Official things you actually dislike about GTA IV thread

Recommended Posts

Since the old thread got buried and inactive long ago, I decided to make a new thread.

THINGS YOU'VE ACTUALLY DISLIKED ABOUT GTA IV

Even though I'm a huge fan of GTA IV, every game got its downsides. Share about what you disliked about IV, and let's discuss about it!

I love the game, but there is actually one thing I would change (it was fixed in TLaD and TBoGT). That thing is the lack of rewards for certain tasks in the game. I wouldn't mind getting weapons for Most Wanted or Vigilante missions, some special cars spawning next to my safehouse, etc. like it was done in TLaD with guns and bikes waiting for you after completing races or gang wars.

It's not I dislike the lack of rewards, but I wouldn't mind changing it to something more useful than achievements.

Other than that, completely nothing, I love every single bit of it.

Motorcycle handling in IV. TLAD improved upon this. The only motorcycle that handled great in IV was the Sanchez.:)

What Tycek said, getting rewards for completing certain tasks, a M4 and Combat shotgun shouldve spawned in Nikos safe houses. After doing the most wanted missions.

The multiple choice thing. I love when they give us the option to execute different mission in different ways, but I hate when major characters statuses are left up for debate. I'd have preferred if we'd just have been forced to kill Derrick, forced to choose revenge over deal etc.. Story is the number one thing in GTA for me and multible/alternative ending don't float my boat at all.

The lack of side-missions/activities.

I actually feel the car and motorcycle physics in GTA 4 are far, FAR superior in terms of realism to GTA 5. Watch a clip on youtube of the driving in GTA 4 speed up, and it looks likes driving in GTA 5 in regular speed.

The things i don`t like in IV are motorcycles, no mission checkpoints like in TBOGT and TLAD, and that the best weapons like RPG and Carbine are unlocked in the second half of the game instead of earlier and that`s about it.

But the thing i realy f*cking hate are BIKES, BIKES and BIKES!

Oh did i mention i hate missions where you have to chase someone on BIKE?

Edit;

I need to add that i also dislike too sensitive colission detection, like when you just slightly touch a car while on foot it will knock you down imediatly and you`ll will lose nice part of your health.

Crossing the street is a f*cking dangerous thing in IV, so is in real life i know but realy, you don`t need to be knocked down when touching a non-moving vehicle though.

* Cannot enter convenience stores.

* Cannot hold up and rob stores for cash.

* No random shootouts in the streets between rival gangs, and not enough random crime too.

* Cannot buy properties or businesses.

* Very minor, but it gets to me, hardly any buses.

* No form of gambling like card or dice games at least.

But there are enough good things about IV for me to overlook the above stuff and really enjoy and appreciate the game.

There aren`t many things to dislike in such a great game like IV is so this topic wont have 10 or 20 pages  filled with complains but there are a few of them we can name.

And yeah i agree with @official general with lack of random crime and police pursuits after NPCs. But you can see occasionaly when cop is pulling over someone or chasing them. It is all in realistic manner since the cop car turns up later and pick the arested guy. Not like in 3D era when cop chased someone and then he just let him go lol.

Cops in IV at leas have a bit of inteligence

Yeah 200 pigeons alone would be a nightmare let alone if you consider that you got 1 star wanted level (or even 2 if a cop is very near of you when you shot the pigeon) almost every f*cking time. It took me like 2 days to shoot the pigeons and another 2 just to evading cops.

It`s a nightmare

I only need to do 25 more Stunt Jumps and 200 Pigeons for 100%. I already got the 10 vehicles I want (4 Unique and 6 EC) and proofed all 10 of them, too. Tomorrow, I am gonna finish the remaining 25 Stunt Jumps and I'll then be 97.50% Completion. Just gotta do those f*cking Pigeons but it'll take weeks, mainly because I only have time to game now on Saturday and Sunday and sometimes I can't even do that. But I am gonna try and rush through those stupid Pigeons so I never have to do 100% again in this game and then can move onto GTA V and just have fun modding my save with the Save Editor how I was doing before I stopped playing it in March. There is a new option to make AP vehicles in the Save Editor, so I want to check that out for sure.

