Grand Theft Auto III Chain Game Lounge

The Chain Game is a community based relay game for the Grand Theft Auto series. Players work together in each round to achieve an end goal, each taking turns to contribute progress along the way.

You can learn more about which games from the series we play, what rounds are currently running, and more in the new Chain Game Lounge, created in January 2022.

Of course you can. But don't use the Admin Console under any circumstances! For everyone's better gameplay.

If you read the rules, that's the way of the Chain Game.

I have been asked a question about the 'Purple Nine Glitch'. I have been investigating this question and this is what I have found out: The Purple Nines disappearance is coded in game, as it is part of the story. They disappear after Claude defeats their remaining soldiers in mission "Rumble". The 'glitch' itself, however appears ONLY when there is already another savegame(s) with mission "Rumble" complete in the GTA III User Files directory. The thing is that the program reads through all the savegames, and not only through the one you're loading. That's why when having read in another savegame [HdRumble=1](Mission complete) it codes the value [PurpleNinesWichGrd=0] (Nines do not appear). The solution is to remove all the savegames where mission "Rumble" is complete from the GTA III User Files directory. Then the game will not code the values above.
A notification to all who play the Chain Game: It is a good idea to be able to access all 3 islands from the beginning of the game and having a Dodo for this is a brilliant thing. That's why I would ask all players to bring the Dodo, Mr Whoopee and Blista to Portland Docks garage as soon as possible. Edited by GTAKid667

Arsen Vitiuk I found a Mr Whoope while doing Firefighter missions, but I forgot to steal it! I'm so stupid cry.gif

Well, don't disappoint too much. Either those 3 missions or more Firefighter missions will get us Mr Whoopee in no time. You can do the Firefighter to get Mr Whoopee next time it's your turn or you might want or assist us in bringing the game through these 3 missions - it's up to you. But now just think about what I said and what you could do.

==================================================

New request: Now that we have access to the Dodo, let's try to use it to collect the hidden package atop the Staunton Lift Bridge before opening Shoreside, if at all possible.

Also, let's bring the Enforcer to the Emergency Vehicle Crane - that will be easy, only needed to attain the 4-star wanted level.

Unique Vehicles List

The following vehicles are unique, and therefore most of them can only be acquired once during the game. I would like the GTA III Chain Game players to add some of these vehicles to the garages, because some of them have unique properties that may be very helpful during the course of the game. The following list shows the condition of aquisitability at the start of the game, right after the "Give Me Liberty" mission has been triggered.

Note that the FBI Car cannot be acquired until Staunton Island has been unlocked, along with the 5-star Wanted Level

Today I'm introducing the Liberty City Gangs Status graph in the GTA III Chain Game. You can use it to know which gangs like Claude and which do not. Also, note that those gangs that hate Claude will attack him on sight, so watch your back in their turfs. Edited by GTAKid667

I have an issue I would like to discuss. See, on Portland we have a garage space for only one car, and during Portland mission block we encounter 3 unique vehicles, of which we can keep only one. So which one is better for keeping?

  • Pale Green Kuruma from "Give Me Liberty"
  • Bulletproof/Fireproof Payroll Van from "Van Heist"
  • Manana with body in the trunk from "Dead Skunk In The Trunk"
Note that I didn't count Bulletproof/Explosionproof/Fireproof Cheetah form "Turismo", since it can be acquired after opening Staunton Island.

Also, I didn't mention the Dust Cart and Leone Black Limos - both the All-proof and the Regular ones, because these will definitely require a transportation to Staunton Island and beyond once they are snatched.

Today I'm introducing the Hideout Items List graph in the GTA III Chain Game. You can use it to know which items are available from hideouts and which are still not. Note that unavailable items will have information on how to unlock them in the brackets next to the item's name. Edited by GTAKid667

ATTENTON EVERYBODY!

SURPRISE!!!

To make Claude wield M16 in a special way, open the weapon.dat file in the data folder of the GTA:III game directory. Cut & Paste it on the desktop, open it with notepad, find the line staring with M16, highlight ALL the line, and insert the following values.

M16 INSTANT_HIT 80.0 1 1000 60 52 -1.0 -1.0 -1.0 -1.0 0.83 -0.06 0.14 WEAPON_hgun_body null 12 13 12 0 180 64

I could not make available to sprint with this weapon as it would require internal tampering but external tweaks allow Claude to fire M16 when running.

Guys! I noticed something interesting!

