How rockstar is (cleverly) scamming us

z type costs 10 times less in online though.

Exactly. If Rockstar were REALLY trying to "push shark cards", then I'm pretty sure the SP price of the Z Type is one thing that wouldn't have changed in GTAO.

If they were really pushing cash cards then every item in an update could only be purchased using shark card funds, like other games.

Also, can we take a moment from the flailing of confused limbs to point out that Rockstar called the damned things "Shark Cards."

I mean. Seriously you guys.

Shark. Known predator.

They could not have been more upfront with us.

Rockstar is a company of greed. Everywhere you look there are examples of it. A great example is the small bank in paleto bay in story mode paying a ton of money, BUT THE LARGEST BANK IN LOS SANTOS IN ONLINE PAYS 1,250,000 ON HARD?!?!?! I believe that heists are rockstars fools gold. They tempt you with promise of big pay and money but really they're just a load of crap. During heists 90% of the time you either fail or someone quits. so first off, rockstar is scamming you because their heists don't pay nearly enough. My second point on how they are scamming you is by inflating the prices from story mode to online. In story mode you can see that most prices are cheaper than online. They are hoping that by inflating their prices that you will buy a quick shark card to get cash and afford their outrageous prices (10k for a shirt? Cmon man!) a third way I believe they are scamming us is by making the jobs pay less. They knew rooftop rumble and coveted (remember those) were making us rich and I'll bet my a$$ that shark card sales were at an all time low so they figured hey if we make it hard as heck to earn cash they will have to buy money and if they glitch we can ban them! This really dissapoints me because I always thought rockstar was above this micro transaction bs but I was wrong. Anyway I felt this was necessary because as the ill gotten gains part 2 approaches we all need to be wary that the prices are gonna be beyond expensive because rockstar will just feed us some "special luxury item bs" do you feel the same way about rockstar?

...and welcome to a year ago. This is very old info, people figured this out a long time ago.

However I can appreciate the succinctness of your post and it nails it on the head on every point

Forgive us for not wanting to play for a full 8 hours non stop to buy almost a full car.

Then this game is not for you.

The online portion of the game is not meant to be instant-gratification. There's other games for that.

Then why do they sell shark cards?
Shark cards are optional you f*cking mook. They're not pointing a gun to your head to buy them, however, buying them, which are optional, helps Rockstar develop the next GTA game.

The reason I ask why R* sells shark cards is because if, as you said, "...The online portion of the game is not meant to be instant-gratification.", then selling shark cards objectively conflicts with the intent to delay gratification.

Another thing to look at Is Rockstar San Diego's Red Dead Redemption multiplayer. Look at how long it took to legitimately unlock the zebra donkey. I bet if they did a remastered version of that game, but included the option to spend $10 jump to the next Legend Rank, players would be complaining that rockstar was being greedy. That they purposefully made it hard to reach Legendary Rank 5 to "force" or now "scam" players into buying "Rank Cards" or maybe "Exp Cards." Even if they left the exp requirements for Legendary 5 the same as the PS3/360 release.

I'll just keep this short with bulletpoints, so you can comprehend this easily, OP.

- The Paleto heist money was towards buying a Cargobob, for ANOTHER job. Not free spendng. At the end, the three protags only got around 450K, which you can make easily within a couple of hours in GTAO.

- Stop doing heists with randies and maybe you'll stop dying and failing. I did Pacific 5 - 6 times over the past two days with an awesome crew and have made close to $2M and $30M overall since Heists came out. How, I say how in the high heavens could Heists possibly be a scam??

- People complained about not having anything to spend their money on in GTAIV, and now that they do in V, everyone's complaining about the prices?

- Actually work for your money and play the game, and Rockstar won't try and "force you to buy a shark card" (which they really aren't)

- You can get up to 30K on RR now if you don't rush it. Why should you be rewarded that kind of money for no effort at all?

No I don't feel the same way as you do about R* as I get on with it and make money the way it's supposed to be made. Stop expecting handouts. It amazes me how people still don't get that the IGG updates were mainly for wealthy players, not people that are still broke and complain about the prices like you do, OP.

I hate threads like this, ugh.

Another thing was overlooked about the Paleto Bank. The bank was holding all the money for the corrupt cops, so it had a larger than normal amount of cash in it's vault. It makes sense that they were holding more cash compared to what a legitimate bank would be keeping in it's vault.

