GTA 5 Stuttering Issue [Help]

Question

parthurnax3

So i just randomly got this random stuttering from nowhere i didn't even know where it came from, before i got this stuttering issue, my GTA 5 was fine and smooth, even now when i have the stuttering, i still got 40+ FPS when doing the included Benchmark, but the benchmark is like stuttering

Even the sound is crackling/stuttering too, i'm all out of solutions, and i'm new to this forum, if any of you would be so kind to help me that would be very much appreciated

Btw i have tried tweaking it using user shared Nvidia control panel settings around the internet and i've tried tweaking the ingame option itself even updating the lates Nvidia driver + integrated graphic card driver + sound card driver

My spec [Laptop]

- Intel Core I7 4700HQ

- Nvidia GeForce Gt 745m @2GB

- 8 GB of RAM

- Intel HD graphics 4600

That's pretty much it, thank you

Im experiencing the same problem everytime I play (Online) since the last update. Bufore the patch my game was running butter smooth with almost maxed settings 1080p at 60 fps. Now though it runs smooth, theres little stutters and hiccups every 5-10 secs which is freaking annoying..

I hope there will be a fix, workaround or patch to solve this.

I'm having the exact same problem on my GTX 780 with my Sony TV. I did notice that in all versions before my Refresh Rate showed 59hz in the settings menu as the highest option when everything was running smooth. Now it shows 60hz since the patch and all these hiccups have sort of a vsync problem type of feel to them. I do know my TV runs at like 59.97hz so something may be off. I wonder if they did something to the refresh rate/vsync part of the code that is causing this problem for some people.

Good thinking, it could be true !

I play on my FullHD Samsung TV as well (60 Hz)

By creating a custom resolution in nvidia control panel, in my case 2560*1440 @60.001hz and then using afterburner to lock framerate @ 60hz. Everything is fine.

Just enable v-sync in nvidia control panel and then disable it in game.

If I use my 1080p/144hz g-sync monitor I have a lot of stuttering.

So now I only use my 1440p/60hz to play Grand theft auto 5.

If you're using more than 3.5gb of vram that could be the problem, although if you aren't then there's a different cause.

Also agree with this , i was searching forums thru google and came across this site as i have the same problem with the latest patch. Hicups in frames related to vysnc but before framerate was stable at 60fps.

I7 4770 @ 4.4

16GB kingston hyper X

Titan X 12GB

Samsung Evo 850

1000 Leadex Platinum

Tried different driver versions frame limiters power profile etc , hope they fix whatever it is they have done :/

This Vsync thing is isteresting, i never used the ingame vsync, just from the the nvidia control panel. Can we change the ingame value back to 59Hz manually somehow? gameconfig.xml or somthing like that?

settings.xml:

-<video>
<AdapterIndex value="0"/>
<OutputIndex value="0"/>
<ScreenWidth value="1920"/>
<ScreenHeight value="1080"/>
<RefreshRate value="50"/>
<Windowed value="0"/>
Refresh Rate value 50 could be the problem. Ill look into this a bit later and let you now.
EDIT: Unfortunately it didnt work, still got the little hiccups. I dont know if you guys have it the same way, but in the graphics settings at refhresh rate there is 3 values: 50, and 60 twice. One of the 60 is really 59, because in the settings.xml it looks like this: <RefreshRate value="59"/>. Thank you Rockstar Games for messing up the game again with this update. (Enus Windsor and the Virgo are freaking awesome vehicles though)

vsync has always been messed up with game , the better option was turning it on within nvidea control panel however this option is no longer viable.

just to add ive have now submitted a ticket to rockstar if others could do the same would be good :)

copy of ticket (please not will update when further information becomes available)

Game hiccups / stutters with vysnc enabled.

The game has always suffered vsync issues ie hiccups / stutter when using the ingame option , however when using the option from nvidea control panel vsync has worked correctly.

However since the latest patch 372.2 the game now stutters and hiccups with vsync enabled within nvidea control panel as well as in game.

