So failing a mission is a big no, unless a special vehicle has been obtained? For example it's okay to fail a mission if you get a BP/FP Trashmaster with Bomb?

Yes, failing missions is only allowed for obtaining Special Vehicles. So if you want to get the BP/FP Trashmaster with Bomb then yes, you're allowed to fail the mission assuming you obtain it. Edited by GTAKid667

(Not really GTA III related, more for SA), but what about vehicles which require no failure but are much easier with one?

 

The FP/EP RC Baron is very easy with a failure, but with passing it can take hours/days.

Yes, we'd allow a failure in that case if it is part of the method of obtaining the Special Vehicle, even if there's another method that could be done without one.

Chain Game Announcement!

You've searched for the Hidden Packages time and time again but now it's time to put your finding skills to another challenge!

The next round of the Grand Theft Auto III Chain Game will be a Generated Vehicles Round. It has been a while since there has been one of these if we exclude the 5 Commerorative Vehicles that were placed in Round 50 to celebrate the Chain Game's Milestone, so I understand that several of you may not have been around before and may not know what one of these is so I'll take the opportunity to go through all the important information you need to know.

A Generated Vehicle Round is a round of the Chain Game where there will be hidden 'Generated Vehicles' that I have spawned in various locations across Liberty City, more specifically in locations that they would not usually spawn. Included in these may be vehicles that are required for Import/Export but may be rarer spawns or do not usually appear on the island they are spawned on in the round, vehicles that may be of use in specific missions, and vehicles that have just been included for fun!

The Generated Vehicles will not be revealed to any player when the round begins and instead we'll have a game called 'Vehicle Hunt'. This is where you get to put your finding skills to work and try and find all of the vehicles spawned across the map! We'll be keeping a checklist in the opening post and once a vehicle is correctly identified, it will be revealed for all players to see.

How do I participate?
Well, that's easy! You can hunt for vehicles during your Chain Game Turn and if you discover any across the map, then make a note of the vehicle and it's location and write your findings in your turn post after you've edited the post once the turn is complete. It's important to note that Spoiler Tags must be used to conceal your findings in the edited post! You may link to images or videos within the Spoiler Tag in addition to noting the vehicle you have found. You may find this revised Posting Format of use:

The example vehicles used above are regular parked vehicles in GTA III, and not any of the Generated Vehicles we're using in this Save File.

What kind of vehicles am I looking for?
The names of the vehicles that have been placed will not be revealed, neither will the locations, however you will be able to see in the Starter Save Post how many vehicles there are spawned in the game and how many of these are cars, boats and planes. You will also be able to see how many cars are in Portland, how many are in Staunton Island and how many are in Shoreside Vale.

In addition to the cars, boats and planes spawned across Liberty City, there will also be Personal Vehicles for the Chain Game Staff. @MrMateczko, @TubewayArmy and I have each chosen a car and secret location somewhere in Liberty City for you to find in addition to the other Generated Vehicles. Unlike the other vehicles, these will be alarmed and so you will be able to know if you find it that it belongs to one of us.

What happens if I correctly identify a vehicle?
If you correctly identify a Generated Vehicle, the location of that vehicle will be revealed in the Vehicle Hunt Checklist. In addition to this you will also win a :cookie:!

Every vehicle that you correctly identify will be worth one :cookie:! For Personal Vehicles, if you can correctly identify the owner you will earn an Extra :cookie:! Some vehicles may also only spawn in a single color, and if you can identify that they only spawn in that color then you can earn another Extra :cookie:!

We will keep a 'Cookie List' in the Vehicle Hunt Checklist so we can see who manages to get the most cookies at the end!

Do I have to participate in Vehicle Hunt?
The Vehicle Hunt minigame is a completely optional addition to the Chain Game for this round. You are not expected to participate in it if you do not want to, and not all vehicles have to be found before the end of the round. It's just meant to be a bit of extra fun, and I hope that several of you will give finding these vehicles a go!

Other Important Information

  • In order for the 30 Generated Vehicles to be spawned in this Save File, 30 of Liberty City's Regular Parked Cars have been moved. We have tried to select vehicles that are not often used or will be noticeable in game, and make the choice as widespread as we can and not all from the same location.
  • As the Chain Game Chief, I know of all locations of the Generated Vehicles as I am responsible for creating the Save File. As such, I have no right to use such vehicles in the game to benefit my gameplay such as by delivering them to Import/Export Garages neither can I participate in 'Vehicle Hunt'.
  • As MrMateczko and TubewayArmy are Personal Vehicle Owners, they are not allowed to 'find' their own vehicles in the hunt or use them in ways that may benefit their gameplay such as by delivering them to Import/Export Garages but may participate in Vehicle Hunt as usual for the other 29 Vehicles in the game.
Hopefully I have covered all you need to know about the upcoming round, but if you are still unsure then please ask here in the lounge and we can clear up any confusions. This will be a fun round and I hope to see many of you participate and hopefully search for some vehicles too!

