ArmyDeCalifornia
hi, I'm switching over to PC from PS3. I want to be able to play on Hig/ Very high on 1080/1440p in 60 FPS. Is there any pcs under $650 that can do this? Any help will be greatly appreciated! I'm stupid when it comes to 'specs' so if you could explain the specs and why I need them it would be highly appreciated Edited June 25, 2015 by ArmyDeCalifornia Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/803762-pc-budget-build-help/ Share on other sites
Fltbsh
Quite possibly, depends where you are based. Im in NZ and it will cost me $1200NZD to build a PC with specs to run it on ultra.. Just make sure you have a GTX 660ti or above GPU to run it. Processor isn't a big deal, id go with an i5 and maybe 8gb of ram. Just make sure your GPU is high end with a decent PSU. Ram and processors do not effect gaming as much. Fltbsh
For a build above is about $1000NZD. Id go with Nvidia over ADM. Intel and Nvidia run good together. AMD and AMD run well together, but AMD processors are sh*t. Get a 750ti if i were you, youll have plenty of room to edit, render game etc.. its what i used to have and i ran Battlefield 4 on ultra piece of piss and rendering videos was smooth as. Hope something ive said helps! hahaha Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/803762-pc-budget-build-help/?do=findComment&comment=1067649718 Share on other sites
Reformed Squid
Alright, so here's my recommendation for getting the absolute most out of 650 bucks. Keep in mind that this involves buying used parts. First, look out for used r9 290s on Ebay. These usually stay around $200-220 used. Just make sure you get any one that doesn't have this design (the reference cooler) because it runs as hot as hell. For example, after a quick search on ebay I found a used r9 290 for 216 bucks after shipping. Just keep your eye out here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_sop=15&_nkw=r9+290&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1 Why this graphics card? Because it's a beast, and if you can get it for 220 or so bucks then it's a steal that will fit your budget. Now for the CPU, there's two choices I'd recommend. First, buy a used i5 2500k off of ebay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_sop=15&_nkw=r9+290&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1 A Z68 motherboard for about 60 bucks when one comes up: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=z68+motherboard&_sop=15 And a decent CPU cooler like the Hyper 212 evo. It would be a very cost effective option, especially after you overclock the hell out of that processor. The chip may be 4 years old, but it's still a beast. Alternatively, you can do what Kampret posted and get the i5 4460, that would also be a solid option. As for everything else Kampret's post pretty much has you covered, but if you go with the i5 2500k and overclock it (or even the i5 4460) you may as well invest in a better power supply. The Corsair CX isn't horrible or anything, but it isn't that great either. Spending a bit more on something like this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K85X2AW/?tag=pcpapi-20 Will get you a higher quality product that can handle overclocks without a problem. It's a bit more money now for better reliability and piece of mind in the long run. It's never a good idea to skimp on the power supply, it's like the heart of the computer. If it goes then it may just take other components with it. Also if you want to go cheaper on the case that's fine, something like this case would suffice http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=CA-S210-B&c=CJ but at the same time there's nothing wrong in investing in a nicer home for your system. Also, if you buy parts from ebay, make sure you check the descriptions to make sure they're not broken components. Most people put that they're broken in the title, but some don't. I read it all, and thank you for explaining the processing and not to buy that Cooler design! NomadRider
Best bet is to do your own research and chose each component with no loyalty to any specific brand. Buy the best parts you can afford, new not used. Don't be or listen to the fanboys. AMD or intel is fine. Modern processors play well with either graphics card manufacturer. Your system is only as good as it's weakest part. You want new parts because when something dies it's nice to have a warranty to fall back on. Fltbsh
Im not loyal to any brand in specific, i like the AMD 6 cores etc. but for me they just do not process aswell as an intel, for gaming yes, but for rendering and editing intel would win for me With the GPU, i have to agree with Nomad Rider, i was jsut giving you my honest opinion as to what i would do, as i have spent countless hours on researching before i built mine! Best of luck with your build man, just build what you think is best, everyone has different preferences and needs Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/803762-pc-budget-build-help/?do=findComment&comment=1067653711 Share on other sites

The AMD 6/8 cores have very low single core performance but are very capable with multi threaded tasks; they're therefore not ideal for gaming (titles seldom properly utilise more than 4 threads) but better for rendering and editing as these applications tend to be designed for workstations running Xeon or other server-spec, multi-core and often multi-processor systems. AMD doesn't really have a horse in the processor race at the moment, and I say that as an AMD fan.