I know R* were going for a heavy "urban jungle" atmosphere and were limited by their lack of knowledge of new hardware and engine, but I missed countryside and still miss it to this day. There was also no reason for scrapping things like car customization and some more over-the-top weapons and things like the parachute. IV went for a grittier approach, but that didn't necessarily meant more realistic one, it didn't suddenly turn into Mafia: TCoLH. There was no Black Project or Vertical Bird in IV, but otherwise, missions didn't really break the norm of what we've seen in every other GTA. Why limiting our free roam options, then? I also dislike the Bohan and early Algonquin chapters (generally, from Roman's Sorrow to Hostile Negotiation) as I feel they drag on for far too long and their only contribution for the story is introducing the McReary family for the latter parts of the game.

Speaking of proof vehicles, is there really any AP vehicle in IV or EFLC? I`m not such a fan of these things but in IV i could have really much more fun with those vehicles then in the old 3D era.

I was disapointed on APC Tank in TBOGT when Henrique get one for me, i tought it is at least BP/PP if not AP but when i went trough NOOSE roadblock they destroyed it instantly.

Episodes has none, but IV "does." I say it like this, because it's not what I am used to from 3D Era, where you collect them from missions and they are tough to get. IV has this "cheap" proofings and you can do it to ANY vehicle of your choice, including helicopters. All you gotta do is take Alex, Kiki, or Carmen on a date, fire a gun from the car to scare her and "fail" the date, and then after the cutscene, the car is now BP/DP/EP/FP, however cops can still magically shoot you even though it's BP and the DP means the car will never smoke and never catch fire, but it still shows dents and bangs from collisions, and you can still fly through the windshield. They are 100% EP, though, and about 90% FP. I say 90% cuz the rubber on the tires will burn away off the tires leaving you driving on the rims if there is a fire on the ground from something like an RPG or too many grenades thrown in the same location. Bullets don't harm the tires, though, whatsoever and they don't harm the car itself, either. It'll never smoke and catch fire...EVER.

And yeah, the NOOSE Tank (APC) sucks ass. I can only make it to 5 stars before it catches fire and blows up...It's weak, similar to the GTA V Rhino Tank, as well.

EDIT: Back on Topic, and I also remembered one other thing I f*cking hate in this game. When Niko gets tapped by a car, he'll fall like a slow ragdoll and take forever to finally get back up. It's just a real pain in the ass how a slight bump from a car will make him get disoriented and actually fall to the ground losing a centimeter of health...

Ok, thanx i`ll go for it and make my cheetah or infernus proof, but will it stay that way after save and reload?

If the cops still make you hurt through the windows than that sucks because you know how it looks like when you`re passing a roadblock on 5 or 6 stars..you`re wasted in few seconds with full health and armour.

Lethal Vaccine

LOL, there is no Cheetah in GTA IV/TLaD/TBoGT.

Yeah, when you park the vehicle in the parking spot, save the game, and reload, it's still proofed. It keeps the properties. The only way to remove those properties is using the proofed vehicle to take the girlfriend out on a date when it's already proofed.

I suggest using the Police Stockade (If you got it from "Tunnel of Death" like I did, it's the only time in the game you can get this vehicle) or the Enforcer. The Enforcer's windows are BP literally, except two small windows on the side, and the cops NEVER hit me and I can be on 6 stars just standing on a bridge dropping grenades and never get any health/armor down. Police Stockade/Enforcer is my go to vehicles for 6 star police chases after they are proofed.

What about that military chopper in TBOGT you got from Yusuf, that must be somehow proof because i`ve managed to stay in the air for like an hour or so on 6 stars, i blew up 32 anhiliators and still didn`t catch on fire even if they shot at me heavy. But then i gave up and went to sleep lol.

I mean banshee, i always mistake these twoo by name. Or that infernus you got from bernie.

Lethal Vaccine

Nah, the Golden Buzzard Attack Chopper isn't proofed at all. But I agree, you indeed can stay in the air for a while without blowing up. But I've been destroyed before in that thing...