Please note i have tryed frame limiting power profiles full vsync adaptive and triple buffering , removing all overclocks etc.

I noticed before path the refresh rate within game stated 59 hz now it states 60hz , also please not it does not matter if you run the game at 4k or 1080P with highest settings or lowest settings it will stull hiccup / stutter with vsync enabled. I would like to know if this is being looked into at all or you are aware of this issue as for me and others the game is now unplayable.

System Specs are :-

I7 4770k @ 4.3 (Mount Doom) : 16GB Kingston Savage DDR3 2400 : Geforce Titan X 12GB : Asus Sabretooth mark 1 : 8TB Split / 4 : Samsung 256 /850 / Superflower Lead Ex Platinum 1000W : Fractel Design XL

Also as this is a vsync issue it obviously affects play both online and offline

others with problem here :-

I tried thaat method, didnt work. Tried atl-enter to windowed mode and back, didnt work too. With ingame Vsync on or off there is stuttering either way. Even deleted the setting xml, and re-adjusted the graphics setting, this didnt work too... Playing with the refresh rate values didnt make any difference. So its Rockstars turn from now. I will submit a ticket too, and then im out.

Like others. In previous version I turned off in game v sync and used nvidia v sync. Game ran at 1080 maxed settings except grass. 59hz refresh.

Also disabled page file as have 16gb ram.

This was noticibily smoother and seemed to stop stutter.

This new update has f*cked all of that up. Only get 60hz refresh option and it's stutter central even with 50fps.

I noticed a new advanced gfx option too. Frame something?

Are rockstar just interested in crippling their own game and forcing players to update to it.

What a joke. Sure this is to do with refresh rates. It should for me, be 59hz like windows 7.

I'm certain this is from that ill gotten gains update and the no longer present 59hz refresh. This stutter was similar before when using in game v sync, but the nvidia one worked smoothly. Quite dissapointed, especially if rockstar dont fix it.

I'd rather have smooth gameplay than some flashy stupid cars. f*ck sake.

Actually there is 59 Hz, check in the settings.xml in your Documents/Rockstar Games/GTA V folder.

I submitted a ticket, and they answer is:

OK... how the f*ck do I make screeshot of a stutter? :D Come on R*.... The most I can do is send 'em a screenchot of the bugged refresh rate in-game option, which is like 50, 60, 60. But I don't think that's gonna be much help..

Lol, that is so stupid. a screenshot of something that only occurs in motion. You should link them to one of the many "gta stuttering" videos and tell them this is the issue you have.

I notice it when moving the camera around the player or watching cars move. I have steam overlay always showing fps. I assume its dropped when i get stutter, but its around 50-60. So annoying.

You are correct, the setting.xml shows 59hz refresh rate, but displays this as 60 in the game's options. I'm assuming this is similar to when people say 60fps and its 59.940fps in reality.

Least that means there is no mismatch.

This has been bothering me as well.

I'm using a GIGABYTE GTX 970, which could mean that the 3,5 + 0,5 memory issue is related (Though, I am not using more than 3,5 GB of VRAM)

For me, the game is unplayable right now. The constant stuttering makes me miss all the time, and driving is incredibly frustrating.

I hope R* fixes this soon.

No VSYNC however when I did have it on it still varied and made no steady frame rates toggleing it on and off just made the stuttering stop. In nvidia I have made a program setting to turn vsync off and I am using Geforce's recommended settings.

I've done the toggle vsync or alt-tab thing. I have to do that every time I load up or the stuttering is really bad. Like Xbox 360 fps bad. That's always been the case pre or post patch and really is a simple enough fix not to bother me. In this case, it's not as constant of a stutter but more like, smooth and every 3-4 seconds a noticeable jump of what feels like at least 5 frames, every, few, aggravating, seconds. Otherwise perfect 60fps. This has only been an issue since the last update. I also have two 60hz options in my settings in GTA as well.
