Powerful gaming system under $500

Recommended Posts

So I found out I have a custodian bank account with $500 I was thinking about buying a PS4 and moving on to next gen, or can someone link me to a great gaming PC under $500 from https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

I've heard numerous times that you can build a PC with better hardware than the PS4 and XB1 for under $500, but I strongly doubt you can buy a new computer for under $500 that would meet the system requirements for newer games.

I'd just get a current-gen console instead of going through the hassle of building a gaming PC.

No way you will get a 'great gaming PC' for under 500 dollars.

Buy a PS4 man.

Sorry but you don't know what you're talking about

AMD, that's cute. He's better off with the PS4, at least you can buy 2 year warranties from Sony. If a PC build don't have Intel/Nvidia chipsets. It's worthless garbage. Another reason he's better off buying GTA V with a PS4 is because scumbag hackers are killing the online for the PC version.

1: You're an idiot

2: The PS4 has an AMD graphics card, so you're practically calling the PS4 a piece of garbage

3: Parts come with warranties

4: Rockstar bans anyone for modding online, don't act like it isn't true

5: You're an idiot

Not to mention he'd be saving money over time with cheaper games and not having to pay for online, while having more powerful hardware. Check yourself before you reck yourself, Sony fanboy.

1. You don't have a choice what goes into a console.

2. They come with warranties, but since AMD is known for breaking often, it's better to be able to buy warranties from Sony.

3. You're an idiot if you think going AMD over Intel/Nvidia in a PC is close to legit.

4. Rockstar takes way too long to hand these bans out, and this control is better on consoles.

5. You're an idiot.

6. The PS4's cooling architecture is good for keeping that AMD trash from blowing up. It would run you at least over a $100 to get good cooling for AMD's overheating prone garbage.

7. Anyone that will take an AMD over an Nvidia GPU because the dollar to performance ratio is good hasn't seen this picture.

Paying a little extra for better things is the best way to go. No one likes a cheap-o-bozo.

Wait... So it's okay if a console is filled with "crappy" components, but not a PC because consoles just "come that way"? Even if what you were saying about AMD was true (which it's not, mind you) then you're very obviously going for a double standard here to support your incorrect point.

Also, how is it that so many people have AMD parts and don't have a problem with them? How is it that the PS4 has AMD parts, yet it doesn't have mass problems with faulty hardware? Exactly. If AMD parts broke as much as you say they do, then people would also have to get their PS4's fixed constantly.

As for the whole online thing you're talking about, have you actually played both versions to have this oh-so-knowing wisdom or are you just talking out of your ass? (I'm guessing it's the latter.)

I'm seriously starting to suspect that you're just a desperate troll, nobody can be this ignorant... right?

"Cooling Architecture"?

...

Are you just saying whatever bullsh*t comes to your head now?

A decent sized heatsink, even the cheap one I put in the build above, is capable of running the CPU at a safe temperature even with a mild to moderate overclock. Hell, it's much better than the stock heatsink which still keeps it safe at stock speeds. The GPU has aftermarket cooling, and anyone who knows a thing about that knows that they any decently designed one will keep the GPU from overheating, no matter what the card. Are you seriously telling me a system shoved into a tiny box will cool better than a computer with large heatsinks and multiple fans?

Also, you posted an image with and without antialiasing, which both GPUs can do. Congratulations, you just proved nothing.

As mentioned before, the PS4's cooling is good for not making that junk from blowing up. If you run AMD in a PC without loads of fans, you're an idiot. But, a big enough idiot for buying AMD to begin with at all.

But, do you know what's even more stupid? Buying your PC all at once instead of buying it part by part, that way you don't get stuck in that trap of feeling like you have to buy AMD garbage. You can just afford everything over a period of time. That way you can get everything top of the line, and no second-to-best hardware like AMD.

1. Where did i say that i have an AMD Graphics card? i'll wait..

2. Only a moron would think you have to build a PC to get a decent gaming build.

3. Shut up you're talking out of you're ass and it's starting to stink.

4. I'm done replying to you as you're not worth my time.

So you're telling me this, with its tiny profile and small, low heatsinks, can keep AMD hardware cool...

xbox-one-hardware.jpg

But this can't?

That's like saying a laptop cools components better than a desktop with beefy heatsinks on the CPU and GPU. But whatever makes you sleep at night, buddy.

The PS4 runs at a cool 40-50 degrees don't it? That PC build right there already shows half of $100 in cooling to make that AMD run cool.

I think the better question is, why couldn't you give me a real answer for my GTA III Trilogy question?

Because

1. How hell would i know of mods for GTA III if i don't play it

2.you never asked me a question...

I've already played them all before, I haven't actually beaten them, but that's because I eventually grow tired of the controls. And, I don't think I can ruin the experience by bettering the experience. At the end of the day, making the gameplay better will get you a better game, not a ruined game. If I wanted to ruin the experience of GTA in the general idea, I would download an Iron Man mod.

Please show me where in there is a question to me?

That was my response to your response, doaf. Because, you gave some sort of reply of how looking for mods to make the gameplay better would ruin the experience.

First of all the PS4 is using weak components, of course it will be easier to cool.

With that said, it is possible to make AMD components run at safe temperatures without spending a dime on cooling. You know that stock heatsink that comes with the CPU? It's built to keep the CPU at acceptable temperatures at stock speed. Combine that with the fact that almost every GPU sold comes with a solid aftermarket cooling solution (even the cheapest versions of the card) and you have a perfectly cool system that needs nothing else but a case, which by the way usually comes with at least one fan.

You know why I even included the aftermarket cooler? For potential overclocking, because the CPU will be cool enough to be able to do that.

Based on AMD's flagship running against the Titan at the time. So weak.

What?

No sh*t the Titan is a fast card, but we're talking about the PS4 here.

It is matched by a 750 ti, or r7 260x/r9 270 on the AMD side.

I think it's safe to say you don't know what you're saying.

Under 500 a gaming PC isn't worth it imo.

But why not? The build I posted is significantly faster than either console (just look up 750 ti vs R9 280), and it uses quality components like an EVGA power supply. Plus it will be cheaper over time. There's really no downsides compared to a more expensive PC, besides the fact that the more expensive one will be even more powerful and probably even feature an SSD.

Also, it is worth noting that the average desktop with a decently new processor can most likely have a $130 750 ti and nothing else turn it into a solid gaming machine. You might want to keep that in mind OP, if you already have a desktop

The only downside to play GTA V on PC is all the hackers that Rockstar doesn't know how too properly handle.

Can I politely suggest you shut the f*ck up about things you're entirely clueless about? I take a pretty dim view of technological luddites spreading utter nonsensical bullsh*t and handing out poor advice in thus subforum and it's pretty damn clear that you're utterly clueless.

The build Cloudee posted is pretty good as a starting point.

Cloudee's post is a pretty good start, the people saying you 'can't build an inexpensive PC' or 'AMD is bad' don't have any idea what they're talking about.

I'd suggest waiting for other's opinion on the build before buying it, though.
