they're hated because most of them have the worst case of e-peen syndrome. i do sh*tloads of killing in FR, and if someone manages to kill me, so what? i'll just chase them down and kill them back. but i don't get on the mic and start making sad attempts at sizing up my e-penis afterwards, with half-assed retorts like "HURDURRRR UR SO TRASH LERN SUM GUNGAME N00B" or "LOOK @ MY K/D AND LOOK @ URS! IM BETTER THAN U!!!" - at that point, you kinda just seem like an insecure piece of sh*t.

 

killing is part of the game, but it's NOT the end-all-be-all, this isn't CoD or Battlefield, but it's still a thing to do, don't get it twisted. griefers commonly have the mentality of a braindead CoD kid, where killing other players (commonly, the same player, over and over and over and over again) is the only way to judge one's "skill" in this game. not realizing that the person they're killing could probably f*ck them up in a race, or even a dogfight.

 

and no, just because a player killed you a couple times doesn't make them a griefer. just because they went around the session and killed numerous players a few times doesn't make them a griefer. they simply killed you and went on about their business, whether it be killing someone else, speeding down highways, or putting the controller down to go take a sh*t. a griefer will usually single out one player that they know has no chance against them, kill them constantly and then brag about having skills that they'd like to THINK they have, but actually don't. that or they'll constantly be in a jet (flying safehouse imo) because that means they can kill other players, but other players can't do sh*t back unless they also have a jet. they've also got "kill yourself" and "enable passive mode" on speed dial, JUST IN CASE things don't go their way.

See, someone who gets it. I very rarely engage is trash talk online...mainly because it seems like a bunch of mouthy kids who aren't even old enough to buy the game without a parent/guardian are the only ones using the in-game chat, or I'm in a party and don't hear anyone anyway...

 

But whenever I kill people in a jet, I ALWAYS get hatemail first. (via text) I've been known to mess with people when that happens though.

 

Griefing is akin to harassment. Killing someone in a game about crime, violence and mayhem is just par for the course.

Do you not want a place that is filled with likeminded players that will fight you all day and not complain. Your asking for something you already have. No, i dont want to play deathmatches.

I like free roam killing as do ALOT of other people. not because we wish death matches are better but because there are no limits in free roam.

I dont want to play it as a 'match' i want to do as i please in a lobby for as long as i want

In those lobbies no one can complain about being killed as that is the only point of them. If enough voices shouted the same thing then rockstar would have no choice but to listen.

Trolls and griefers aren't looking for like-minded players. They aren't looking for opponents of similar skill or disposition. They're looking for soft, easy targets. They won't find players like that in the environments that you're suggesting. Griefers get their rocks off from making other player's lives difficult. That's hard to do to a player with a similar mindset.

It's fun to play the victim card but for as long as GTA has been out, everyone has access to the Hydra, or, they are a high enough level to have the police turn a blind eye, and go grab a Lazer with 0 opposition from the God-Mode NPCs

 

The only excuse for getting killed over and over it stupidity. Yesterday a level 70+ was trying to kill me while I was in my Kuruma. (He initiated) Time and time again, he would do nothing but shoot at me with a rifle... a level 70... so, know what I did? I ran him down for an hour straight because a level 70 should not only know better, but using common sense, should have at least got the high ground. I'm not going to baby sit people who are too dumb for their own good.

I always see people say "oh hurr durr killing people in free roam is just uncreative durr hurr" So, I ask, what else is there to do? Kill a smuggler vehicle once every 5 hours? Why griefer are hated is surely self explanatory. They grief people which is a feeling that people don't like.

 

I find it worrying that online gaming is a platform in which griefing as becoming more widely accepted. A griefers behavior would be shunned and even ridiculed in any other area of life.

 

If I was to constantly talk and kick your chair at a cinema, would you think I was a dick. Or would you stick up for my freedom to do it as I have paid for a ticket. The fact that this is gaming we are talking about is irrelevant. Its still a real person on the other end of the game.

Just because you want to have a shootout all the time doesn´t mean everyone else wants it too,many people find it annoying.Someone just wants to cruise around in their vehicle,someone else just wants to make some money,so would it really be that hard not to attack them and instead have a shootout with another virtual soldier who actually wants a shootout.

 

 

Why would i curb my enjoyment for somebody else? nobody buys the game to play it how someone else wants to play it.

No idea why you keep bringing up Monopoly; of course it's not trolling. The goal of the game is to amass X amount of dollars by buying properties and profiting off them. No one is disputing that griefers can be dealt with (and will usually leave to find easier prey afterwards). But the OP asked why griefers are so hated. Because they're "griefers". It's in their title. It was a dumb question.

 

Griefers don't bother me in the slightest; they give me an excuse to kill other players. Gives me something to do. But I don't bother other people; especially lower level players or players that aren't interested in combat.

It's not technically illegal, Rockstar uses the information to put all the commonly reported players in their own server. They love griefers, because they don't do the work to make GTA money, instead they buy their ammo through shark cards.

Secondly, for the last f*cking time, killing people over and over is NOT griefing, yes I do know that fact. Killing newbies or people who don't want to fight back and repeatedly killing them "just 'cause i kan!!!" IS griefing and its not permitted in this game.