That would be rather funny. I thought my generation was spoilt, but this latest gen omg they have no idea. I blown my daughter mind when I explained using a landline to call friends, the frustration of trying to find and play a song on an LP or my first memory of 'online' experience was on a 2400 modem that made awesome sounds which is now called dubstep.

This game is living proof of this gens need for wanting everything for nothing and no effort. Sad thing is Im young (not so relative to the average age on here I suspect).

Edit: oops just realised that whole post was like a scene of the old men from monty python. Not my intention at all.

Its just so frustrating

The argument is as solid as the biproduct of dysentery. The basic complaint from our obtuse and spoiled OP is that the stuff in GTAO is more expensive than in GTAV, and therefore Rockstar is scamming us because in SP you can earn more. He wants all the shinies right now and for no effort and it's NOT FAIR that he can't have them and R* owes him all the monies and things and he doesn't like waiting and he's a special and unique flower

That is not it at all, the main complaint from the op and the general point is not they want it all now, only the folks saying that everything is fine have put those words into their mouths and made that claim.

What the complaint is, us why the economy isn't more equitable, not that there IS a grind, but why is the grind THAT steep.

10k for a shirt, 100k for a license plate, etc. Why is the market THAT overpriced and its to serve the MT system. More over the "free" dlc if you look at it has been nothing more then more things to buy instead of actual content, again to serve the MT system with the only exceptions being heists and the creator. The first has to be highly regulated to prevent it from being a cash faucet and the latter doesn't make R* money, hence why it sits underutilized.

When you combine this with the scrappy server experience along with practically non existent QA. You can get the obvious feeling R* is operating online at a barest minimum of cost, tossing in more stuff and keeping the economy so damn unbalanced, it's practically begging you to buy shark cards.

And it's BS and unnecessary. There is a middle ground here that can satisfy everyone, but no people would rather divide into camps and hurl ad hominems at each other.

These people don't want to be handed things on a silver platter but they also don't want a steep grind, they want a balenced economy that is not as steep of a grind and dlc that actually adds things to the game.

Of course that is one of very few examples. Nearly everything is more expensive in Online.

Get a crew of trusted friends and you never are in need of cash.

Stay away of the everlasting freeroam deathmatch. Experiment with colours in story mode. Do not buy, upgrade and sell cars. Only buy cars you intend to keep.

It has been said again and again. People do not listen.

R* will scam you only if you let them.

I'm not being scammed. I bought the game for $60 and haven't spend a penny more.

Do contact missions. You can get $100k an hour at LEAST.

Yeah, I payed 60 euro's for this game, played it for 500/600 hours, made 50 million and bought everything I wanted. 600 hours of entertainment and counting for 60 euro's... that's not beeing scammed, it's quite the opposite.

I would say the only people being scammed are those that actually buy shark cards, because items are so over priced, the shark cards carry alot less financial power they should have, $99 for 8 million and still not enough to buy the gold jet. think about it, the gold jet takes about $150 of real money to buy, and it's not even all that special.

most games have collector's versions of expansions worth about 99 dollars and at least there they offer you alot of both in game and out of game schwag for your money.

Boring.

Love the moral minority types that come out. Like I said, for 20 bucks you get everything and don't have to play the hustle and bullsh*t game R* wants to force you down. That's not being a modders bitch, that's rewarding their creativity and if I'm going to pay I'm going to give it to a modder rather than a company that plays on people like you who are so blinded by what you consider cheating and fearful of the big bad wolf that its hopeless to even attempt to talk to you.

I'm sure R* REALLY likes you.

For the record, just you should know I've grinded and unlocked everything straight up. It's not about "give it to me now" - peasant thinking. It's about thwarting R* and their economic and microtransaction system. Does that make sense or do I need to do puppet show?

You want money? Go spend 20 bucks and get an account recovery from a modder with as much money as you want. Thumb your nose at R* and play the game your way. Don't be R*'s bitch.

So be someone else's bitch instead?

Not to mention risk getting caught and banned...your $20 going along with it. All because you wanted everything now, dammit.

Doctor Dollars

Heists are actually completely useless since you get more or less the same payout doing missions... Expecially if you are playing with randoms.

