Some of the jokes in the game must be lost on non-British players. I saw a takeaway earlier called 'Gyro Day'

On the subject of the films at the movies in the game, are they available in a higher quality anywhere?

 

In the game they look like a camcordered version of a VCD being played by a Playstation 1, which has then been heavily compressed to fit on a floppy disk for easy distribution.

Lol yeah. I was trying to capture a stunt a while back where every time I failed I ploughed straight into that shop. I'd never seen it before, but I'm now intimately familiar with Bobby Dazzler :D

Actually a lot of it seems to be Scottish humour to me, like The Whirlygig cinema, L.Arrs & L.Bows Co, the beer called "Jakies" or the obvious BAWSACK stock market lol. There's also the ice cream parlour called The Sundae Post and the announcement at the L-Train station that extension of the rails may take hundreds of years and cost billions of dollars! Anyone from Edinburgh would get that one. I remember laughing like a nutter at one of the horses names in the Inside Track Betting shops in San Andreas called Dundee Ned; I ALWAYS put money on that f*cker lol

 

There's definitely a LOT of UK humour in there too but some of the Scottish stuff makes me really laugh.

EDIT: Just remembered there's a boat at the LS docks called Dignity; a song title by a Scottish band about uhh, a guy naming his boat Dignity!

All GTA games have had a lot of links to Edinburgh (Scotland) due the Rockstar offices being based here, previous versions have had loads of references to Hearts/Hibs (teams from Edin), a park called Leaf Links (in Edin its called Leith Links), pretty sure the Forth Road Bridge was in one.

 

This version I have obv missed a lot - never spotted the Gyro Store! That cone on the head of the chicken is a cracker....but probably only Scots would 'get' that joke.

IKR! I even have an English friend who (even though I've explained the joke to her) still insists on calling it "Flee-ka" -_-
