Shpati
I backed up these save files from a couple of years ago. Now I'm in the mood to play San Andreas again, but for some reason, I cannot get them to work. I'm not sure why. When I try to load the save, it will finish the loading screen, go black for about 5-10 seconds, and Windows just give me the crash error. As far as I know, Version 1 is 1.00 and Version 2 is patch 1.01, right? Because I know I patched the game to 1.01 a couple of years ago before I started playing. I have patch 1.01 right now, and it isn't working. I tried going back to patch 1.00 just to see, and it still didn't work. - I'm on Windows 7. And these saves were originally made on Windows 7. - This is not on Steam and I never used the Steam versions. - I don't use Mods and never did. I tried this "solution" too, but it didn't work: (I put the original files back after it didn't work) It's kind of an important save because I did all the vehicle school stuff. If there is any more information you need, please let me know. EDIT: I recently had this issue with GTA Vice City too. But that was easily fixable by starting a new game and just loading the save from there. That won't work with SA. It will just instantly crash when I try to load my backed up saves that way. Also, I forgot to mention that I was able to create and load a save when I started a new game. I just can't use these old saves I backed up. The Game has an Official Patch V1.01 to fix problems with the DVD game and Render it unmoddable. This game requires the DVD to be in the Drive as a key. Version 2 is the DVD Second Edition. The DVD (v2) game was already updated from the publishers. The lower right of the screen will say v2.0. This DVD is required to be in the drive as a key. Version 3 is the STEAM registered Down Load game. That has been patched. The v3 STEAM game is the only Game that does not need a DVD to be in the drive. This is the only game that does not require a DVD to be in the Drive, it does require a connection to STEAM to verify the game is legal to play. The DVD v2.0 and the STEAM registered v3 games both use the same (v2) game saves. Since you have not used the game in many months it is most likely that your machine has at some point done an Upgrade of the drivers, which would render the games configuration. gta_sa.set, file obsolete. Delete the gta_sa.set file. The game will make a new one with updated information. (Same with the other GTA games.) I know this is OT, but what's the difference between a Version 1.0 patched with 1.01 and a Version 2? Was Version 2 just pre-patched before it was sold? lil weasel
I will repeat: The First Edition DVD is version 1, it had many faults and the ability to mod. When the Publisher issued the only Official Patch v1.01 to fix the faults/bugs in the game it also removed the ability to apply Mods. The Second Edition DVD is version 2. It is already "fixed" and does not allow for modding as it is issued. Both editions require the DVD to be present in the Drive for the game to play. Shpati
I doubt I can get those saves back. But I started a new game anyway, so does anybody know what I can do to preserve these saves in the future if I have to reformat my current computer, or get a new computer? gangster2332

lil weasel
Are you playing with the DVD in the Drive? copying to a Flash Drive is quick and easy way to keep saves safe. Having to reformat a hard drive indicates a very serious problem usually associated with virus/malware. 1. Please try uploading your latest save game using: http://gtasnp.com/ Then copy paste it here. 2. Do the same with one of the games you have from the past too. That will allow someone here to compare them. Edited June 16, 2015 by lil weasel
Shpati
I always use a no CD crack. 1.01 patch. I usually just keep all my GTA save files on a flash drive, along with other video game saves. Anyways, here is the new saved game which i am using now, that loads and saves fine: http://gtasnp.com/xE0uCZ Here is an old one that I was trying to get to work again: http://gtasnp.com/HubICA It looks like the old one that I was trying to get to work again uses v2 Script/SCM Version. While the working save I am using now is using v1. I'm not exactly sure what this means, but I'm sure this is the problem? What's the difference between v1 and v2 Script/SCM? Solution lil weasel Posted June 16, 2015 Solution Share Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) There is your problem. The Old save was made with the DVD Version 2. When you Cracked the game you used a stolen (torrent/warez/pirated) version 1. A Crack is a MOD. The FIX is to Get rid of the Crack and use the DVD in the drive as it was intended. Then your game save and versions will match. The difference was explained simply before. V1. game allows for Modding of the code. V2 game in order to prevent the Modding has adjusted the code and put in checks. V1 later (just before V2 was mandated by the courts) was Patched to prevent the use of mods. The Patch was to be applied by the User, many of them refusing to do so because of the desire to continue modding. Eventually an unlawful method of playing the game was made called "Cracking" which allowed the game to be played without the Key (disc). You now have the illegal copied crack. that is causing your problem. Since you have applied the v1.01 official patch you have no intention to mod the game. So when you uninstall the game and do the proper reinstallion AND continue to play WITH the key (disc) in the machine everything should be fine.
