Fastest way to farm free roam events now?

Now that the random free roam events have stopped being frequent. Is there any method other than just waiting to make them pop up?

i farmed those events during the 2 full weeks of high frequency, managed to go platinum on all of them!

Hop public lobbies, stay in each roughly 5-10 minutes, if nothing, switch. Eventually you will come across 1 with a bloke init who's been there almost a full game day (48 minutes.)

 

Otherwise, just drive around IO for 48 minutes robbin stores and chit and hope the smuggler plane shows up for ya.

Just wait them out. It makes the Smuggler Aircraft the new Special Crate circle.

I've seen half a lobby all jump in aircraft or fast road vehicles to try and be the one to shoot it down. For $30,000 each I don't blame them.

Saw a Special Crate on Sunday and an armored truck today. (The special crate never dropped, though. Rockstar still hasn't fixed that)
