Does the in-game economy benefit or disadvantage how much fun the play

........player has in the game?

A lot of what is wrong with GTAOnline, I feel rests with the in-game economy system.

I miss the simplicity of GTA IV's multiplayer, sure there are aspects of GTAOnline I like, such as the personal vehicles, but I just feel as though too much in the game is catered towards encouraging players to spend in game money, rather than just have simple fun.

Let me explain a good example to illustrate my point.

Think back to IV's multiplayer, you're being chased by another set of players, you want to escape, but you're car is heavily damaged and is about to set fire, and explode, you have seconds to either come to a stop and run through an alley, or you can see a health pack in the distance that will fix the car for you, it's a race to it, and you just make it in time, and you can continue your escape. That doesn't happen on GTAOnline.

In freemode in your personal vehicle, nobody will bother chasing you down because if you're driving something quick and expensive they have to pay a price (now up to $25k with the new $2m Osiris Super Car!) and when they do, it's going to take a lot of bullets (because most players will have spent another $50k on car armour, unless of course like most players you're going to end up bombed by sticky bombs ($600 each). I honestly don't get what Rockstar wants players to do in GTA any more, because it increasingly seems the life of crime is pointless because in order to get a nice car and keep it , you need to buy it rather than steal it unlike the name of the game suggests. It's becoming MTV Cribs the Game.

Let's take into account, the mode nobody plays because it's broken, capture modes, you're either criminally under armed (ie. no ammo because forced and pick ups give you just a few clips) or over armed (ie. owned weapons gives you your full arsenal of weapons). Why is this? Why is there no middle ground? Such as weapon spawns located through out the map? Why just a few weapon pick ups? In - game economy. I personally love created content and the concept of making your own races, I wanted to make a DM like a recreation of a 1920's mobsters shootout in the movie studio with just gusenberg sweepers, but it's not possible because DLC guns unlike DLC vehicless aren't added to the creator options. Why? Maybe it's because the in-game economy system means that Rockstar are worried players won't purchase the weapons to use, but will just somehow extract them from the created content?

On the other hand though, the in-game economy gives a meaning and value to the in game cash rewards you might get from criminal activities still featured, i.e. co-op missions, I like it, but then again, I do think everything is far too inflated in price, and that things should be cheaper, and some rewards less, but then again I'm not a 12 year old kid, driving a chrome entity, throwing sticky bombs at everything that moves, and asking mommy to buy a shark card because Rockstar just released another DLC, that gave me more chances to show off in one of those 'car meets' everyone likes to pretend is fun.

TL:DR the in-game economy adds a reward system, but comes at the price of removing the simplicity and enjoyment and dictates the amount of fun possible in the game, that used to be about being an online criminal, but is now more focused on buying cars, clothes and showing off.

"but then again I'm not a 12 year old kid, driving a chrome entity"

So you think a player who drives a chrome entity is a 12 year old kid? I think we need to stop judging the personal lives of people based on their choice of tunings.

No, obviously I'm using an example of the type of player who seems to enjoy this game most.

1) F2P, what more can I say. Devs and publishers don't just want a lot of your cash in advance, they want to constantly receive a stream of cash.

2) Same thing as achievements. People no longer can have fun on their own, they need to receive rewards, the game telling them "look you're having fun". Then those gamers will come to the forum and defend their "hard work" "earning" what they want to buy.

This game is not for you.

f*ck simplicity. I want a long drawn out game that takes forever to get anywhere. I want it to be difficult. I want lopsided modes like Adversary and Capture. I want high prices and low pay. I want to get angry at the game. I want to have to work for a week to buy one car.

I'm being dead serious.

What economy? Until Rockstar release the casino or let us trade with other players in some way (the trading will never happen) there is no economy in GTA Online.

There's not really an economy in GTA Online, if there was, it's been ruined by the amount of modded money given to players.

When playing legit it's not so much an economy as a coin fed operation. There is no market for anything yet, we only make money from working then spend it on getting to work and working more effectively (vehiles, ammo, weapons, food).

Basically it can be compared to a food stamp system for consenting slaves. We work, we get better tools, that's all.

For there to be a real economy we need something to invest in that might make us more or even less wealthy which impacts the prices of assets we can buy. For example, if we collectively invest more in Ubermach than Pegasis then the price of those vehicles would adapt to their stock prices.

Or if a new car is released and many players buy that specific model (looking at you Zenporno) over time the price will go down faster than other models.

Currently there is nothing about the economy that is tangible or sustainable imo, it's just a fake pay to play that can turn real in an instant.

Money has been key in all Grand Theft Auto games. The idea of getting rid of in game money is like building a car wih square wheels. Just won't work. Whats the point of playing? Ranking up and earning money are the two most important aspects of GTA Online.

GTA IV online was horrible.

it was horrible but had things that gtao dont have a probably would never have due to the monetization of the game.

many people wont admit it but you need money to have fun in this game.

you need money money for everything, heck you have to pay a entry fee to enter a job.

(Spent on Job & Activity entry fees - $383.5K)

money is everything in this game!

If we had access to everything for free I would not be still playing today. I probably wouldn't have bothered even getting it on next gen.

i believe it's all because of the unemployement rate in los santos. at any time of day there are pedestrians everywhere crashing into me. we need more jobs in los santos to get rid of the terrible economy and encourage others to go and shop in the clothning shops.

GTA 4 online was certainly fun and had some nice aspects, but I like the idea of creating my character and earning items for them to use. With GTA's success I don't think it's going back.

This. There is no trade of wealth. U cant have an economy if u can buy money via cash cards...I would debate you about this but I agree with you.. GTA has no economy what so ever.

You kids are stupid as f*ck anymore.. L2 f*ckING ECONOMICS. Really and us older people wonder why tf this country is going down the sh*tter.. get your asses a history lesson..

You say economy prove it is..

To the guy above. I csn say wow for instance has a real economy not some sh*t money sink they call an economy.. anyway your idea of buying kesh Kerds is like the Chinese gold farmers in wow.. the only thing they do is inflate the economy to where your gold coins aren't worth as much as they were say a yr ago.. kinda like the same thing with real life money.. when they injected billions into the economy after the housing bubble of 2008 the inflation rate rose a bit because of it..

Anyway lesson in economics for you stupid kids out there..

And I didn't read your post because it makes no sense considering there is no economy in this game..

Gitches/Hacks ruined the economy which ruined the game. I see lvl 10 kids with garages full of chrome super cars and i doubt they all bought shark cards.

Lol, you can't ruin an economy that never existed in the first place...

But if someone talks about the economy in gta online you know of course they are taking about the money system and how it works in the game so what would you prefer to call it ?

Actually this is wrong again..

So bob get 1 billion dollars from idiot wit a trainer ok.. How exactly does this affect you really?

You go grind missions get 5 dollars how does this affect bob?

Neither case has any effect on either player.. so therefore not an economy it ia a money sink.. kinda like the government is on the people.

People really need to look up what an economy is. Its just so painful to read.

But hey on a bright note look who will be running the country. The ones who think gta has an economy that's who..

We are so f*cked..
