Rhino Dissection: GTA V

Hello all,

I will be starting small infographic's on the Rhino in the various Grand Theft Auto games.

These a just little bits of information on the tank, the guide will include:

- A detailed diagram of the tank, with some small facts

- Vehicle's look-alike counterpart

- Brief history of the look-alike and how it compares to the Rhino

- Where to find it on the map

- My opinion of the in-game vehicle and its worthiness

This small guide is mostly opinion based, as it is mostly just me ranting on about the tank.

Here we go:

Diagram:

GTA_V_Rhino_Front.png

GTA_V_Rhino_Rear.png

- Roadwheels are rubber rimmed.

- Tracks appear to be rubber chevron tracks

- Commander's MG looks like an M2 Browning

- Mudguards seem to be armored

- The vehicle looks like it has a riveted armor scheme. This is a very dangerous layout as shrapnel from the rivets may kill the crew members. This may also mean that the vehicle does not have modern armor

- Vehicle looks like it has a four man crew

- The main gun fires so fast it seems like an autocannon

Look-alike counterpart:

leopard-2a4-02.jpg

West German Leopard 2A4 (Vehicle is also very similar to the 2A0, 2A1, 2A2, and 2A3 variants)

Brief History:

Leopard-2A4_PzBat-214-7Pzd_CMTC.png

Leopard 2A4 of the Bundeswehr (7th batch), 214th Panzer Batallion, 7th Panzer Division, CMTC Hohenfels, October 1990.

The Leopard 2A4 specifically was the most important variant in quantity and amplitude of changes. About 1,800 were built between 1985 and 1992. This is the most well known variant.

This vehicle is very similar to the Rhino we see in-game, tanks of these types are still being used today.

Where to find the Rhino on the map:

The Rhino can be found at Fort Zancudo.

Opinion:

I think this is the best tank Rockstar has made, as it is the most detailed and accurate. It's very fun to drive around the City and combat other tanks in Zancudo. You're pretty much unstoppable if you have a tank online. There are several minor cons, though. The roadwheels are so few that I don't believe it could hold the vehicle's weight. The driver's hatch should be right in the middle of the hull, instead of on the left sponson.

Surprised nobody has done this before....good job, sir/madam! Am I right in recalling V's Rhino is technically the first to be a 'proper' tank with tracks? Or second, as CW has tracks as well....?

Thanks! I believe that GTA: Chinatown Wars is the first with tracks (so it appears). Funny thing because the Rhino's without tracks are not tanks by definition, but they are more like heavy wheeled armored vehicles.

Rhino is the worst it's ever been. If it were more damage resistant it wouldn't suck. You drive it around online and you're liable to get a rocket or sticky bomb up your ass, I don't know what you're talking about "pretty much unstoppable."

I do like the treads though, but they crush cars, causing them to instantly detonate, causing the tank to blow up.

Well, you'll need to play it smart with the Rhino, make sure you can gain the upper hand when you're fighting someone. Two direct hits will ruin your day, so you'll need to stay mobile and wish the guy on the receiving end doesn't know what he's doing.

I generally avoid ramming cars whenever I can. The least I do is slow down.

The worst is when you have a wanted level and the police & noose are up your ass and just blow themselves up all the time :/

Yeah, urban combat doesn't go well with tanks. Find a nice rural area and camp there. You can survive for such a long time.