That Orange Infernus from Bernie is the one I got. It's an EC Vehicle. One of my favorites.

O.T. - Another thing I hate about IV is the storage space. Not the AMOUNT, tbh, but how it's done. The roads are so congested that when you park your vehicles in the parking slots, there is always a possibility that some idiot NPC will ram the cars out of the parking spaces and you will lose them. I also hate how the cops are programmed to steal your personal vehicles at times and drive off in them trying to catch a suspect on foot. They normally do this with police vehicles, but I've seen them steal my EC Gold Comet and Unique Roman's Taxi, etc. This is actually my biggest beef with GTA IV. I wish I had actual garages to store the vehicles in, not on the road because they vanish at times...I always have a backup, thankfully.

Character customization

I'm not really big on that really but since LC is based on NYC the Fashion capital of the world there should have been more clothing options available would have been nice to wear a swingers cap.

- Bike Chases, Seriously why did they have to be scripted so you can kill the target after a certain point?

- Bike physics were also kind of annoying but thankfully they fixed it in EFLC.

- Lack of actual garages, Parking spaces were fine but it would have been nice if at least one of the safehouse had a garage. I hate when drivers hit my vehicles

Other than that not much else comes to mind. Everything I've mentioned was very minor and doesn't affect my experience. (ex. my first playthrough, bike chase missions took me countless attempts, now I can finish them in 1-3 attempts).

Yeah, all my comments that were on topic about what I disliked about GTA IV, I really had to think about. Not much comes to mind of things I disliked in IV. It's all around a good game and surely my favorite in the entire series. But because I am a proof/unique/EC vehicle collector, the 3D Era will always be the heart and what I enjoy the most.

Hmmm nice bike

200 f*cking pigeons for a Annihilator, which we can already easily get. It should have unlocked a Hunter.

Also, I still think the controls are kinda clunky, especially when shooting. GTA V did improve on this if you ask me. I also didn't like how you couldn't lose your wanted level even within the wanted circle. They'd just wander around going "Where the hell did he go?!" and eventually they'd find you. Although it did feel good when you could hide outside of the circle and see the cop cars and helicopters passing right by you.

They could have done more with Alderney. It would have been nice to their version of Atlantic City and the Phoenix would have been a nice car that fit in with the game.

Yeah I agree. Alderney could have had more to it, but I still liked it though. My favorite part of Alderney was Acter, that place was so rough, dangerous and as ghetto as f*ck.

I wished Broker was a bit bigger too, as that's my favorite LC borough.

-Lack of rewards for completing side missions. Achievements/Trophies are NOT!!! are worthy substitute to me.

-Flying rats. Couldn't we have had some old school packages like GTA III and VC?

-No vehicle customising. It really bothers me how this is teased with Brucie.

-Controls aren't exactly smooth. I didn't notice this as much in 2008, but with R*'s later games it's more evident going back to GTA IV. Niko moves like a robot in some ways.

Hmmm nice bike

I almost forgot, one more thing I disliked. It always kinda bugged me how Rockstar just decided not to do a recreation of Staten Island, which is still a pretty big part of New York City, albiet more residential. But it's got a lot of green space and big parks like Blood Root Valley and Latourette Park, it could have been something to satisfy the folks who wanted at least a bit of countryside because if they did it right, it probably would have felt like countryside.

I'm from Jersey and I like living here so of course I saw all the missed potential with Alderney but I still liked it a lot. It looks like a combination of Newark, Jersey City and the Italian neighborhoods you see in the Sopranos. I wish we could have had AC and the Jersey Shore and all that though.

I would liked to see the Lower East Side and the Bowery as well.

-there's no way to transfer episodic weapons and vehicles to IV (without mods)

-when you crash out of your car, you f*cking fly in the air and bounce on the road 10 times. TBOGT improved this though

-those friends hangouts... (f*ck off roman i don't want to play darts. i have a f*cking 6 star wanted level and the pigs are after me) EFLC improved this though

-the DLC version of TLAD and the disc version of TLAD can't play online together...

damn, it's actually kind of hard to say what i don't like about the game
