Like the one for SA, what's your complete opinion on GTA IV. Love it, hate it?

I hope this thread lasts long enough to be the official ''love or hate IV'' thread as I wish of it to be.

The story is great. There was dark/serious moments, funny moments, unexpected moments, badass moments, all that stuff. Also, it was nice being able to make decisions, some were big, some were small.

I loved it ALOT.

Only would be 100% if they expanded the conflict between Niko and Dimitri, and his relationship with Karen and Kate.

Loved it from beginning to end. The whole story plays out like a TV series and coupled with the intersecting plot perspectives from EFLC it's not only the best GTA story IMO, but one of the best from any video game I've played. :)

It's not perfect, but Niko's journey from when he's fresh off the boat up until he's finally buried his past demons is truly inspirational.

Loved it from beginning to end. It was a very beautifully crafted piece of work they did. I wonder what happened when they started writing GTA V.

In my eyes, it was brilliant. Had a lot of fun with it, but it also had its very gritty/sad moments in twined. It was like the perfect balancing act.

It's a shame how the story in GTA V turned out. Too bad they focused on GTA Online more, because the story had potential. But like I said, the story in GTA IV is great, it's well written and paced.

I hated it the first time I played it in 2009, when I bought the complete edition I played through the main story again and loved it since.

Even though I love it, I'll never 100% it though. Too many damn pigeons

I remember them, I'd say it's the most annoying thing in order to get 100%. Even though I actually took the time to complete them, I would never do them again unless I have to.

Ehh..no i hated the pigeons. Aside from IV it was a really grate game. But in order to achieve 100% you had to find and shoot every pigeon in LC. There was just so many...Then to do the same thing in EFLC to get 100% completion It's like oh hell no. I don't have enough time and days to find all 100 pigeons. Forget you R* wasn't there an easier way to get 100% completion? Edited by GTA_The_Series

Misunderstood

It's the best GTA story ever. Niko's journey is very interesting. I know Rockstar did the whole rag to riches story through the whole 3D era but IV takes it to a new level. I really felt completely broke and worthless during the Hove Beach part of the story. Doing sh*tty jobs for Vlad at Mickey's bar. Working the cab business with Roman. Dealing with petty assholes like Darden. It all felt very low class and was a nice start to the game. I loved the Broker/Dukes part of the game specifically for that feeling. The way Niko changes Roman's whole life the moment he enters is great. We get introduced to a great cast of characters like Bruice, Little Jacob and Faustin. I like how Niko slowly rises up from killing Darden to killing Vlad which ends up leading him to Faustin/Dimitri and gets Roman shot up. Then it finishes up perfectly with Dimitri doing you know what.

IV's whole story is great but the Broker/Dukes part is the best part.

I was never a big fan of doing them, but I decided to bite the bullet so to speak and aimed for a 100% completion last year. Even though the reward is poor they do lead you to places you might not necessarily think of going. I was surprised just how much of Liberty City I saw actually that I never saw before by killing them.

Well I'm wondering who's voted for the "Meh. It's nothing super special" option. ;)

I'm indifferent. Don't hate it and don't love it either. Tbh it could've been shorter, some parts felt like a tedious drag.

But altleast it's not cheesy like V's plot.

I completely loved the story. It's one of the best stories in gaming together with MGS2, TLOU, and RDR. I see that the story is all about Rockstar's take on modern America and it deeply showed the reality of it through Niko's eyes. It's deeper than what it actually is. It is a message to how deeply America is in a sombre, and humorish take on it. I have never seen a story like it since MGS2 which conveyed the same message. Politics, corruption, greed. It is not just about the capitalistic freedom of America, but both showed it's negative characteristics.

Fixed.

Anyway though, you're right. Totally agree.

Love love.. big love. the things I wanna say have basically already been covered by the other posters.. So I'll just keep it short.. it rocks. the grittiness, the emotional attachment you feel for the characters, its all great. no matter how many times I play through the story I'll never get sick of Niko's journey through Liberty city.

Sums it up pretty well. IV has done an exceptional job to immerse and relate to the characters, and bring up emotions for the main characters and antagonists. It wasn't over-the-top, it was somewhat reasonably realistic without taking away from the GTA feel. The moral choices, were a nice addition too, considering that you were able to find out what happened to the ones you spared after a while.

i'm not a story guy so i have no opinion. i care about the other stuff like assasantions, taking care of pegerinos "problems" shootouts races etc. screw that dark story with an unhappy ending. its enough to make an emo want to cut himself.

It's difinitely the deepest and most meaningful story Rockstar has ever made.

GTA IV is one of the most underrated games of last decade. Along with the likes of MGS2
