Driving cars you dont know/like

This has always been an issue of mine in the GTA games.

I tend to get used to driving a handful of cars. In GTA IV you cant mod cars do you pick out a few stock cars and get used to how they handle. How they turn corners, there stopping power. Even how they manage road blocks that you may need to punch through.

But GTA, for some reason, always manages to throw you into cars and force you to drive them. Cars you may know nothing about or know enough about and you dont like driving them.

Take the mission father/son. You take Amanda's car. Im not sure why we take ehr car. There are other options. Michaels car was parked there and Franklings car as well, if you drove over as Frank you could have chosen what car to drive over. But for some GTA reason, we take her car. Un modded. And then we use that car to chase a freaken boat, shoot people on the boat, put people on the boat and get people off the boat.

Now, im not saying i hate her car. But there are much better options out there for that kind of mission. And that are easily available. Also, using a car that i dont know how it handles into that kind of mission is just bad planning.

GTA, stop forcing us to drive cars we dont know or that we dont like. Its grand theft auto, let us chose our own cars.

It's not like the whole game makes you use a certain car, it's a few missions. Choosing your own car works in a mission where you've gotta drive somewhere, but choosing a van for the mission 'I fought the law' would be stupid, but people will do that and continuously complain that vans aren't fast enough, in missions they should be able to best 2 super cars. Also, sometimes michaels car doesn't spawn during that mission.

We're at the point where anything, tiny things, like the font on the pause menu, can be complained about as if it's a crime against games. So if anyone wants to start a 'why don't dogs drag their arses along the floor, it's so unrealistic, rockstar failing again" topic, then now is the time! Good luck.

Come on man, really? It is designed to add a feeling or difficulty or even fit with the story.

It wouldn't make any sense to use a better car than Amanda's as it would be illogical that a super car couldn't keep up to a truck hauling a damn yacht.

I guess you take her car in that mission because it´s a convertible,Frank couldn´t jump on a boat from Tailgater or Buffalo. For the same reason you drive Feltzer in End Of The Line in GTA SA,so Sweet could jump in your car from the firetruck,or you ride PCJ in the mission where CJ and Cesar highjack a big rig for Toreno,so that Cesar could jump on the truck. You have to drive a certain vehicle that´s suitable for the mission.

I don't know if this was done on propose or not but if it was, WHY THE f*ck DO SO MANY PEOPLE CALL HIM FRANKLING!? It's not even a real name so it's an extra brand of trolling or a super extra brand of stupidity. -_-

If this Frankling wasn´t on purpose, it would be like 0,5/10 Nicos or below...

I didn't like driving Trevor's Bodhi, such a pain that a big pick-up like that don't even swing on corners, almost driving as Crash Kart games.

I'll just say that in my opinion, having the verity of cars makes the game a bit more interesting. I hate getting used to curtain cars. And I've always been a fan of the regular, non super/sport cars.

If you guys want to drive a good all rounder Vehicle, drive the Police Vehicles, and Taxi in each respective Game. :)

Seriously? every car in GTA handles pretty much the same way for the most part. Only a handful of cars are "hard" to drive". The only difference is the speed really.

Go play project cars and get back to me.

edit: and I love evading cops in those sh*tty cars you find in south central or sandy shores. It makes it so much more challenging and rewarding.

What is this? I always like to drive different character's cars. Remember Dave Norton's sexy ass Oracle? I never complained about being forced to drive that 3 times. That sh*t convinced me that I needed my own Oracle.

I agree that nothing should be forced upon the players whatsoever otherwise its not an open world, at all. V story missions are soo scripted for a "sandbox tag"; it kills the fact that its an open world which "offers players the option to explore".

I don't mind if 5 out of XX missions or so, they make it easy for you by picking a car to drive in the mission as long as they leave me on my own to deal the rest of the entire mission thereafter. It means, if I want to change a car mid-way and just pick something else or jack a random fast car and then proceed anyway I wish. That's how I played 3D GTA's even if some of the missions forced you to follow certain things from the start.

Basically, as you rightly pointed out OP ( which fangirls wont admit no matter how much you argue ) is, bad planning, and In my opinion, also worse mission designing that makes the entire approach to many missions in V completely scripted and linear. It seems like the developers don't respect players freedom, at all.

Unfortunately, the requirement to carer stupid kids and dumb casuals has watered down many gameplay aspects with no thinking capacity required.

um......sure, but in the example given (and a few other examples I'm sure) by the OP, using Amanda's car makes sense for how the mission plays out, and Micheal probably thought of the plan prior to getting in the car.

Slightly off-topic, but are you suggesting that your precious 3D era games have no scripted missions at all? Because I'm fairly sure there are just as many in SA, III or the best of the lot, Vice City. Scripting has been a feature of all GTA's, and there is far more freedom in many of V's missions than I can remember in parts of III or Vice City. I'm sure SA is the same, never played it but I watched a walkthrough a while back.

OK, different example. The torture mission, when you have to drive around agent Uses You. Now, this mission isint car dependent. But why do you have to drive his? Coudent take yours? Theres only 2 of you. But again for reasons ubnknown. you are thrown into a car you might not have driven that you dont know how it handles because...reasons!

Another point behind this. How many times in the game do you drive somewhere just to drive something else? Your car gets left behind for zero reason. Whats the point of having our car if it gets left behind half the missions? You can buy your 4 car garage very earlie on if you can get the cash together, before the jewel heist, and you can start storing and modding cars. But, once again whats the point if they just get left behind?

Are you referring to Dave's Oracle? I fail to see why people take issue with being told to drive a certain car? It's not like the handling is majorly different between cars of similar class (sedan, etc). I find it stranger that in the GTA universe everybody letsyou drive their car, instead of driving it themselves...

Also, that. Like when you go scout the docks for the merry weather heist. Im driving the container mover...why? Wasent floyd trained? I feel like i get forced to drive things for the sake of me not being a passenger.

And my point is. I mod cars i save cars to drive MY cars. Not drive them leave them left behind and drive someone elses.
