The Homies Sharp / Vinyl Countdown / Bitch'n' Dog Food method

Yes, it's another thread about shirts, but read before condemning.

When the Homies Sharp, Vinyl Countdown, and Bitch'n' Dog Food shirts were added to the game for an event weekend it was a very simple process. All you had to do was log in on that given day. No crates. No daily objectives. Just log in.

This was the best method of obtaining the shirts. The special crates led to griefing and as has been shown in too many threads the Daily Objectives system just does not work. I think most people would enjoy the Daily Objectives method, but only if it worked.

R* made two mistakes. The first was not announcing the Daily Objectives method with enough lead time to save people from completing their objectives too early on Friday to successfully unlock the shirt. The second was not fixing the bug that prevented from daily objectives to updating on both characters.

I think the reason these threads get so much hate is that because GTA:O is unlike any previous GTA title and therefore has attracted a new playerbase that did not previously exist: the collector.

I don't grief. I don't PVP. I rarely interact with people outside my crew who I've been playing with for over a year. I do the same missions and heists over and over and over and over to accumulate GTA$ to buy the items I want to 'collect'. My friends alternate between games like Destiny and Elder Scrolls Online where they throw hundreds of real dollars on items ($30 for an ice horse on ESO anyone?) just to collect.

I come from an MMORPG background where collecting was a huge part of the game. To me, and as I post this I know I'm going to get a lot of heat, GTA:O is an MMO. There's microtransactions. Character customization. Heroic instances (heists). Clans (crews). Leveling up. Unlocks. So before you flame us 'shirt people' please remember this is not your parents GTA ... this is something new that's still finding its place in the world.

And until R* fixes it, I really think that they should go back to the original method of simply logging on.

I agree. Login method is the least problematic of all. After all, all you need to do is log in.

Of course as a precautionary measure we can use special crates and/or dailies and/or the featured playlist to unlock them if you can't log on that day.

It's stupid chasing to get a sh*tty shirt or doing some bullsh*t daily objectives. They need to only make hats in crate drops and ditch the daily hell idea.

Logging on for the shirts is the better option.

Crates weren't too bad for me as I normally just am in a lobby with friends and we take turns. But it isn't always foolproof as often someone would leave and someone would get left out.

Getting them by doing objectives would be fine if we could do objectives on both characters in one day. Or the shirts got unlocked on both characters when one does the dailies.

Logging on is much better. It is no real hassle to switch character to get them on both

Logging on seems to be harmless and would be fine for something as basic as a t-shirt. It's nice and easy and as people have logged on for the event shirt that day, most will likely stick around for a little while but there's still gotta be some kind of incentive to play the game - both Crates and Dailies are good for that :)

If I had to choose, I'd pick the Daily Objectives to the Crate Drops - at least it attempts to get people to participate in features the game offers that appear to be largely ignored.

On the other hand crate hunting can be exhilarating if there's a 'rush' for them... had some crazy moments of gameplay with this, though there are dominant strategies using Passive Mode and aircraft that kinda spoil it a lot of the time. Also the NPCs surrounding the crates are a royal pain in the ass.

I see where you're coming from, as a collector. Those crates tho... i friggin love um. The chase gets my blood pressure up. There is nothing like the prospect of receiving a tangible good that all are in competition for. I don't much care for any of the shirts except the radio station ones but I'll still collect them for the fun aspect and pride of ownership. Pride of ownership is half the reason the game has such good immersion.

i dont think thats a bug, thats just to prevent people for making a easy 50k everyday by doing the dailies with both characters. pretty much just like one could sell a street car one your main character and jump to the second to sell another car, "bypassing" the 48mins cooldown, they "fixed" that and now the cooldown apply to both characters, the daily list its pretty much the same.

This is what has been touched on and you are spot on with this comment.

I loved the crate drops, even though I missed far more than I collected; as has been said before, it's the thrill of the chase. I never used a jet or passive mode, even though I went up against people who did, and I still managed to get all the shirts eventually, and it gave me a real sense of satisfaction every time; something you just don't get from an instant freebie (or being "forced" to work through a list of things that just don't appeal to you; Daily Objectives are a real chore.). A Buzzard came in handy every once in a while, but most of the time I was in a Frogger or Police/Ambulance Maverick. As for NPC guards, Christ there's only 4 of them; are they really that hard to take out? I'd mash the helicopter into the crates, and then worry about them.

no no no! I disagree. I quite enjoy chasing crates and beating people to them only for them to try kill me whilst raging (depending on the player) Getting a special shirt for doing nothing is pointless in it being special and the daily objectives idea is useless as well. just leave the special items for crate drops

You know what I just thought would be nice? If once you got the crate the spoils would be automatically shared with others in the session. Others with good mental state preferably.

Again, the one that claims the crate gets all the stuff still. Just the collectables that the player collects are shared with others in that session.

Simply because many times a player gets a crate it's because others let them have it. I'm saying that as a high level player (because i transferred my PS3 account to PC) that sometimes feels no one bothers to get the crate if I'm close because my arsenal is bigger than theirs, yet when high level players stay far there seems to be a better fight for the loot. Same goes for when godmode bitches hog the crates, it would be nice if they had to share the loot... like put 30 hats of the same model that get spread out magically to the players.

I prefer the crates. They can add a huge rush of excitment to a dull room in a few minutes.

I think I'm done with these collectibles. Just did today's objectives, was told I got a shirt but the new one didn't unlock in any store.

First they take my beer hats, now this...

Even though I'd also like that method of just logging on once, I don't think they ever gonna do that again. Bitch'n'Dog Food/Vinyl Countdown/Homies Sharp were the first special items, that's why they had this simple method! They only did that again for the red Stocking Mask at Christmas, because... well, it was Christmas. So don't get your hopes up...

All these useless shirts may end up showing up for free just like the beer hats

This is a bad idea imo...players should have to work for the special items. I got a special crate the other week with my level 20 female character and there was plenty of high levels in the lobby. It dropped at the maze bank location and plenty of players gathered around that area. it's all about the tactics the player uses once they get there to secure it for themselves

As long as the special shirt unlock "correctly", any method is fine with me. This game is just too glitchy when it comes to special items. I did all 3 weekend daily's and yet the 2nd Le Biatch glitched, it's no where to be found in the inventory. Two out of three. Oh well, better luck next time for me I guess.
