hip hop and V fell short with the rock. IV's rock station is much better and the one in EFLC is pretty much perfection.

TLAD Rock and Metal station were as awesome as SA Rock and VC Metal, if not better. Too bad none of that good stuff got put in V.

The rock is really a letdown in V. It's not bad but there should be a soft rock station and hard rock station. The old school hip hop station in V is great though. I already have good memories of racing though LS in the second mission while NWA-Appetite for Destruction plays.

-Liberty City

What`s wrong with HD era LC? It`s f*cking awesome for a 2008 game, it actually resembles a NYC comparing to that boring little dump of 3D era`s LC.

It`s a great map and it isn`t dull and depresive hole like it was in 3D era. It has beautifull shiny days and it actually gives you the feeling of this big crowded metropolis. While in the old GTA LC map you had a feeling that you are in some ruined eastern europe sh*thole in the middle of cold war..

- Broken economy system: Too much money, too little to spend.

- Lack of stock markets in the game: For a game set in a city based off NYC, I feel IV badly needed some stock market involvement.

- The "middle" part of Alderney: Too bland for my liking. Easily my least favorite borough in the game. (Although Acter is awesome).

- Blur filter: I don't mind the grittiness but this feels too fuzzy on my eye. Glad there is an option to disable it on the PC version.

- Lack of car customization: Would have been the icing on the cake for a game with such good car handling.

- Physics can get annoying sometimes: I don't fancy Niko tripping on the road for the slightest touch during a shootout.

- Lack of random events: Rockstar did a great job with the city, but they could have added random gang shootouts and stuff, like in the III Era.

- PC Port: Utter sh*t. Thank god for patches.

That is all I can think of, for now.

There are a few things that I dislike/have gripes with in 'vanilla' GTA IV;

1. The lack of proper implementation of Counties and Jurisdictions in game. Why do LCPD cars drive around New Alderney for example, and why are there LCPD signs on police stations in the aforementioned state.

2. The lack of dedicated NASP police cars for NA State Troopers to drive around in and counterpart municipal ones for the Alderney City PD.

3. NOOSE vehicles driven by municipal police officers(the Enforcer was done correctly). Was it so hard for Rockstar to create seperate police officer models for the NOOSE cars?

Cheers.

It's kind of strange considering they went to the effort of giving the cops in Alderney their own uniforms.

I know am I right? There is a topic about this that describes the problem in more detail, here is the link.

Unfortunately it has been locked by the actions of an inconsiderate user. I wanted to revive it. :/

I kinda wish there's a mod that makes Alderney Police uses their own livery.

That is all I can think of, for now.

1. It's not broken, just underutilized.

2. This, I can agree on. Especially with those BAWSAQ ads at Star Junction.

3. Yes, very apparent on PS3.

4. Very apparent on dual-core (like mine). Not so apparent on quad-cores and up. I've heard somewhere from the internet that IV treats PC hardware as a X360 hardware, therefore performing better if the processor got *atleast* 3 cores.

GTA IV on PS3 is a jaggied, aliased mess running in 640p. Honestly the 360 version is much better, and i'm really glad that i played that one.

Agree. IV on PS3 and PC is simply a complete mess. Both having performance issues and unoptimized codes.

Thank god V fixed that. Superior texture filtering on PS3 in GTA V? Seems like it.

I liked the hand to hand combat a lot in IV but feel it should have been utilized in missions more. After the first couple of times, we didn't really use it. Like in the Bernie mission where we confront the gay basher in Middle Park, we should have just chased him down and kicked sh*t outta him, or maybe beat him with a bat. Instead we chase him down and kill him, then drop Bernie off at a Perseus like it was nothing. It really breaks my immersion when trying to play somewhat realistically.

Also, I think Niko should have known earlier that he shouldn't be carrying out contracts for a loud mouth idiot like Brucie.

I own GTA IV on 360 and PS3 and I agree. I've always preferred the 360 version even though I got it on PS3 at release since I didn't have a 360 at the time.

There was a blur on the PS3 version? Huh, odd. I don't recall ever noticing it once I went from 360 to PS3.

Blur is present on both versions, but it's more noticeable on the PS3 version.

To cover up the aliasing of the PS3 version. Honestly the X360 version of IV don't need blur at all, the game already used 2x MSAA (yes, MSAA, not FXAA or any other post-process AA).

One other thing I really dislike about IV is the AI.. I wish I could drive around realistically without some idiot in a Cavalcade hit the back of my nice Turismo.