I host Pacific Standard and just tell people from the beginning that I'll give them 20% and they stay. I takes about an hour to an hour and a half depending on luck usually to do the whole thing and make $500,000 each time if I hold all the cash, if someone fails the mission just tell them it's okay and they wont leave from embarrassment. I've been doing this like 4 times a week since the game came out for pc and have 65 mil. (I had a few million before)

Rockstar is a company of greed.

Welcome to the wonderful world of capitalism. Now you just need to figure out that your moaning about a product that you've bought is pretty much pointless given that you've already fulfilled your part in the exchange and that's all Rockstar care about. They're a company that makes money for shareholders, not some kind of altruist cult.

I'm on the side of R* being scammers but this guy did hit on a point I've noticed. The online portion isn't for the fast gratification guys. No doubt. R* have chose that way for online. It's a pity but sure. Thing I noticed tho is SP is just as good a game with none of the gimme gimme gimme attitude of R* wanting a regular boost to their profits. I've solely played SP for the past week or so and Im getting my GTA fix but with the R* I used to know instead of the money grabbing online company in my eyes they have became.

the dlcs are not really free, they are being paid for by someone. But to not have to deal with the lop sided economy and the bullsh!t level of QA this game is given, I would be willing to pay a monthly sub.

I've spent €149.99 on the game in 2013 and another €54.99 back in April. That's a total of €204.98 I've spent on the game which is actually a lot of money for me. I don't feel scammed at all though. I paid for the game and I got the game. I like the game so I bought it again. Free Online, DLC's and updates are extras, and considering that almost every dev releases day one paid DLC nowadays we're actually lucky to get not one but 13 FREE DLC's so far.

I have the ability to pretend that Cash Cards don't exist. I've never bought a cash card and, honestly, I don't care if they are there. People can buy what they want with their money and it's apparently contributing towards the free DLC's so that's good. It's either grind or pay and if you want my opinion - grind. Takes more time but is more fun and far more rewarding unless you're lazy. If you feel scammed, that's your problem. Others don't feel scammed so you shouldn't make them feel so.

The final heist pays you 350k in 1 hour and a bit with all set ups lol go try make that elsewhere.

The van mission takes 5 mins max and you get 26k for it rooftop at 5 mins pays 13500.

IF you compare earning about 200k in the same time a heist that pays 350k.

I wish people would stop calling the DLCs free though, it's not like R* gives them to us out of the kindness of their hearts, they are paid for, by someone(IE Cash Card buyers), maybe not you personally, but they aren't truly free in the truest sense of the word.

Well there is one correct point in your post = "Rockstar is a Company"

I paid $59.99 plux tax for the game almost 2 years ago, and have not spent one cent since then,

the things i have noticed about the pricing of "In Game" items is some things are way under priced like Apartments and garages, and car repairs you can pull a car into a LSC shop that is damn near destroyed and for under $1000.00 (i have never seen the bill hit $900.00) you can get it repaired ...have you ever took a car to a Body Shop or to a mechanic to fix anything, hell $1000 bucks would not replace two head lamps and grill, hell tires for my 1999 chevy pickup cost me $750.00

Guns and ammo are a little pricy but i figure we are paying for the unregistered off the record stuff that Criminals do pay for in real life.....and have you ever priced a full automatic assault rifle so in the end they are not that costly

Some cars are over priced and some of the new aircraft is way over the top, but if you figured what the value of Gold really is then its a pretty good buy, some of the new clothing ....well to be honest i would pay the price they ask for it so i would NOT HAVE TO WEAR IT

Rockstar is a Company that has gave me a game to play for almost two years and has not asked me to pay for anything else, Yes they do sell Sharkcards, but the only thing the sharkcard does is give the person who buys it a quicker way to purchase ingame items......for the people who dont buy them, we can play the game take a little longer and have the same items also

i have not played any other game that gives all the players the DLC for free, and the ability to use the DLC by just playing the game (maybe Sharkcards should be renamed Short cut Cards)

other game companies charge you from 99cents to over 60 bucks or more to buy the dlc stuff they offer, and there is no way to earn it while playing

A lot of players seem to think that doing jobs of any kind on the game is real work, and that playing the game is only done in freemode.......everything we do in GTA5 ONLINE is playing the game
