It's not about the advantage it gives me. It's about the fact that they accumulate an item without any work while I earn the same item in a 6 person shoutout. I just think it's extremely lame and rather unsportsmanlike.

Than what about all those invite only lobbies with 4p taking turns to get the crate.? They don't have to "work" or have a shootout for it, are they cheating too?

(Btw, i'm not using a lag switch. I've tried it during the festive event to be honest, but it either does nothing or kicks me into sp.)

Cheating to break world records in video games is a common thing that most people have accepted. There are legit players and there are cheaters. Whether or not you take records from either, both, or neither camps seriously is up to you, but there's room for all types of players for record holding in video games. Everyone has the option play THEIR game however they want.

 

This shirt stuff, is just you complaining for the sake of complaining. No real good reason for it.

So, because I feel that my gaming efforts are are made moot by cheaters I am the one at fault?? Because you do not agree with me I am supposed to sit silent and say nothing?? If I, and other players, feel slighted by the actions performed by other players, are we not entitled to our opinion and the option to speak out against the injustice we feel we have experienced??? Not exactly sure what you hoped to get out of this topic.. The majority of GTAO players will abuse the game anyway they can, either with in game exploits and bugs or others mods. Surely you realise this by now?

 

I agree about it losing the value since most people will find away to own it due to exploiting the game, but that's just the way it is. You're better of banging your head against a brick wall than trying to talk people into not using it.

 

How is sitting in a crew or invite only lobby and taking turns getting the crate a cop out. Just because you don't play the game that way, it doesn't mean it's any more earned because you had to fight off other people for it. A lot of people only play in private lobbies with their friends so should they just go without if it comes along?

Well the OP sure has a point! Even if it's not affecting other players it is pretty lame if you ask me. Looks like a few virtual goods are really important to people tho. But that's just human i guess. We need to abtain everything - doesn't matter what it is. And we need as much as possible, as quickly as possible with almost zero effort.

In my opinion, using a lagswitch to get a special crate isn't cheating. If you think it is, then by that logic, am I cheating if I'm crate hunting using my crappy wi-fi that naturally splits the lobby every so often?

 

If anything, it's helping others because you split off from the main session and it's one less person fighting for the stupid thing.

I'm guessing that's how player's teleport. I see that often, and I see them flashing around when I try to shoot them. It needs to be stopped as it is not harmless at all.

People use them against me all the time on pes soccer and in that game it has a massive effect on your gameplay u feel cheated to the point u stop playing it .Using lag to clear a lobby for a crate in gta isnt that bad really,its much more fun hunting them for yourself imo.

using them to gain an advantage im pvp situations is cheating and a extra cheap move in my book.

 

using lagswitch to split a session, is harmless, as me splitting the session dont affect you, me taking a crate drop alone in my lobby doesnt affect you.

 

i have both an actual lag switch and a software lag switch, couldnt get none of them to work yesterday, i got my shirts legit, does that make me a better player than a person that used lag switch? NO

 

do i get a feeling of accomplishment? NO

It's cheating, but the kind of cheating that affects no one else so I guess I don't care. As for whether "rare" items stay rare, I just don't care. Most players don't use lag switches anyway; it's not like this changes things so that ten times as many players suddenly have something that they otherwise wouldn't. (If it's even twice as many, I'd be stunned.)

"Every thread" being one thread...as I'm trying to stay on topic to get back on the good side with mods..

 

Here's the deal...I made this thread as a DISCUSSION with my opinions cast aside in order to get a gist of the general feelings of the community, but since you want to post out my personal opinion:

 

 

I played "legit" for 3-4 hours today and gained just as much as "lag-switch" users, according to posts I've seen here in GTAF. When you lag switch to acquire limited edition items, you do, indeed, discount the value of these items for those of us who shoot at and fend off 5 players to EARN that shirt. This sh*t is MEANT to be earned, not lag switched and acquired because you have "work/finals". I have the same circumstances, but I MADE TIME to play the game and EARN the items that are meant to be EARNED.

 

Inthe long run, whether it affects me or not, the way you earn these items displays LEAPS AND BOUNDS the kind of GTAO player you actually are. And, I'd rather earn my keep than be spoiled.

 

I disagree. Its just a T-shirt not like they are giving away special weapons. WHy should one guy have a shirt and the next guy cant have one because he happened to be unable to get a crate.

Weapons should be earned but tshirts ehh. Just because you are obviously a bas ass player doesnt mean everyone is going to be as good as you : o)

I fully agree with the last part of your statement, so why should someone less badass than myself be able to "glitch" a shirt that I earned to wear as a badge of honor, when they didn't earn it at all?! It makes said shirt "less special", ya dig??

you forgot a couple things...

 

R* servers are sh*t because of lag switchers

 

heist got delayed many times because lag switchers

 

golden luxor is 10millions because of lag switcher

 

hahaha you wont say that stuff if you knew what a lag switch is and how it works.

 

lag switches are used to interrupt the constant communication needed between your console and the servers.

 

consoles and server need to "talk" very often and a phisical lag switch simply cut out this constant flow of communication.

 

lets look at this like a group arguing at work, everybody is talking to eachother(full session) all at the same time, you want nothing to do with that(crate drop notification) so you just go silent(activate lag switch) and calmly step away into the next office which is empty(everyone left). the boss(server) know youre still in the building(gtao), youre just not part of the argument(populated session) in the other room.

 

 

a software lag switch like upd unicorn, udp flooder, nettools, xlag is a bit different, instead of cutting out the communication, it generates noise that disturbs the overall communication efficiency.

 

lets look at this like a phone call. youre at the bar(server) with the friends(full session) your phone ring and by mistake you answer, its your wife bitching(crate drop notification) because its 4am and youre still out, so instead of hanging the call, you go and stand next to the jukebox(activate lag switch) and go like "hellooo, theres to much noise here i cant hear yooouuu, ill be home soon", when you turn around your friends are not there(everybody left) and your left there in the bar(server) alone with a huge tap bill.

I can see the OP's pov. He wants his shirts to be rare.He wants to fight for them to make him feel like he accomplished something. Thats fine.

To me fighting a couple scrubs for a tshirt is not really an accomplishment but to each his own.

 

Working towards rank 100 and finally getting that rpg was something I feel I earned and was an accomplishment.

Beating CM was an earned accomplishment.

Beating all the elite challenges with both my charachters was an earned accomplishment.

Reaching rank 500-also a hard earned accomplishment.

 

Fighting off 3 scrubs for a Dis tshirt? Come on really lol

I guess different players have different ideas of what earned means. If your a scrub I guess fighting off 3 other scrubs for a shirt is a big thing.

We need a split screen video of 2 friends in the same lobby, both going for the same crate, 1 lags out while the other doesn't then we see what happens to both lobbies. Surely someone can put that together.

I lagged switch for half, lag switched for some Christmas stuff too.

 

I have better things to do than fight over crates all day until I get the shirts. Especially since there are greedy assholes who want their prizes to be even "rarer" and hog every crate.

Even without the event weekends I see way more of these than kill target, distract cops, armoured truck etc. I never bother with them though, or trevors planes.

Are the Special Crate Drops only in Public lobbbies, or do you just need a miniumum number of players in a session whether it's Invite, Public, or Crew? Only asking since there's really no difference between a group of friends taking turns in a Invite lobby compared to someone lagging a public session. Nonone will know the difference anyways unless they go around bragging about it. With the way the servers are acting today, you really don't need a lag switch program. I keep getting seperated within 10mins of joining a session. A couple times with a special crate on the way.
