Stealing Special Crates

I was in a public lobby just a few minutes ago, trying to get special crates so I can unlock some of the new limited edition t-shirts. Already collected the Dis Tee last night and was gunning for the Le Crew Tee this time around.

 

When the crate was being dropped I flew as quick as I can to the drop zone, but someone killed me before it dropped. When it did drop, he collected it (it said in the game notifications) and I was about to text him GG, but not after I kill him first...for good measure. After I gunned him down, the special crate package popped out, same as when money pops out when you kill a player or pedestrian. At first glance, I thought it was some glitch in the system and wouldn't allow me to pick it up, but I decided to try anyways. When I walked over to it, it said I collected a special crate and gave me all the contents, including the minigun, $10K and Fake Le Chien Crew Tee.

 

Just wanted to share this since it never happened before. I've been killed almost immediately after collecting a special crate in the past, but I don't think I ever dropped it. Also not sure if the other guy kept the contents or not.

It was probably a lag/glitch that you got that won you in your favour as well as giving him the stuff.

I got a special crate drop before I left to work today. It was the Le Crew Liberty T-Shirt, which was the ONLY one I liked. So now I'm not going crate hunting anymore.

Lucky you, I killed a guy who managed to swipe a crate from me on the last attempt I made and only got a kill on him...and then another guy who was parachuting to the drop site. They can both thank R* for the glitch that didn't give me a shirt from the one crate I was able to get today.

I try and make a point of killing the player that got the special crate, because f*ck em, it's a dog eat dog world out there.

 

First special crate I saw I got killed by a player long before it dropped, but I got my own back and killed them just before they got to the dropped crate and another player got it, then killed both of them for good measure.

 

I've been hopping lobbies looking for the drop message, then when I see one it's Hydra time, fly to the middle of the map at the ceiling of the play area and wait. It's got me 3 tshirts so far so it must be working

I had a special crate drop not long ago

 

Me and this random were going for it, all of a sudden another random pulls up in his Chrentorno and drives right over the crate

 

The moment he gets out me and the first random immediately gun him down and I end up grabbing the crate from under his car

 

Serves him right for trying to steal a crate drop in the weakest of ways

During the festive event i had that happen to me. I had just picked up a crate but got gunned down immediately after it. I didn't get the content of the crate even though the notifications said i had picked up the crate and the person that gunned me down picked up a crate right after the notification that said xyw killed (me). I filled in a ticket but didn't get any response, so i guess this was part of the game.

I do that too and the Hydra tactic hasn't failed me yet. I'm in a lobby right now with a crate about to drop and there's no one from the observatory up to Grapeseed, so I'll just hope that the crape is dropped around any area that isn't the airport or the docks. I already collected 3 crates and got the fake Perseus, Le Chien and Dix shirts, but I'm just trying to get all 4 even though they're pretty crappy in terms of design.

 

Edit: the crate was dropped near the place where you deliver the Insurgent and Valkyrie in the Human Labs heist. I didn't encounter any resistance from other player upon getting my Santo Crappa T-Shirt. A couple minutes later, I see a fast approaching player on the map (who took way longer than he should've because his driving was terrible) and he rolls up to me in a Zentorno and tries to run me over (I was in passive mode just to rub it in), so I just run straight into the water and he just stared at me. Only other time that happened was when I got my first beer hat. I used the Buzzard and I was the closest to the crate drop, so I went and got it. Minutes later, another Buzzard comes around and he tries to kill me by landing on me several times... Didn't work out for him and I ended up killing him like 5 times before being disconnected.

Don't think it'll happen often and the game probably had a major brain fart, but I'm really lucky that it happened. I'll look to try it out when I with some friends in a private lobby. Anyways, nice seeing you on the forums, Darth lol.

still, last time i was to late for a crate i just turned around because i don't like to be in gunfights for no reasons.

seeing this it seems there is an actual reason to take out the one who just picked up the crate