That was another great round, thanks to everyone for playing! Congratulations to @123robot for winning the most cookies in Vehicle Hunt! It was great to see the positive response to Generated Vehicles in the round, and I hope you all had fun searching :)

 

Now on to the Highlights. Nothing as good as what I'm sure TubewayArmy and 123robot captured from some of my turns, but still some good ones.

Hats off to you guys for keeping GTA III and the Chain Game alive. Yesterday, was the first time I played III (PS2) in literally almost 2 years and when I came to playing it, I sucked SO bad. I am currently redoing my Starter Save (53% After Luigi's Girls + DP/EC Kuruma in the SSV Garage) and then am doing TWO 100% Save Files to gather up ALL existing Special Vehicles. However, getting used to the Physics and such after playing SA/LCS/VCS for the past year is very difficult. You guys seemed to master this game. I get so used to Rotating Cameras and such and forget you can't do this in III/VC (PS2 at least). Not in a Car, not on foot, and it's very annoying when I go to do it, and forget it's not existing. I also forgot how poor the Damage Physics are. I was so bad that I nearly had the Kuruma from Give Me Liberty catch on fire before passing Luigi's Girls! :D:p A few bumps and it's smoking already. I flew the Dodo up to the SSV Lift Bridge for the Hidden Package up there and then at a time spent FIVE MINUTES positioning the Dodo so when I exit it, Claude is on the center barrier where the Hidden Package is. Only later to fail Paramedics Level 12 due to wack ass sh*t. I was on Level 9 when I was only given 17 Seconds (how come THIS game, does that, you can be on Level 1 and get 1:15 to pick one guy up, but then you get to a higher Level and you're given 17 Seconds only...The Time is so inconsistent almost making it luck based to pass it half the time) and when I reached one of the patients to pick up, a Stallion ran him over and STOPPED ON TOP OF IT...Time is tick, tick, tick, tick, ticking away and the f*cking guy is stuck under a Stallion. Horrible luck...

 

Then the horrors came back of the mysterious Securicar, Flatbed, and Bus. Why doesn't PS2 spawn these? Seriously...It's insane how I can boot up the Mobile Version (which is similar to PC) and see so many of these Vehicles pass by me within a few moments of playing, yet on PS2, you can basically do the entire Starter Save without even seeing a single one of these Vehicles in Portland...It's insane...Luckily I did find the Blista, Trashmaster, and Mr. Whoopee in Firefighter, though.

 

Even though there is no Safehouse Visits Stat in III, I am doing it in 5 Safehouse Visits. My goal is to get lower than 37 "Days Passed in Game" Stat which I had in my old Starter Save and also less than 61 Days Passed in Game Stat for the first of two 100% Saves. I am already at 4 Days Passed in Game, though, and 12% into it out of 53%.

It's not San Andreas CG, you have to say you're going to take a turn, then actually make it.

 

Pretty sure the San Andreas CG has that rule too. Also, I've fixed it. Thanks for point it out.

The Chain Game Discord Server


After suggestions we have received from several players of The Chain Game, we have decided to open up a Discord Server. Discord is an Instant Messaging Platform where groups of users can communicate together through Text and Voice Chat Channels.

The Chain Game Discord Server has an Announcements Channel, where information on the latest Chain Game Announcements and Rounds will be posted, as well as a General Channel for discussion with the other Chain Game Players. There is also a seperate Voice Chat Channel available for anyone who would like to use it.

All Players of the Chain Game, and other Members of the GTAForums Community interested in the Chain Game, are welcome to join the server whether you have previously used Discord or not. You will need to use your GTAForums Username on The Chain Game Server. Custom Usernames have been disabled, though if you do have a different username as you've used Discord elsewhere, you can contact a member of Chain Game Staff on Discord and this will be changed so you will have your GTAForums Username in The Chain Game Server. Any unknown users will be kicked.

The Discord Server will be moderated by the Chain Game Staff. It is expected that all players respect each other and other users of GTAForums when posting messages in the Server. Those who choose to post deliberately hurtful messages or content deemed inappropriate will be kicked and therefore unable to participate in any futher discussion.

More importantly, this is not a replacement for the Chain Game Lounge. If you have any concerns, suggestions or feedback for the Chain Game this should be raised in the Chain Game Lounge where all of our players will be able to read and respond if they choose to. Chain Game Announcements and Related Information will still be posted here and you are also more than welcome to continue to chat here as before.

Censorship only affects when you select Deutsch keyboard. I will play with Turkish keyboard so it won't block things.
