Upgrade to GTX 750ti or GTX 960?

Recommended Posts

I've had a GTX 750 1GB card for about a year & a half now. All of my games run at 60FPS on medium to high settings, with the exception of a few drops to 45FPS depending on the surroundings on poorly optimized games (GTA IV). I feel as if I can afford an upgrade now & I have two graphics cards in mind; the GTX 750ti & the GTX 960.

Both cards have 2GB VRAM, however, there's a good $100 (in my country's economy) between them. I want to know if there's really that much of a difference between them both. Is it even worth the upgrade & is the 960 that much superior to the 750ti? Keep in mind, I don't have much to choose from, so there are practically my only options. I run my games at 960p since my monitor can't support 1080p. I'll mainly be playing GTA V & some newer releases such as Mad Max, Just Cause 3, etc.

I'd like to know a couple of opinions, thanks.

Can you post the full specs of your PC?

IMHO if you want to upgrade the GPU go for the GTX960. GTX750Ti won't be that much faster to make the upgrade worthwhile.

Given that there's not a huge difference in price between a 960 and a 970 and yet the performance gulf between them is massive, the 960 strikes me as a bit pointless. You'd be better served saving $70 and picking up a second hand GTX680.

Where are you getting that number? The cheapest second-hand 680 I could find was $200 and that's how much the 960 goes for.

OP you should look out for used HD 7950s, I've seen some that were as cheap as $110 working.

Yeah, both the 750 and its Ti counterpart run on the same silicon anyway; the non-Ti part is essentially the 750Ti with some stuff cut down.

The fact I just sold one on eBay for £120. You can get a new, boxed reference GTX680 for £139.99 here.