When I was doing Firefighter in my turn today, I didn't get any Blista or Mr Whoopee spawn on the roads. However, when I got into a Cabbie and was driving my first fare through Saint Marks, I noticed like 4 Mr Whoopees on the road. So I took one and delivered it to the Export garage in Portland Harbor.

But then I took another Cabbie and started doing Taxi. Guess what? I was having the Ice Cream vans spawn on almost every street. While I was doing Taxi, I saw Mr Whoopees drive in St Marks, Portland View, Atlantic Quays, Callahan Point, Chinatown and Hepburn Heights.

That means, driving a Cabbie increases the chances of Mr Whoopee to spawn!!! You'd all be advised to exploit this in further Rounds, should you be looking to deliver Mr Whoopee to Portland Docks Garage.

Guys! May I have your attention?

In order to increase the ease of the missions in the future, it is good to collect powerful weapons and ammo for them as soon as possible, provided we didn't find a corresponding amount of Hidden Packages before. These include M16, Sniper Rifle and Rocket Launcher. I will list some of these weapons locations on Staunton Island, and the players would do good bucking up as much ammo as possible for these weapons before the REAL hard missions begin.

M16

  • Bedford Point, The Car Park: across the platform where the Hidden Package was situated (access from the stairs outside) - 1 pickup = 60 bullets
  • Rockford, Phil's Army Surplus: After "Arms Shortage" sold for $ 5.000 - 1 pickup = 300 bullets
Sniper Rifle
  • Aspatria/Belleville border, Uncle BJ's Grocery Store: on the roof of the store (access by jump from the driveway on the Lift Bridge) - 1 pickup = 15 bullets
  • Newport, AmmuNation: Available to buy from the beginning of the game for $ 10.000 - 1 pickup = 25 bullets
Rocket Launcher
  • Rockford, Phil's Army Surplus: After "Arms Shortage" sold for $ 25.000 - 1 pickup = 5 rockets
There is a map complementary:

stauntonweapons.jpg

Teal are locations of M16

Green are locations of Rocket Launchers

Orange are locations of Sniper Rifles

Note that most of the time these weapons will cost money. Spend as much as you want to buy as more as possible, but remember: we MUST have $ 500.000 on account when we finish "Ransom" (if we have finished all other missions by then), otherwise, money will be hard to come by...

P.S. If somebody knows another location of aforementioned weapons on Staunton that I didn't know of, please, do not hesitate to reply. Remember: you'll not only be helping other players, but you'll be helping yourself as well.

WARNING!!!

magneto, could you please tell me what version of GTA:III game are you using? As far as I know, it is impossible to complete "Kingdom Come" before "Grand Theft Aero" has been complete. But nonetheless, you somehow managed to do it in this turn.

Unless you tell us what version of game you're using, your turn will be disqualified.

As for reference, I'm using a version 1.0 game.

EDIT: Handled for now. Moving on.

Seems we have a problem people. One hidden package is missing, and I've narrowed it down to being on Staunton Island.

When I took my turn it had been recorded that 69 were already collected, and that all packages were collected from Portland, Staunton Island and one had been collected from SSV (The one in the subway station).

Total Portland packages = 33

Total Staunton Island packages = 36

33 + 36 + 1 from SSV = 70.. not 69

It was also said that by the third turn that all the Portland packages had already been collected (that were possible at the time) and not far into Staunton Island that the two remaining Portland packages had been collected. This can only mean it's in Staunton.

So in a nutshell, I have collected the remaining 30 packages from SSV and we are now stuck on 99. I have went back over every single one of the Staunton Island package points, and in a desperate attempt I even looked again at Portland and SSV but have found nothing. Whoever finds this goddamn package gets a whole bag of cookies, because my brain hurts from searching.

Arsen Vitiuk

Hey, man, did you check the Staunton Lift Bridge? If you didn't, then it fits just right! It's in Staunton area, yet it could not be accessed by me at that time since we opened Staunton before bringing the Dodo to Portland Docks garage:

33 on Portland

35 on Staunton

31 on Shoreside

1 on Staunton Lift Bridge

33+35+31+1 = ...100

EDIT: Nope, I was wrong. The package on Staunton Life Bridge has been collected. That means the remaining package is on Shoreside. Keep searching, guys!

Attention Everybody!!!

