What's better, GTA IV or GTA:SA?

Recommended Posts

This topic used to be HOT back during IV release and was the battleground in a struggle to secure the place of the best GTA in the series with countless fans on both sides serving their fanboyism.

Usually, SA wins as a complete entertainer with qualities that would satisfy every kind of gamer with superior freedom, amazing map, and fun content.

IV wins for the engaging story, realistic gameplay, atmosphere, and overall for being different from the rest of the crowd.

Basically, both games can't be compared as they are a LOT different with very few similarities in them, and that actually works in favor of both games.

Unlike GTA V which kind of worked as a peace treaty between both sides of the fans in ending the years long GTA War with a clear, unanimous decision to consider GTA V as; the most disappointing, the biggest failure, and worst single player title in the series, so far.

Isn't it amazing how GTA IV and SA fans have been brought together (mostly), by our mutual disappointment with GTA V? 7 years ago I didn't think that was possible if I'm being honest. :p

I guess GTA V was the Straw that Broke the Camels Back, and provided the mutual kinship between SA, and IV?

SA and GTA IV both being single player focussed games helps a lot too IMO.

Too true there, Mate. They were more focused towards providing a great Single Player Experience. :)

San Andreas will ever remain R*'s best effort. They really went all out, packing in a ton of content to make it a big bundle of FUN. The top notch voice acting and the attention to NPC interaction amazes even after 10 years. After seeing the big flop that V turned out to be, I doubt that R* will ever be able to top SA.

Really? More people seems to be calling RDR as Rockstar's best effort. (Even tho I never played it)

I think The warriors is their best attempt along side GTA SA.

SA deserves its place as some of R*s finest work, but I still consider GTA IV and RDR as their very best.

IMO R* really shine with games like GTA IV and RDR that are more down to earth and authentic in their own special ways.

I personally prefer IV. But there are some things in SA I prefer, like player customisation, stats, vehicle customisation, etc. but IV has a better story, better gameplay and a better protagonist IMO. So overall winner is IV.

Neither have I. I only viewed things on Youtube and tbh, I never got into what I viewed. Whereas take CTW for instance, I watched about 15 Story Missions on Youtube and immediately bought it within a week or after doing that.

Anyways the way I see is as SA is the King and IV is the Queen. Both are of the highest power, but the male (King) still dominates all.

I think the next thing I am gonna look into is "Just Cause." I've watched the first 3 Missions on Youtube as well as the first Special Vehicle being obtained the game has to offer (BP/DP/EC Blue MV with Mounted Gun) and everything looked quite cool. Similar to GTA, yet, very different at the same time. So...

Let me guess. There's no Special/Proof Horse Collecting in RDR? :p

Well, like I just said, I've watched a handful of the Story and didn't find it all that great, tbh. I got really bored, which is funny cuz RDR is technologically advanced over CTW, but I still like CTW even more than RDR of what I saw. V doesn't have any of that stuff, either, but I honestly rather play V than RDR.

But yeah, to stay on topic, IV is King, SA is Queen. :p

There's nothing more intimidating than a GTA IV fanboy who has the power to rewrite someone's post.:p

It's still true though. GTA IV is the king and SA is the queen. I'm not sure what GTA V is. Probably one of the peasants begging for a loaf of bread.;)

For me, IV is King, VCS is Queen, SA is Prince, LCS is Princess, and way down the List, V is the Village Leper. ;)

I am too lazy to re-edit it, lol...

For some reason I am into V at the current time. Been playing for 3 days again. Granted, I took 14 months off, though. That's probably why I like it. I noticed after a wave of playing V and getting into it, when it becomes boring, I am forced to take at LEAST 3-6 months off to have fun again. I can't play it constantly or it becomes so dull.

I guess GTA V was the Straw that Broke the Camels Back, and provided the mutual kinship between SA, and IV?

Funny thing is it was what it tried to do, although in a completly different way.

Well Grand Theft Auto San Andreas almost turned into a classic for me. I can't say IV is better than it even when i love IV the most of all in the series.

I think San Andreas deserves to be called best of III era, while IV deserves to be called best of modern HD era.

We shouldn't compare two games from different gaming areas, calling one better when booth was great for their time and place.

Very hard to decide, IV has the realistic and gritty storyline, 7 years later, the graphics still look great, while SA has the atmosphere, variety and overall gameplay.

Both games are in my top two GTAs and I've put many hours of gameplay because of their replayability.

Rockstar put a lot of work on both games and they deserve to be entitled as classics for years to come.

I don't think posting this in the IV section was a good idea. It should be in the series chat, because obviously more people will say IV is better because its in the IV section.

Anyways in my opinion, they are both equally as good. GTASA will be remembered as the biggest GTA to date, the most action packed, and one of the best games in the sixth generation of gaming, and the best PS2 game of all time. IV will be remembered as the GTA with the best storyline of all time, best protagonist of all time, most detailed city, theme, vehicles, and side characters. They are both great in their own terms, but SA cant beat IV as much as IV can't beat SA.

Just my opinion.

Another thing to mention; alot of the hate that went around IV was the time it was released, SA was still being solidified as a GTA game, and IV lacked alot of content that GTASA had such as expanded character customization, countryside, bigger map, multiple cities, etc - which is why people disliked it. But I think IV makes up with all of that with its amazing story.

I don't understand why people say IV was too restrictive of what they can do in game. You have to remember San Andreas was fairly restrictive too with bridges blocked off at the very start of the game until the Las Venturas portion and even flying planes into locked areas would get migs after you. Then with GTA V they caved to the people who whinged about bridges being blocked and they opened up the whole map. It kind of destroyed what we had come to know about previous gtas and killed the whole mystery of discovering new areas as they open up.

IV, because of the realism and having not only the best story of the franchise, but one of the best stories of any form of media ever written. GTA III, VC and SA are all still 10/10 games as well, but IV is 11/10.

IV. CJ is overrated and I prefer HD universe

I prefer the HD Universe as well but the wide variety of map and vehicles is amazing.

The map was good, I wasn't really keen on the vehicles due to the game mechanics and the way they looked due to the sh*t graphics. Overall GTA IV wins. The characters and the missions plus the modernism does it for me
