Ghostbusters (2016)

Of course! Brings back childhood memories. In fact, I think I still have one of the best episodes on VHS somewhere, the episode where Stay Puft fights a giant preying mantis. That was my Saturday morning cartoon for a long time.

Turns out the REAL ghostbusters (that name has never been more relevant) actually fought Cthulu in one of the cartoon episodes, guess i didn't imagined that.

EDIT: Realized i messed up the link in my last post (mobile lol), i meant this is the hilarious sh*t i wanted to post:

Apparently people who have seen the movie are not giving it much positivity.

I feel bad for the cast and Feig, as I am a big fan of Feig and the cast isn't bad. I don't feel bad that the movie is bad, but I feel bad that people are so happy that it's bad. That people did even want it to be good. That this movie would have to be a masterpiece to even get any recognition by those people.

And yes, this attitude did spring from the fact that it's an all female cast. People were rooting against it ever since that was announced. Which I think is gross. Regardless of the fact that the movie is not good for reasons other than the fact that it's a female cast, those people are assholes. Like I said though, only those people who were against this movie because of sex, and are feeling vindicated. Not the ones who don't like it for legitimate creative reasons. I'm probably going to be one of those.

I see what you're saying, but there's a flip side to that.

Feig has chosen to take the bait and respond to a small but loud minority, and has generalized any and all criticism against the film simply as misogynistic prejudice. Both sides are to blame here, because many of us, the majority, are not uninterested in the film because it's an all-female cast; we're uninterested because it truly looks like another subpar reboot.

So in a sense, real critics will feel robbed of their opinions simply because Feig has chosen to demonize all criticisms. That's not how win over audiences and critics. Don't accuse the accuser. He should have taken the high moral ground and stood firm. Now critics will be even more inclined to give this a bad review.

Here's a good example of it. If you don't like this movie, you're a "Trump Supporter".: http://twitchy.com/gregp-3534/2016/06/03/judd-apatow-blames-donald-trump-supporters-for-his-sucky-ghostbusters-reviews/

Im against this movie, because they took a good franchise and based on the previews turned it into a slap stick comedy, which it never was. its insulting

Whilst I'm inclined to agree with you. We're also basing this on a trailer. I've seen a bunch of comedy-dramas that were misrepresented in trailers as flat-out comedies.

I hear what you are saying but it's also to tell.

The game was actually quite good but I never finished it :(

If a trailer didn't sell the film to me I simply won't see it. I wasn't impressed by trailer one or two so I'll likely see it at some point... but not at the cinema. I don't have hope for this movie though as you can probably tell.

You should try and give the game another try, it's not that long if you put it on Easy difficulty.

Wow, that's quite harsh. I've seen plenty of bad trailers to good films. Not saying that's the case here, just saying, sticking by that rule for you could stop you from seeing some great films. I mean, the trailer might be bad but the film rated highly.

I'll give it another try, hopefully it's added to BC list on Xbox :D

I think most modern films aren't that great anyway, not trying to be super-hipster-esque or anything but yeah, haha. Studios just do not want to take risks with original stories anymore. It is too much of a "risk."

Most of the films these days try to find a formula or something to turn into a franchise and to then make loads and loads of sequels... like Transformers, like this Ghostbusters, comic book films, Star Wars e.t.c. That's why if you don't want to see a future version of something, don't pay for the current one to come out because they'll decide whether to continue it based on *cha ching*. That's why I didn't go to see the new Star Wars because I think the franchise is done with -- it ended with the prequel movies (that is one opinion that will piss a lot of people off with I'm sure).

Hollywood has always tried to do the above but now it's taken to a whole new level. Making tons of "Fast & Furious" films and "Transformers" films for example. They're basically the same thing.

So Bill was threatened to be sued if he didn't participate in the promotion of this movie. Shiiiiittt...

His face says it all. Corporationism at its finest, eh? Unless I'm wrong and he just is promoting it for the cash. f*ck knows to be honest. That facial expression at the end though...

They should have good Bootsy Collins and Zapp to so an funked up rendition of the Ghostbusters theme that's fun and playful. The song is essentially Funk track to begin with.

I'm thinking a mix of this..

And this

I thought that a female cast was an interesting idea, but that was before I saw who was actually cast.

Aww come on Murdoc that's not fair. There are some excellent actresses/comedians in this reboot. It's just that this is a pure nostalgic cash-grab by the studio that wants to ride a wave of female comedies. There's plenty to complain about this reboot, the cast isn't one of them.

Melissa Mccarthy is not that great, Tina Fey would have done better than her.

Add Amy Poehler as well. GOB's wife and deputy of Pawnee. Leslie Jones is alright. Melissa Mccarthy, though, completely not funny. Her one starring sitcom was Mike and Molly where the joke was pretty much all "hur dur we are fat, ain't it funny".

You're delusional.

Do you like modern SNL episodes?

The cast is one of the obvious things to complain about.

Awful "flavour-of-the-week" choices, actresses who's biggest laughs come from themselves laughing at their own jokes.