Today I'm celebrating my first anniversary on the Forums. That's why I'm giving all GTA III Chain Game players a present:

The Waiting Period has been reset to 2 hours!!! That means that the Waiting Timer will reset after 2 hours since the last turn completion, not 4.

Also, the players can now complete 2 Named Missions in their turn except for 1, as stated in the original rules.

These changes are valid until July 17 2011 12:00 am GMT After that, every rule will be restored to original. Until then, Enjoy!

ATTENTION EVERYBODY!

Today I'm introducing the Player Status in the Grand Theft Auto III Chain Game.

The way it works is simple: If a player is taking turns, then his status will be "Active". If a player hasn't been taking turns for 7 consecutive days, then his status will become "Inactive". As soon as an inactive player takes a turn in the Chain Game, his status will become "Active" again. Note that it does not depend on whether the turn taken is valid or invalid.

I'll be keeping you on track with further developments. Enjoy!

Oh when I began playing GTA III this was the first mission I was stuck! I just couldn't shoot him with that pistol! Then I discovered I could just put bombs on his car happy.gif

Ah, what a nice memory... I remembered myself playing GTA III for the first time!

Luckily for me, I was familiar with another GTA games by that time, so the first thing I was doing after Introduction was collecting Hidden Packages, doing Rampages and Unqiue Jumps, and completing missions like Taxi, Firefighter and Paramedic...

I always complete Paramedic as soon as I start the game in every III era GTA except for San Andreas! Infinite Sprint is a great asset to the player!

I understood how wise I did by doing everything on Portland before "Don't Spank Ma Bitch Up" after "Sayonara Salvatore", when the Mafia with shotguns negated possibility of you doing Paramedic or Firefighter there...

Anyway, when I got to mission "Farewell 'Chunky' Lee Chong" I had many UZI and AK47 ammo, so I charged at him to kill him. That was on my first playthorugh. Later, when I learned how to access the other islands from the beginning, I had a Sniper Rifle, so I could pop his head right away!

But still, I'm not a fan of getting to islands before they are unlocked. I like opening them during the course of the storyline, even if I'm playing GTA III for my 10th time and I know everything about these islands. But I still find some new things like a new vehicle parking location or a weapon spawn point... GTA III will never stop to amaze me!

The first mission I had difficulty with, though, was "The Fuzz Ball". I could just not deliver all 8 hookers (and I wanted to deliver them all)

untl the day I found that the Coach can bear all 8 girls a the same time!

I was a "missions opportunist" and I stopped taking the missions from old guys as soon as missions from new guys opened (Joey, Toni and Salvatore). But in the end, I payed for my arrogance: I completed "Last Requests" without completing "Pump Action Pimp" and "Dead Skunk In The Trunk". As soon as I got to Staunton, I saw those missions disappear. I countinued playing, but after I killed Salvatore I realized that Joey and Luigi wold not be giving me missions - simple pure logic!

Luckily, I had a backup save from "Bomb Da Base: Act II" and could complete those Joey's and Luigi's missions to then just simply go to Staunton!

Ahh, those days... inlove.gif

If you have some memories about playing GTA III you'd like to share with us, post them here!

Edited by Arsen Vitiuk

I remember when I got to SSV for the very first time all I ever did was park cars half off the cliff opposite to the cochrane dam entry and push them off. As soon as the car exploded in the water, about 20 foolish pedestrians would proceed to jump off of the cliff to see what all the noise was coming from.

Arsen Vitiuk

ATTENTION EVERYBODY!

Today I've encountered an issue I never really bothered about before. One of our players completed the "Sayonara Salvatore" mission which makes Mafia hate Claude before all missions on Portland were done. And now those remaining missions have become a hell of a nightmare for the players to do.

That's why I'm asking all players to complete certain missions only AFTER other certain missions have been complete!

I've made a full list involving all possible missions and their outcomes:

  • "Taking Out The Laundry" or "Trial By Fire" has to be done AFTER Paramedic has been complete! (recommended)
  • "Bomb Da Base" Act II" has to be done after as much possible side missions on Staunton and Shoreside have been done (optional)
  • "Sayonara Salvatore" has to be done AFTER all possible missions on Portland have been complete!
  • "UZI Rider" has to be done AFTER all possible missions on Portland are complete
  • "Kingdom Come" has to be done AFTER all possible missions on Staunton are done (finishing with "S.A.M."; "Decoy" and "Marked Man")
  • TAXI and PARAMEDIC have to be done at any point before missions where gangs start to hate you!
