[PS4]How to completely eliminate input lag / Increase reaction time

While trying to calibrate my TV, I came across a post on another forum site about the game /

pc modes on most new TVs. I was skeptical at first after reading that it reduces picture

quality, but after playing in pc mode for a day, there was not a chance in hell I was going

to switch back to my old display mode regardless of the quality difference. I never realized

how much delay I actually had when playing in my previous display mode. I tried to revert

back to it after changing to pc mode and I wasn't even able to time the easiest of turns

while driving around. I guess before the switch I had gotten used to the input lag from my

console to my display, but now the game reacts instantly to every button I press. Crashing

into those pesky NPC drivers that seem to turn right into you are thing of the past now that

they've become easily avoidable.

:colgate:

Changing your TV to the PC/Game mode is done by highlighting the input or source on your

display that your console is currently connected to and renaming it to PC mode or Game mode

(which ever your TV is capable of) by using the "tools" button or a similar button.

Personally I prefer PC mode and i've heard its better in terms of getting rid of input lag.

You may have to adjust the contrast / brightness settings to achieve the best possible

picture quality in the new display mode. Also be sure to turn the RGB output to full or

limited depending on what your display supports. To check if your display is capable of full

RGB, open the attached image in your browser on your console and check to see if you are

able to make out each one of the individual shade of black squares, 28 in total. If you are

not able to see all or close to all of them then set your console to limited. Note that one

is not better than the other, you will get the same result from setting your display +

console to full and full as someone that sets them to limited and limited. The important

thing is that your display and console RGB settings match other wise everything will be way

too dark or colors will look washed out. Also toggle the deep color setting on your console

to see which looks better. For most Samsung TVs, toggle the HDMI Black Level setting to

whichever is better. After adjusting sharpness / contrast / brightness you will be able to

see a lot better in game, especially in darker areas. I was annoyed at how often I had to

adjust my brightness when ever it was night time in GTA before switching to PC mode.

Switching your display to PC or Game mode basically disables all the extra processing in

your display which causea a lot of the input lag in other display modes. Some of this

processing does improve the picture quality from your display so you are pretty much

sacrificing quality for performance. PC / Game mode may not be your preferred

display setting. If I have left anything out or you have anything to add to improve

the pc or game mode settings please leave a comment. fullrgb_test.jpg

P.S. Sry for the lack of format. Its late and Im tired. :p

Update:

After being frustrated with the decrease in quality I found a way to have great quality with no input lag, for my samsung smart tv at least... All I had to do was switch the ps4 from the 1st hdmi port to the 2nd and rename the input on the tv settings to PC mode and BOOM! Full quality no lag.

Well, the port that my ps3 is connected to is named as gaming console, so I guess I'm fine. I really don't feel there is any lag, and it sure isn't too dark or bright. Maybe I'll see what other settings there are that I can mess with. Thanks for info.

Thanks OP, you gave me hope that I wasn't a complete douche when driving.

Then I checked and saw that I already had Game mode turned on.

Turnes out I am a complete douche when driving.

....gosh darn it.

this site is great for learning all that stuff. Makes such a difference having a calibrated tv. Most times you can help eliminate lag by switching all the enhancement options off if you don't like game mode (such as myself) .