Look you could have Amy Shummer, Lena Dunham, Maria Bamford, and Sarah Silverman for all I care. That's not the point though. The actresses in this movie are fine either alone or together. It's just that it's a movie that was not necessary and no-one was asking for. It'd be like an all male version of Sex in the City. Sure you could do it, but why? Jumping over that issue and going right with the actresses is putting superficial concerns over legitimate ones.

Every time I see a trailer for this it looks more and more like crap. It's just another Hollywood regurgitation. And like Spaghetti Cat, this isn't an attack on the actresses. It could be an all new male cast and I'd still think it's going to be crap. The original movie was just fine -- no need to reboot other than for a cash grab. I'd be more OK if this was going to be a proper sequel, but that'll never happen, for obvious reasons.

My post was an "attack" on the actresses as comedians because they're awful, and not because they're women, they're just not funny.

This movie shouldn't have happened like this, but the cast is pretty fitting when you get right down to it.

Awful cast for an awful film.

Those actually seem like way better choices to me, not that I'm the biggest fan of all of them, they have more variety and I find them funnier in a general sense.

Does anyone else just want this film to be released to see if it will bomb or not?

The gender thing isn't that much of an issue -- it's just the concept behind this movie. The jokes fall flat, it's too forced and too over-the-top -- I think if they wanted to bring GB back it should have been having the three of them back (except Harold, R.I.P.) and pass the torch to the new Ghostbusters, male or female. Do you want to know what the biggest thing is that angers me? It's the fact that the original Ghostbusters don't exist anymore in this new reboot universe :(.

The special effects also look way more realistic back in the original film, the new movie is just cartoony and stuff, too much CGI.

I was just thinking about this when i heard about the cameos, Murray and Aykroid will appear but they won't be Venkman and Stantz, just some random guys. I get Feig reasons for a reboot (Ghost invasion wouldn't be as spectacular if it already happened) but these gals are replacing the original cast and that's bullsh*t, they should had done like Extreme Ghostbusters, where Egon trained a new team of ghostbusters, the real ghostbusters even appear in an episode and pass the torch.(Even if the cartoon didn't share the vibe of the original movie or series, it was still pretty dope in his own way)

I just hope that the new generation doesn't grow with the memories of this movie over the original.

It's a shame that the early reviews aren't great. I was hoping we'd get another taste of that Bridesmaids magic - I love the cast and Feig, but maybe action comedy isn't his bag. Can't quite blame it on improv, either, because that Seth Rogen/Jay Baruschel apocalypse movie turned out pretty well (and the effects looked better!)

I think the whole fan backlash deflated this thing before it even launched, and Feig probably rebuffed all criticism as such from an early point.

Well calling the fanbase and potential customers manchildren who think the film is destroying their childhood by default doesn't exactly help either :/. The film looks bad, plain and simple -- Feig and the cast just didn't want to take the criticism on board because nobody likes to be a failure.

Ernie Hudson said this film would have been a bad idea like 2 years ago (he even said Ghostbusters was dead when Harold died), I have a quote in mind for him being in the film:

Wow, I don't know how it is in countries outside the US, but the marketing for this film has been on an incredibly whorish level. For the past few weeks, I have not been able to not go one day without seeing some sort of commercial or secondary advertisement for this movie. The worst are those Progressive Car Insurance and Papa John's spin-offs. You turn on your PS4 and there's a whole f*cking section dedicated to the movie in the PS Store. Damn you, Sony, f*ck off!

I wonder how much they allocated to the marketing budget. It must be total damage control over at Sony. I guess they figured they were going to have to up the ante on advertising to mainstream folks, because we all know real Ghostbusters fans sure as hell aren't going to be buying any tickets.

Can't trust RT. It's the worst reviewing site on the internet. It says it pales in comparison to the original yet they gave it a 79%? Lol. Has to be paid or they're too afraid to give it a sh*t rating. Even the average rating is higher than BvS, that shows you how bad and unreliable they really are. Might even be pro-modern feminists as well.

I'm reading from men and women alike that it's actually quite a fun film and worth a watch without trying to be what the original was. Gonna have to try and see it this week.

Yeah - early word from review outlets I usually trust is 'it's good, funny - the third act plot is a bit perfunctory but not a deal-breaker - the cast are all solid (and the character dynamics interesting), with Kate McKinnon outright stealing the show, and some decently-self-aware moments about the film's place in regards to the original movies, but not in an obnoxious way'. Or something like that. ;)

Bit of a relief, for me - I was actually really looking forward to this when first announced, then had a sudden dread that the tone was going to be more like the execrable Pixels, gauging from the trailers (to the point where I was starting to think that the film got the green-light because some exec saw the 'crass slapstick with particle guns and '80s pop-culture nostalgia-mining', and thought 'hey - that's how we can revive Ghostbusters!' :barf: ).

Nope - again, from what I've read, the trailers (and the editing thereof) really do this film a disservice, and the gags/one-liners apparently land frequently and consistently. Sounds less like Pixels, and more like the one film that felt like a 'nearest thing to Ghostbusters' ever since - namely, Ivan Reitman's Evolution. That'll do me - enthusiasm's been restored for this one. :)
