Like showing actual gameplay ?

Sorry but it did not "flop" it got to the most sold Video Game of all time.

pped with the way R* advertised it.

And that in 3 days after release dude.

Lol this guy and his obsession with sales. You being schooled by Geralt bro ?

I guess COD/MW is the best games ever in the HD era then by your logic right ?

No and I allready told you this:

COD is a falling brand, its sales DECREASE with the release of a usual title.

Whereas the sales of a GTA game usualy increase(with the exception of IV this is why it was a letdown for R*)

R* gathers with the release of every new title new fans and people that buy their game.

The people who bought their last game are their "old" audience and the new young people are the ones R* needs to apeal to to integrate them aswell in the fanbase.

One big factor on it selling well is probably due to the fact it's set in San Andreas and people thought it would be SA 2.0 with a whole bunch added in...

Don't be irrational man. Games don't sell 50+ million copies across 5 platforms by its setting alone, or its hype, or whatever.

Some of you might not like V but it is not a flop by any definition. Anything popular is going to have it's detractors and V is no exception.

Nope, most people who bought GTA V never even played previous instalments of the series.

It was R*'s genies, "get it to be cool marketing".

Posters of the game were everywhere, some people even felt harrassed by them.

Its R*'s over the top marketing which brough V this succes, and of course combined with their superb reputation as Rockstar Games.

I'd safely say that's the reason why V sold so well. They thought it would be like SA (not exactly the same), but like it's own game/identity and 100 times improved.

It was too late by the found out it was not what they hoped for, as they'd bought it already.

Clearly sales are all that matters. Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time, so that must mean it's the greatest movie ever made /VFanBoyLogic

I never said that, but saying that a movie or a game is a flop...is with 36 million + sales AND OVERALL GOOD if not the best Metacritic Reviews just factualy wrong.

Like OG said pages back, and I will repeat as you people missed it. Idc if Rockstar sold a copy of V to every single person living and breathing on this earth (7+ billion). Selling a copy doesn't mean the game is good. Besides, there is a lot of dumb people in this world and some people just like to "collect" everything with GTA slapped onto it. They NEED to have every copy for every platform. They NEED their fix. I would buy one copy for one platform. Not 6 of the same game, lol...

Like someone just said above me, if V sold to new comers to the Series............Well, then there is the problem. Those people don't know dick about GTA.

Anyways, I can smell a lock from a mile away. This is surely gonna be put to rest soon enough.

Star Wars Episode 1 has way better graphics then the old Star Wars and made more money, it must be the greatest Star Wars film of them all.

I always wondered if all the successors like IV,EFLC, and V followed in the exact same direction as VC and SA, would people critcize the series for the repetitive rehash? Or feel proud at the rich open-worlds?

Repetitive rehash, undoubtedly.

If V was a repetitive rehash with the best stuff from previous GTAs like IV and SA combined, I'd have very much preferred that to what we finally got in V. Just being honest here.

When people say that V is a flop they usually mean that its a flop as a GTA game not a commercial flop (though I disagree).

This. GTA V - 5/10. A Video Game without the GTA slapped onto it? 8.5/10. As a Rockstar title with GTA slapped onto it, I expect better.

Big maps and open space and eye candy scenery doesn't cut it for me.

Something so simple to understand, yet some people in here find it so difficult to understand at the same time - namely those who are big V fans and keep quoting sales figures as the ultimate hallmark of V's success in a laughable bid to overshadow the fact that critically this game was a flop for a significant amount of GTA fans.

Like I keep saying, sales don't mean sh*t, except maybe for the developer/crew who made the product. What matters is how the actual product is. Just because Rockstar broke sales records with GTA V doesn't mean it's the greatest game of all time. You gotta remember about other games as well, such as The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid V, Fallout 4, Just Cause 3, and a few others.

Its difficult to understand because speaking of the word "flop" I usualy understand a product which didn't hit its target group and therefor did not sold.

However thanks for the explanation Lester-The-Molester.

Also I am not only quoting sales figures but also Metacritic which has nothing to do with sales, but ratings of Users AND of actual critics.

3 of them havent been released, and please dont get started with Last Of Us again...

Though I bet JC 3 will be awesome.

MGS V and Fallout...I dont know

The general opinion of forum users on a GTA-dedicated forum will offer a more accurate and intimate picture of V's reception, not some automated ratings system.

If I were a developer sales surely would matter a lot to me. The amount of people willing to pay their hard earned money for a game says how it is seen by the public. Many paid for an enhanced version of the same game. Internet forums in general are known for hating anything popular.

I am sure some of the reviews people have written were after playing the game for a week, maybe? I am finding something new to criticize and/or like in V to this day and some reviews were written before game's release or close to game's release years ago. Why would I listen to a review when the guy doing a review hasn't even played the game in depth yet?

Reviews are completely useless.

Geralt of Rivia

So millions of people who bought the games for CG and PC are either:

A) people who must have all GTA ever and bought on LG first

B) people who knew nothing about the game and expected something that any kind of research whatsoever would've told them otherwise.

That's what I'm getting from your post, Militia. And I don't understand. It really doesn't work that way.

A game that is not bundled with every console, ala Wii Sports, that releases 5 times, and continually sells and sells, is not a coincidence, or anything like that. It's indicative of a game people enjoy and are willing to buy.

You don't get to 52 million sales, #4 all time, with a game people don't enjoy, or a crappy game, or whatever other reason. You just don't.

Look at the top 10 games sold. Basically all beloved games. Classics. Games that have sold millions upon millions for a reason (except in the case of the Wii Sports. That reason is that it was always bundled with the console. Great game still though).

TL;DR: You don't have consistently good sales between 5 releases with a game people don't like. That's all there is to it.

Now, if the sales of V were 50 million on 360/PS3, and 2 million across the other 3, you'd have a point. But it's not like that. The XB1/PS4/PC versions have sold 17 million units in the, what, 8 months that it's been released for those platforms? 17 million units in 8 months. Lots of games don't even hit 17 million units in a lifetime.

Ha, if anyone thinks that what's being said here has any value, i feel sorry for him/her.

There's some people that portraits the feeling of playing V as being raped.

* You're not a games developer. So your point there is invalid and useless.

* You quote sales figures, yet AGAIN. Yaaaawwn.

* More than likely most people bought an enhanced version of V because - they waited for it to come out on PC, especially the modders, or NG consoles. The minority of the rest bought it because they believed it would be much more improved, which of course it was not, just nicer graphics and FPS.

I hope this doesn't immediately escalate into a drama fight between Official General, Michigan, Osho, Midnight Hitman, Gamesboy, John Smith, PulpFiction, and Geralt of Rivia. And after a few pages later Son of Liberty abruptly archives it.

I was semi-right all along...

I am not a developer but if I had any business I would rather have actual success than flop but have a bunch of internet folks talk about how superior my product is to those more successful than me.
