Ghostbusters (2016)

Whilst I'm inclined to agree with you. We're also basing this on a trailer. I've seen a bunch of comedy-dramas that were misrepresented in trailers as flat-out comedies.

I hear what you are saying but it's also to tell.

The game was actually quite good but I never finished it :(

If a trailer didn't sell the film to me I simply won't see it. I wasn't impressed by trailer one or two so I'll likely see it at some point... but not at the cinema. I don't have hope for this movie though as you can probably tell.

You should try and give the game another try, it's not that long if you put it on Easy difficulty.

Wow, that's quite harsh. I've seen plenty of bad trailers to good films. Not saying that's the case here, just saying, sticking by that rule for you could stop you from seeing some great films. I mean, the trailer might be bad but the film rated highly.

I'll give it another try, hopefully it's added to BC list on Xbox :D

They should have good Bootsy Collins and Zapp to so an funked up rendition of the Ghostbusters theme that's fun and playful. The song is essentially Funk track to begin with.

I'm thinking a mix of this..

And this

Aww come on Murdoc that's not fair. There are some excellent actresses/comedians in this reboot. It's just that this is a pure nostalgic cash-grab by the studio that wants to ride a wave of female comedies. There's plenty to complain about this reboot, the cast isn't one of them.

Melissa Mccarthy is not that great, Tina Fey would have done better than her.

Add Amy Poehler as well. GOB's wife and deputy of Pawnee. Leslie Jones is alright. Melissa Mccarthy, though, completely not funny. Her one starring sitcom was Mike and Molly where the joke was pretty much all "hur dur we are fat, ain't it funny".

You're delusional.

Do you like modern SNL episodes?

The cast is one of the obvious things to complain about.

Awful "flavour-of-the-week" choices, actresses who's biggest laughs come from themselves laughing at their own jokes.

Look you could have Amy Shummer, Lena Dunham, Maria Bamford, and Sarah Silverman for all I care. That's not the point though. The actresses in this movie are fine either alone or together. It's just that it's a movie that was not necessary and no-one was asking for. It'd be like an all male version of Sex in the City. Sure you could do it, but why? Jumping over that issue and going right with the actresses is putting superficial concerns over legitimate ones.

Every time I see a trailer for this it looks more and more like crap. It's just another Hollywood regurgitation. And like Spaghetti Cat, this isn't an attack on the actresses. It could be an all new male cast and I'd still think it's going to be crap. The original movie was just fine -- no need to reboot other than for a cash grab. I'd be more OK if this was going to be a proper sequel, but that'll never happen, for obvious reasons.

My post was an "attack" on the actresses as comedians because they're awful, and not because they're women, they're just not funny.

This movie shouldn't have happened like this, but the cast is pretty fitting when you get right down to it.

Awful cast for an awful film.

Those actually seem like way better choices to me, not that I'm the biggest fan of all of them, they have more variety and I find them funnier in a general sense.

...I think if they wanted to bring GB back it should have been having the three of them back (except Harold, R.I.P.) and pass the torch to the new Ghostbusters, male or female. Do you want to know what the biggest thing is that angers me? It's the fact that the original Ghostbusters don't exist anymore in this new reboot universe :(...

I was just thinking about this when i heard about the cameos, Murray and Aykroid will appear but they won't be Venkman and Stantz, just some random guys. I get Feig reasons for a reboot (Ghost invasion wouldn't be as spectacular if it already happened) but these gals are replacing the original cast and that's bullsh*t, they should had done like Extreme Ghostbusters, where Egon trained a new team of ghostbusters, the real ghostbusters even appear in an episode and pass the torch.(Even if the cartoon didn't share the vibe of the original movie or series, it was still pretty dope in his own way)

I just hope that the new generation doesn't grow with the memories of this movie over the original.

It's a shame that the early reviews aren't great. I was hoping we'd get another taste of that Bridesmaids magic - I love the cast and Feig, but maybe action comedy isn't his bag. Can't quite blame it on improv, either, because that Seth Rogen/Jay Baruschel apocalypse movie turned out pretty well (and the effects looked better!)

I think the whole fan backlash deflated this thing before it even launched, and Feig probably rebuffed all criticism as such from an early point.

Wow, I don't know how it is in countries outside the US, but the marketing for this film has been on an incredibly whorish level. For the past few weeks, I have not been able to not go one day without seeing some sort of commercial or secondary advertisement for this movie. The worst are those Progressive Car Insurance and Papa John's spin-offs. You turn on your PS4 and there's a whole f*cking section dedicated to the movie in the PS Store. Damn you, Sony, f*ck off!

I wonder how much they allocated to the marketing budget. It must be total damage control over at Sony. I guess they figured they were going to have to up the ante on advertising to mainstream folks, because we all know real Ghostbusters fans sure as hell aren't going to be buying any tickets.

