Anyone else wish free roam was always like this?

Free roam, while certainly open, gets boring for me. Nobody really cares about or golf or tennis, this game is about criminal enterprising, but free roam lacks ways of making a steady income of GTA$.

 

I'm not a big free roam war player, so after I sell that initial car, maybe a car to Simeon or other random event, there's not much else to do.

 

With this weekend of random events and crate frequency turned way up, I finding myself enjoying free roam A LOT more. I could spend quite awhile in there without getting bored. I don't have to sit in lobbies and just wait for other players to join because I have the option to entertain and make money by myself.

 

Anyone agree? Anyone indifferent?

No, I completely agree.

 

The crate drops for me are an excellent way of enticing players to compete over something worthwhile in free mode. The only downside being the passive mode user, that can sometimes sneak in unharmed.

 

I don't see the point or purpose of fighting wars in free mode, it seems utterly pointless. Everyone depends on marksmen rifles / first person / helmets / sticky bomb drivebys' / jets..... ganging up on on players....if you want to shoot eachother, do it in TDM, no annoying cops there, plus you actually earn some $.

I agree. I've always thought the drug dealing from Chinatown Wars would fit nicely into GTAO, I could spend all day ferrying drugs from one end of the map to the other for a bit of extra cash...

 

The Simion vehicles could do with paying out a bit more too.

 

I'm not really into getting into firefights and losing 500 upon each death for no good reason so I spend most of my GTAO time in private servers with friends doing casual stuff or, if one of us needs extra dough, missions/heists. Something like drug dealing would be a nice break from the monotony...

Free roam missions where like delivering Simmons car. Every free roam player has a chance to stop you etc

Only difference is i laugh when people rage text me when i blow their useless buzzards, lazers, and savages out of the sky, then snatch up the crate and escape.

Glad to see R* is still not understanding how stupid passive is.. or insurance. They might get it in a few more years.

Can't beat em join em. A hydra and passive mode works wonders for winning crate wars

but what happen with the armed npc protecting the crate?

The frequency of the random free mode jobs this weekend is how it should always be as standard. Regular crates (outside of events) should be as frequent as the special crates are right now too.

 

I know this would leave little for them to expand upon for the events, but they could just up the payouts or RP bonuses. They would still have the extra special crates and bonus items within. It's dumb how much time you can spend in free mode with literally nothing happening.

 

I guess they never were able to fix the armoured trucks since they almost never spawn at all now.

Yes, normally only one thing spawns per HOUR and that is if you're lucky. I love this, we can get progress on medals and earn some cash too.

 

I just blow Simeon's HPV sky high with my Hydra if that spawns though, not worth the hassle. Next event please. :p

That's another thing: Tasks seem to spawn way more frequently when you're playing solo. What's the point of that?

It would be cool if they added a free roam drug dealing and maybe a burglary side activity.Basically,this is how I would design those missions:

 

Drug dealing

-you choose an area where you want to sell and start a drug dealing side mission in the interaction menu

-you hang out in that area and wait for NPCs to buy drugs from you

-selling drugs in a richer areas like Vinewood,Rockford Hills,Richman,Chumash and others makes the customers buy rarely,but paying more money

-selling drugs in a poor areas like Los Santos ghettos or Sandy Shores makes the customers buy more often,but pay less

-selling drugs in a gang turf (Chamberlain Hills-Families,Davis-Ballas,Rancho-Vagos and Aztecas,El Burro Heights and Vespucci-Marabunta Grande,Stab City and East Vinewood-The Lost MC,Sandy Shores and Harmony-Rednecks) makes it more dangerous,if a gang member notices you selling in their turf he will first warn you to either pay him to sell in their turf or go away,if you don´t pay him or leave he returns after 5 minutes with a few more members to try and beat you up,and if you beat them up their gang does a drive by shooting on you after 5 more minutes (if they kill you,the mission is over,but you keep the money you made)

-to avoid getting attacked by a gang,you could pay the gang member to deal in their turf and even pay him a little extra to send a few members of his gang to protect you from other players

-if the cops see you,you get a wanted level and they arrest you or kill you and the mission is over (if they arrest you,you lose the money you made)

-if the other player notices you,they can kill you to steal your money and the mission ends without you getting payed,but to avoid making the mission too hard,during the drug dealing missions you don´t appear on the radar,the other player can only notice you by your character looking and acting differently than NPCs

-if you get too far from the area where you started the mission,it ends (to avoid people using radar invisibility to grief other players)

 

Burglary

-you have to find a specific van and wait for a night time to activate it,just like in GTA SA

-you activate it in the interaction menu and cruise the area looking for a house to break into,just like in GTA SA

-finding an unlocked house in richer areas is hard,but there is more stuff in them

-finding an unlocked house in poor areas is easier,but there is less stuff in them and there can sometimes be an armed owner inside

-you look for expensive looking stuff and take them to your van (you have to carry larger stuff like TVs,DVDs,computers and consoles one by one,but you can just put smaller stuff like cell phones,jewelry and wads of cash in your pockets)

-if another player sees your burglary van,they can steal it to deliver the goods and get money themselves (like with Simeon´s high priority vehicles),but while breaking into houses you are not visible on the radar (while on a burglary,your weapons are limited to melee and pistols only,to avoid using the radar invisibility to grief other players)

-if you get killed by the house owner or cops or arrested by cops,the mission ends without getting payed,but if you get killed by another player who steals the van,you get a chance to get it back and deliver the goods yourself to make money.If the other player or cops destroy the van,mission fails without anyone getting payed

-adding burglary side mission would also add some interiors in the houses you break into

A crate dropped in a busy session up near grapeseed. Half the players headed up there and battle ensued. Once the creat had been picked up a load of us stayed up there and brought a slice of LS to the countryside. It was great to have many messing about out in the sticks. It's a shame there is not more to entice people out of the city.

So players would be less concerned about killing each other or doing money glitches with the slew of activities to do.

Sure enough, it wouldn't stop that one wannabe thug/mercenary/soldier/rambo to go after other players who are minding their business, just to fulfill their hard on for killing and boost their K/D ratio. BUT, it would be way less worse than it was before this update came around.

It's hard to believe:

Yesterday I created a new character, felt like doing it, I dunno why. Finished the tutorial, snatched a Voodoo off the streets and went to free roam, three high level players zoom passed me in their sports cars, NO ONE of them bothered in slowing to get their free kill. I was amazed..
