Curtis
Hey people. today i've decided to buy a ps2. it's a used one so it was really cheap. I bought it so i could experience what it felt like to play the 3D Universe on the PS2. i always played those games on the PC, and played the stories on PSP. The only GTAs i really played on playstations were the HD Ones. I have yet to buy the PS2 GTAs, any tips?
The Dedito Gae
Buy a memory card. Buy VCS and LCS but pass over SA on PS2, the game is poorly optimized, you can't even fly planes at low heights due them spawning out of nowhere.
slimeball supreme
I don't know. Buy some memory cards I guess. The PS2 is a distant memory for me. Have fun playing all those awesome games that came out for it you'll only be able to find on eBay and at garage sales!
Curtis
I did buy two memory cards. and also i DO have a place to buy the games. there's game stores all around the netherlands. pretty great if you ask me. meanwhile i'm trying out one of rockstar's other games, canis canem edit, more known as Bully. Lethal Vaccine
I have a Backward Compatible PS3, but I bought it in 2008. It CAN play GTA I, GTA II, GTA III, VC, SA, LCS, VCS, IV, TLaD, TBoGT, and V all with the Physical PS2 and PS3 Disc, no digital sh*t. However, because it's old and NOTHING last forever, 4 weeks ago I bought a brand new PS2 Slim from Amazon and a handful of Memory Cards and am keeping it in the box. I tried it out and everything works, so I am keeping it in perfect condition. I recommend playing the lot: III, VC, SA, LCS, and VCS... Mr. F is wrong. As I bought brand new PS2, Memory Cards 4 weeks ago and I bought LCS/VCS brand new off Amazon in April 2014 for my birthday, so yeah....You can find everything on the web. I find the PS2 and BC PS3 to be the best Consoles to ever exist. PS4 and Xbox One are nothing to me, pretty much. Without backward compatibility, Consoles aren't very good if you ask me. housedeep
pass over SA on PS2, the game is poorly optimized Not true. I played a PS2 copy of San Andreas that was perfect, no bugs or glitches whatsoever - the game worked as it should. you can't even fly planes at low heights due them spawning out of nowhere. Never experienced this. I have no issues flying helicopters/planes either. Maybe your copy or your PS2 was damaged? D9fred95
Trillest
Make sure you have some extra controllers on hand in case the one you're using somehow breaks.
Lethal Vaccine
I don't know what Midnight is saying either. I've been playing SA since 2004 and have Version 1, as well. It contains certain Glitches, which exist more or less on ALL SA Versions, even the newest ones like Mobile and Xbox360 Port. Planes and Helicopters are fine. Maybe he plays GTA IV too much
Curtis
i'll try and get the hang of console flying.
Lethal Vaccine
Analog stick pushed forward, holding X. R1 and R2 to turn left and right. It's piss easy to fly. Same buttons for VC, LCS, and VCS, too. In VCS Helicopters fly SO slow, so bad, it's like watching the paint peel off the walls. Boats are slow as f*ck, as well. Vic can SWIM and RUN FASTER than Boats drive... I know the 3D Era like the back of my palm due to all the playthroughs I've done. I much prefer them over the HD Era, tbh. TRex500
Buy SA and VC. These two will ever remain better than the HD gtas.
Big_Smiley
Ahhh...back in the day when gamestop carried copies of SA and other old gta's. I would recommend SA for the Ps2 but man was it was a little hard to controll. Gta 3 was even harder since the atuo-aim sucked ass. Learning to fly was a nightmare for me back in the day (IMO) But it's a grate game. Also gta's like VC , LCS , VCS. What ever gta you could find on Ebay or Amazon.com I remember a while ago i asked for a copy of SA at gamestop and the guy was like what? So it's best to search the web if your planning to play the 3D era games. Edited July 12, 2015 by GTA_The_Series Simply_Wasted
Bare
Definitely get SA so you can do the gang territory glitch. It was one of the main reasons I bought it on xbox 360 but the glitch doesn't work on there . One day I'll get a PS2 again and play all the old GTAs too. Lethal Vaccine
One day I'll get a PS2 and play all the old GTAs too. Don't wait too long I hope they never stop making PS2's. They already stopped making BC PS3's, so your only other option is a PS2 to play them all.

Lethal Vaccine
I got rid of my old phat PS2 since I bought the BC PS3 after I sold it. But since they stopped making BC PS3's, it's essential to have PS2. So I went ahead and re-bought one 4 weeks ago and don't regret it, even if it's just sitting in the box not being used. It'll come in handy one day when my BC PS3 bites the dust.
GamesBoy316
Nothing like playing the older GTA games on Playstation 2. Buy any GTA game available on the PS2, they're all awesome and unique in their own way. Edited July 12, 2015 by GamesBoy316

wiizardii
Obviously GTA SA, it is the most popular game ever in the PS2. I used to have so much fun playing SA back in the days on my old PS2.
SuperGTFan
Enjoy the 3D classics, mate. But don't let them corrupt your mind to the point you expects a SA II from the HD Era.
TheFlareEntercounter
Along with the 3D era GTAs, you should also try some othe PS2 classics such as (one of my favourites): Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, and the Splinter Cells that came out on PS2. GTA-Biker
I also played GTA 3,VC and SA on PC first, and then SA,LCS and VCS on PS2,and while at first it did feel a little weird to play SA with a controller instead of keyboard and mouse, you should get used to it in a few hours of playing. As for the differences between PC and console versions, the only differences that I noticed on PS2 version of SA was that vehicles lookes shinier (on PC they looked like they had more of a matte paintjobs) and some special tattoo parlor with unique tattoos in San Fierro was closed. Until recently I played GTA 5 on Xbox 360 and I´ll buy PS4 soon,so I wonder how will that feel, are the controls much different?
Lethal Vaccine
I don't think the PS2 Version is shiny at all, at least V1, however, the Xbox360 Port and Mobile Ports look like a plastic town and have that extreme shiny effect on everything. CJ looks plastic, literally. All Vehicles are blinding shiny, lol...I think PS2 and PC Versions are the best looking. However, I haven't seen the original Xbox Versions, yet. R* riuned SA for the Xbox 360 and mobile ports. I just coulden't stand looking at CJ's clothes it was literlly like if he went for a swim in baby oil. Same goes for the cars etc.. All hail to the Ps2 and PC versions. And again the Ps2 version were never shiny compared to the remasterd version. The orginall Xbox versions look almost the same as the Ps2 and PC ports. Execpt that R* improved the shadow effects , gave it a better draw distance , and added a higher resolution. Simply_Wasted
Osho
Should you find the time, it would be best to play 'The Warriors'. I used to play a lot along side GTA SA and spending up hours playing these games. Luddite
Curtis
oh, i almost forgot. while playing on the PC, a lot of things were easier for me. so i think i'll also experience the pain in the ass on Zero's missions in SA. edit: don't forget how hard it is using auto-aim by twiddling a stick. *cough* shooting ranges *cough* i spent hours on the PSP trying to finally complete the shooting range in VCS.