Can't trust RT. It's the worst reviewing site on the internet. It says it pales in comparison to the original yet they gave it a 79%? Lol. Has to be paid or they're too afraid to give it a sh*t rating. Even the average rating is higher than BvS, that shows you how bad and unreliable they really are. Might even be pro-modern feminists as well.

I'm reading from men and women alike that it's actually quite a fun film and worth a watch without trying to be what the original was. Gonna have to try and see it this week.

Yeah - early word from review outlets I usually trust is 'it's good, funny - the third act plot is a bit perfunctory but not a deal-breaker - the cast are all solid (and the character dynamics interesting), with Kate McKinnon outright stealing the show, and some decently-self-aware moments about the film's place in regards to the original movies, but not in an obnoxious way'. Or something like that. ;)

Bit of a relief, for me - I was actually really looking forward to this when first announced, then had a sudden dread that the tone was going to be more like the execrable Pixels, gauging from the trailers (to the point where I was starting to think that the film got the green-light because some exec saw the 'crass slapstick with particle guns and '80s pop-culture nostalgia-mining', and thought 'hey - that's how we can revive Ghostbusters!' :barf: ).

Nope - again, from what I've read, the trailers (and the editing thereof) really do this film a disservice, and the gags/one-liners apparently land frequently and consistently. Sounds less like Pixels, and more like the one film that felt like a 'nearest thing to Ghostbusters' ever since - namely, Ivan Reitman's Evolution. That'll do me - enthusiasm's been restored for this one. :)

What? Rotten Tomatoes aggregates based on the positive/negative reviews by critics in one category and from audience in another. While it's not flawless, RT didn't give that score and it's subject to change as the critics and audience reviews come in. Now it's at 75% based on this data:

Average Rating: 6.5/10
Reviews Counted: 128
Fresh: 96
Rotten: 32
It's 75% of reviews rated it favourable or on average 6.5. A film is certified Fresh if it scores 60% or over. We haven't seen the audience score yet. but I usually go with the critics on a film anyway. You have to look at it as 75% of critics rated it above 60%.
This system, although not infallible, is great. You can see the true meaning of cult classics where the critics rate a film rotten but audience rate it fresh. Or when you get a film where the critics rate it highly but the audience doesn't rate it that high at all, you can kind of deduce that the film might be technically brilliant or objectively good from a filmmaking perspective but the story might not be agreeable to audience who will rate something down because they seen something in the film they disagreed with like a rape (not judging the film objectively but subjectively).
Like my post earlier. You mention it pales compared to the original. That might be true (I haven't seen the new one). A film going up against the original isn't going to win over everyone because you are battling with peoples childhood memories and nostalgia and that will trump. To the next generation that don't have the bias and love for the original, you never know, this film might to the same for them as the original film did for you or I.
I accepted that this film isn't for me.. I'm not the intended audience. It's for the next generation to experience, Yeah they might make jokes to appease my generation who will take their kids etc.

Main trouble is that I've seen the original Ghostbusters... like a lot. Watched it so many times when I was a kid and when I was growing up, so, I am always going to compare the new one to that one; if you're a kid now and haven't seen the original you don't have any expectations as to what it should be like. It's a tough one. I remember I borrowed my cousin's "The Real Ghostbusters" kit when I was little. I felt like a f*cking boss when I went to the park and everyone was pretending to be ghosts and I was zapping them and I felt like a ghostbuster and sh*t -- some real fond memories I gotta say it.

If I just completely separated the original to the new one and pretended it didn't exist it would probably be a really fun movie, but I'm just going to have the old one in the back of my mind all the time.

And right there is the problem.

By rebooting the franchise and using a similar plot (hopefully it's not too identical) they're setting themselves up for disaster. People like you and I are going to always prefer the original story, with the original characters, because to us that's always going to be the best Ghostbusters. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There goal is to reintroduce it to a new generation, which they'll probably enjoy because they won't know any better. Now, they're also targeting our generation, because we're suckers. Even if we hate the idea of this new Ghostbusters, we're going to check it out anyway. They're essentially using us because it's good business.

Hollywood is too chicken sh*t to trust new ideas. Instead, they want to bang out stuff that has already worked in the past. Naive and boring.

44% on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience is weighing in. It's a dud, folks. Shows over. Time to go home.

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ghostbusters_2016/

Who i'm gonna go with it?

People who probably are not even bothering to see the movie and they are just spit hating on it or movie critics without a bias?

Tough choice.

Boogie did a nice objective review on it. I didn't care much for the spoilers because I don't intend on seeing it in theaters, so f*ck it.

The verdict is it's mediocre. I'd say that's more in tune with the audience on RT.
