Since I'll never be at peace with the music with which Norway is associated, I'll just post a picture a friend took:

Look at that sh*t. Just. Damn.

You think there are no (illegal) immigrants in the Netherlands? Probally even worse than in Sweden.

Here they get a house, money from the goverment (while Dutch citizens can't get work or the money that actually is for them) help to learn the language and help to get a decent job or school....

Not to mention the Polish ones who earn about 1000 euro's per person, life in a house with 9 others which gives them a 10k per month to spend, mostly on weed, coke or beer.

When I was working in the harbour, tax agents mailed me because I was earning ''too much'' money and they would cut my mother on it.....

Doesn't make sense right? I earned near 8k a year because I worked on holidays and on days-off from school while she earned between 20/25k per year.

I wonder what's more?

None of which has anything to do with what we were actually discussing.

So can we go back on topic? Somehow (illegal) immigrants can do what ever they want in Europe thanks to Hitler who made it possible for them since that Versaille thing got new rules and sh*t in it.

Holy crap.

I'm not sure I really associate much music wise with Norway tbh. I need to think about that one. Edited by Andreaz1

@Andreaz1: I don't know the English word but in Dutch it's called 'Verdrag van Geneve'.

We were talking about (illegal) immigrants and somehow/one linked their ''activities'' to organized crime.

I'm guessing Marwin means something like this:

Yep, definitely what MTD said. Now, here's some other music from Norway:

Not music to which I would listen a lot, but an important part of our musical heritage nonetheless. It's been a while since I studied any folk music and to be honest I didn't pay attention so I can't say that much. It's a slått, and has a distinctive rhythmic pattern as is common with a slått, as they were often meant as dance music. Its name, "Fanitullen" means Satan's song, because allegedly Satan was great at playing the fiddle backwards, so it's definitely p metal, as the cool kids would say.

The fiddle is called Hardingfele in Norwegian, Hardanger Fiddle in English.

220px-FeleHel_(2).jpg

Constructed like any other fiddle, but heavily decorated with intricate patterns. Its distinctive tonal characteristic is its underlying strings, which are sympathetic strings, like on many other traditional instruments. This gives it a very particular timbre, but also limits its use in non-solo situations.

Despite it not being "my type" of music, I love the sound. My little sister plays it and there is just a certain mood to it, in my opinion. It never gets old just barely hearing the sound seep through the walls as she practices.

I know it's a Finnish band, but a lot of their stuff has heavy Scandinavian influence:

What a coincidence, the picture I posted at the top of the page is from Jotunheimen!

Have any of you tried Surstromming?

No, nor have I ever seen a can of the stuff at a midsummer celebration for as long as I can remember.
