I know San Andreas isn't really an island, but...

Where exactly would the rest of the state/country be if it weren't? This has been bugging me for a while, because the way the map is set up now:

300px-GTA_5_HQ_map.png

Logically, the areas east and northeast of the map should be land, and the rest of the country (including Las Venturas and whatever Nevada is called in GTALand), but theres lighthouses, named water bodies and water pumping stations on the eastern coast of San Andreas, which don't make sense if its meant to be land. In-game dialogue from Lester says that the area north of Paleto Bay is actually a river, which I can't wrap my head around either. None of the roads in the state lead anywhere that would suggest a continuation of the state, the major highway forms a perfect loop.

And what about the areas south of Los Santos? How does the rest of Southern San Andreas connect to the map? Is it the areas south of the Palomino Highlands, are they connected to parts unknown and San Diego down south?

I'm probably overthinking this, its just weird how it feels like an isolated island, and theres no evidence that other parts of the state exist.

Spaghetti Cat

It was broken off in an earthquake a few years back. That's what the movie 'San Andreas' is based off of.

Look, you need to forget ''logic'' for a second and understand that map is made as an island for gameplay reasons. That's why there is a lighthouse, and there are no roads that go ''outside'' of the main loop etc. It's done to ''complete'' the map.

If and when they make another GTA in San Andreas state, and decide to keep current design of the south SA from V, they will simply add land to the north and east and that will be it. But it wouldn't make sense to have the map look like it's meant to have something more, but it was cut off and only roads leading to nowhere remain. The map needed to look complete, and that's what it looks like, separate from the idea that it's actually just a small part of a huge landmass.

climate change :p

it used to be part of continental USA but now a rise in sea levels as submerged all the lower elevation land to the north, east, and south

or it's actually an island... not in the ocean... but a giant salt-based LAKE!

R* doesn't follow logic well. If they did Fido wouldn't be able to call the cops.

I like to believe the whole island thing is bullsh*t made up for gameplay reasons.

On the GTA IV map for example, I like to believe everything westwards is the actual USA, but the water expanse is just a river, like real New York.

The only theory I have for GTA V is that to the east and the north east of the map there is a river, and we can't actually see the land mass (which is basically removed for gameplay reasons.)

Idk where but usually maps of gta are referred to as off the coast of the mainland USA.

I think the most logical Layout of San Andreas comes from Gifbrah's render of the state.

GTA-San-Andreas-HD.jpg

With the Entire Eastern part of the map, and the southern part of the Las Venturas island connecting to the mainland USA. So essentially, San Andreas is a big peninsula.

I want that map to become a reality, that seriously looks amazing. Its big and expansive, and beautiful. That is how a desert should look like, not the few-blocks nonsense the Grand Senora is in the current map.

Either we live on mirrored planets, or you've got your directions backwards... east is right, west is left. California (aka San Andreas) is on the west coast of the USA, New York is on the East Coast. Edited by CanOdope

This is my version of that map. Original map by GIFBRAH, rendered by TheKillerDonuts and I did some customisation.

1. The light house http://gta.wikia.com/El_Gordo_Lighthouse

2. Bayside http://gta.wikia.com/Bayside

3. Oakland or what ever is called in gta world

4. Paleto county http://gta.wikia.com/Paleto_County

I changed the water of san fierro longer becouse of the light house and becouse its longer in real life. I made the river becouse of the pump station.

Sadly san diego is missin..

Real map of san francisco:

Seeing these renders makes the inner nerd within me foam at the mouth in excitement.

Nah nah nah Gta 6

If R* had the ability to do it, Los santos/Blaine County would be right next to San Fierro and Las Venturas, but because the game was originally on PS3/X360 they obviously couldn't implement them.

It would be cool to see San Fierro and Las Venturas ALL the way in the background, though depending how far it is, players will probably glitch there.

EDIT:

I f*ckING KNEW PALETO BAY WOULD BE PART OF A BIGGER MAP!

Global warming is pretty severe in the GTA universe as the polar ice caps have melted and flooded many parts of the world. People are just so used to it nobody talks about it. What not with a new threat of Global Warming being a controversy between Liberals and Conservatives much like our real life controversy with it. Some doubt it's real.

Actually if you look at the in-game map, the glaciers are still intact. I read a theory that the reason for the floods is due to how close the moon is to earth.

It was said by Rockstar during GTA IV that they are islands because the world would look unfinished if there was to be unreachable land in the distance. But in-universe, they are not islands.

As for SA, it is just the southern part of it. The state is a combination of Nevada and California. Northeast would be more country and desert toward LV, and SF would be northwest up the coast as in reality. South of LS would just be as it would be in reality.

Actually it wasn't confirmed if LV is still part of San Andreas so it might be based only on California.

I didn't say it was, but originally SA was a combo of those states, so just saying hypothetically if LV and SF are still in San Andreas in the HD universe, that is how it would be.

Tbh i liked what they did in Red dead redemption. There wasn't an island there and it was sctually connected to unreachable land giving the impression that it's part of the mainland.

Kinda off topic, but has anyone noticed that the US flags depicted in-game only have 18 stars?

In a game with no air transport.. yup it can work and it works well, but in GTA you have air and sea transport thus locking you in would make as much sense as hitting that invisible wall in Vice City did (if you were to go a bit away from the city in a boat/helicopter you'd hit an invisible wall and be turned around if my memorry serves me well).

I also like that Red Dead Idea. They should make it like that next gta but sacrifice the use of air vehicles. What average criminal knows how to pilot a aviation aircraft anyway lol
