Woman murdered and daughter abducted, Murderer posts on Facebook

The mugshots of the suspects:

Seems like it was planned:

Greene County prosecuting attorney said Tuesday morning that Gypsy Blancharde, 23 (not 19 as previously reported), and her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, 26, of Big Bend, Wisconsin. are charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action for the stabbing death of Dee Dee Blancharde, Gypsy's mother.

Investigators say the awful comments posted on Dee Dee and Gypsy Blancharde’s joint Facebook account, which alerted friends, were both authored by Gypsy. Investigators say Gypsy called Nicholas Godejohn, her boyfriend, and he traveled to Springfield to pick her up and kill her mother because she asked him to do so.

The investigation found that Gypsy, who reportedly always used a wheelchair, did not take one and can walk just fine.

The sheriff says there are many questions about the Blanchardes' background, including financial fraud, and doubt that they were even Hurricane Katrina victims as they previously claimed. Investigators are continuing to look into the many “twisted details” as the sheriff calls them, in this case.

God damn.

make total destroy

The title is misleading. She wasn't actually abducted, she was in on the murder.

Sorry I forgot to change the title before I posted because I wasn't done reading.

Apparently con artists. I'm guessing there was a dispute over money between the two, or 'Gypsy' was just tired of the scheme and wanted to disappear. As you said, though, this whole case is very strange.

Edited news release from Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson:

Gypsy Rose Blancharde, 23, of Springfield, and Nicholas Paul Godejohn, 26, of Big Bend, Wis., are charged for the murder of Ms. Blancharde’s mother, Clauddinnea "Dee Dee" Blancharde. The defendants were charged jointly in a felony complaint filed Tuesday for first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Greene County Circuit Judge Calvin Holden set bond for both defendants at $1 million.

The defendants are in custody in Wisconsin and will be brought back to Missouri to face the charges. Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson thanked the Greene County sheriff’s investigators for their quick and tireless work in solving this case.

Details are emerging that Gypsy Rose Blancharde has a secret life, as did possibly Dee Dee also. In previous news reports, Gypsy Rose was reported to suffer from muscular dystrophy and leukemia, and use a wheel chair. In an interview about their new Habitat for Humanity House in 2008, after she and her mother moved here from Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, her age was listed as 12.

The probable cause statement used as the basis of the charges against her and Godejohn lists three birth dates for Gypsy Rose: 7/27/1991, 7/27/1995, and 7/28/1992. There also appears to be another Facebook page for her that is separate from the one that she shared with her mother, Dee Dee Blancharde. On that page, she goes by Snowgypsy Blanchard.

20150616-112605-jpg.jpg At a news conference, Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott said the murder investigation uncovered a long history of "mystery and public deception," that appears to include the multiple birth dates. He cautioned people to be careful about donating to GoFundMe accounts set up to help the family. He said the deception includes financial fraud, as evidenced by several thousand dollars taken by Gypsy Rose from a safe in the home.

"Things are not always as they appear," Arnott said.

That includes the fact that Gypsy can walk "very well" without a wheel chair.

Arnott said Dee Dee Blancharde had been separated from her family for at least 16 years, "for various reason." He said the financial fraud that she and Gypsy Rose carried out is

a "long pattern" and "extensive." He said he doesn't yet know the full extent of the fraud.

The fraud may include the fact that the Blanchardes got a home from Habitat for Humanity in 2008 after moving here and claiming to be refugees displaced by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Habitat for Humanity provides homes with interest-free mortgages, using donated labor and materials; the people who get homes also have to agree to provide "sweat equity" when the home is being built. (Editor's note: a previous version of this report erroneously said the homes are provided to the owners free for only sweat equity.)

Edited probable cause statement by Greene County sheriff's Detective Stanley Hancock:

On June 14, 2015, the Greene County Sheriff's Office was called to 2103 W. Voluntary Way, Springfield, Missouri, a location in Greene County, Missouri, to check the well being of the residents, Clauddinnea Blancharde, DOB: 05/03/1967 and her daughter, Gypsy Blancharde, DOB: 07/27/1995. A friend called 911 because of threatening messages on Clauddinnea's Facebook page which read, "That —s dead!" and another post stating "I —SLASHED THAT **** AND RAPED HER SWEET INNOCENT DAUGHTER. ..HER SCREAM WAS SOOOO LOUD LOL." The Facebook postings were being sent from Clauddinnea's own account and they had been sent on June 14, 2015.

During a search of the residence, under the authority of a search warrant, Clauddinnea was located face down on her bed with multiple stab wounds to her back area. She further had a gaping laceration to the back of her neck. Gypsy Blancharde was not located at the residence though the only vehicle known to be used by Clauddinnea and Gypsy was at the residence.

The Facebook postings were determined to have been sent from a location registered to Nicholas Godejohn, DOB: 05/20/1989, from an address of W228 S8755 Cherry st., Big Bend, Wisconsin. Contact was made with the Waukesha County Sheriffs Office and their Deputies responded to the location. Waukesha County Deputies located Gypsy Blancharde and Nicholas Godejohn and after a brief standoff they were detained.

On June 16, 2015, contact was made with Nicholas at the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office and he was advised of the reason for contacting him. Post Miranda warning Nicholas admitted coming to Springfield, Missouri to see Gypsy. He asked her at one point if she was sure she wanted him to do kill Clauddinnea and Gypsy said yes. He admitted he stabbed Clauddinnea several times in the back while he was on top of her holding her down. He stated it was at night when he went in to stab Clauddinnea and she was lying down and believed to be asleep. Nicholas stated he thought about raping Clauddinnea however he did not do it.

The knife he used was given to him by Gypsy. He stated he would not have killed anyone unless Gypsy had asked him to, and this is why he killed Clauddinnea. He mailed the knife to his home address so he would not get caught with it. Nicholas said he went to the bathroom where Gypsy was hiding at to let her know he had cut his finger with the knife while he was stabbing her mother. They both began cleaning up the blood in the hallway. They took several thousand dollars from a safe from inside Clauddinnea's bedroom. Nicholas stated he knew what he had done was wrong, but he did it for Gypsy because she asked him to.

On June 15, 2015, I made contact with Gypsy at the Waukesha County Sheriffs Office and advised her of the reason for me contacting her. I read Gypsy her Miranda warning, and she agreed to speak to me. Post Miranda warning she admitted to being at the residence when her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, had stabbed her mother. She admitted to knowing her boyfriend was going to stab her mother, and she did nothing to stop it nor did she report it to the authorities.

Gypsy admitted she was in the house when her mother was being stabbed, and she could hear her screaming. Gypsy admitted to posting on Facebook the comment, "that — is dead." She posted this because she wanted her mother found quicker by law enforcement. She tried to clean up Nicholas' blood by using baby wipes. After she cleaned up some of the blood she called a Yellow Cab to come and pick her and Nicholas up, and she left the residence in the cab with Nicholas.
