uNi
Not sure if it was posted before, I just saw it today. Â Here's the new speed limits for the track: Â Â If I read it correctly, the limits even apply to actual races. WTF? slohbur
I hope it's temporary (it was implemented after a spectator was killed when a Nismo GT-R crashed), because Nürburgring is famous for it's lap time records. And a lot of car manufactures are waiting to beat 918's 6:57 lap time. LightningLord, Killerdude and QuackinAColdOne
Carlover325
Putting speed limits on a race track makes no sense. Just make everybody who enters, including drivers and spectators, sign a liability release. Killerdude
So, Nurburg is dead now? Â You fail at being a race track when there are speed limits. HeavyDuke, Carlover325 and LightningLord
LightningLord
Speed limits on a race track. Wow. Yes, it's tragic news to hear that someone had to leave this world in such a way and I get that they want to have safety on the track, but please. This is kinda silly. The long straight having such a low speed limit sucks and the hairpin afterwards is just dumb. Do you really need to be reminded to slow down at a hairpin turn? It's common sense to take hairpin turns slowly. Edited July 10, 2015 by LightningLord QuackinAColdOne

unbid
Putting speed limit on a race track is one of the most pointless thing someone has ever done. People come to racetrack because they can f*ck the speed limit into its ass and floor it without afraid for getting any tickets. Â At least James May is a bit happy, because that means less car with "Nurburgring" version on its trim. Niko Montana

TheFlareEntercounter
Do the pre-speed limit lap records still apply to the track? It would be really stupid if they did. El Dildo
I'm going to look at this from a different view since the "aw shucks that's gay" angle has been covered... Â isn't this inevitable? what did they do with race tracks that were built prior to the 1940's? did they institute speed limits or did they eventually just tear up and overhaul the track itself? cars only get faster. they're only going to get faster still. how do you 'future proof' the Nurburgring? at some point wouldn't the course be outclassed by the vehicles? I'm just curious.
SouthLand
The Nurburgring became a Highway rather than a circuit since a few years back. Just look how many traffic there is of cars trying to overtake vans, other slower vehicles...

TheOneLibertonian
This is absurd. Great job guys, great way to ruin such a legendary track. Hell, even F1 is not going to race there anymore. (Well, techically they don't since 1976, but they do still race at the GP track.) Such a shame. Good thing Bernie didn't accept the deal, these new owners are such assholes doing business. No more record laps, even races themselves are limited by these new regulations. Â Remember the good ol' times of Group C, and Porsche beating track records back then, that won't bloody happen now. Adrenalist
The Nürburgring has seen a circus of ownerships. The latest owner is a self-made Russian billionaire. Nürburgring is in dire need of a massive overhaul. Unfortunately, every owner realizes this after purchase and then scrambles to do what every other investor tried to do before him; make money.  When that spectator died, I guarantee you, the latest owner did what he felt would keep the 'Ring making money. By not doing construction and imposing a speed limit. Obviously, that's not going to work.  Also, it's important to note that the Russian outbid Bernie Ecclestone on the Nürburgring purchase. Bernie Ecclestone is in charge of F1, and in a passive aggressive move, is keeping F1 from racing Nürburgring for the next few years. This, naturally, hurts the new owner tremendously. So the spectator death is just icing on the cake for the bad financial ride that the Russian is getting.  So, he's either going to be stubborn and run for the long term, or dump it and get as much liquid as he can like every other previous owner. Given that he's started construction, my guess is he's going to cross his fingers and hope for a profitable long-term ride....
sivispacem
F1 hasn't consistently been at the 'Ring for years (since, what, 1985), and for good reason. Hockenheim is better suited to F1 in all honesty. The only couple of occasions they've used the Ring GP circuit in all that time have been when Hockenheim has been unavailable. Zyo
I never particularly liked Hockenheim. Always prefered the Nurburgring GP, which really isn't that much to do with the Nordschleife but I guess its where the discussion has wandered to... The GP course always seemed to be a better track, but formula one is a different animal these days.
