Crainy
Hai, Im new here and I hope I posted this in the right forum (and that Im not violating any forum guidelines...), Anyways, I dont own GTA 5 nor have I ever played alot of GTA, however, as someone who likes to mod, I am toying with the idea of purchasing GTA 5 mainly for the purpose of creating a quality Transformers mod for it, seeing how I figured that the huge and alive open world of GTA 5 would make a great playground for some Transformers action. I wanted to ask modders how feasible this is considering the current state of the modding for the game. The intended platform is PC. Just to get this out of the way: I have alot of experience in modelling, rigging and animating, I have access to a huge amout of quality Transformers models and I have rigged and animated fully transformable Transformers for games before, so all that isnt an issue. I also have decent experience in sound design. The only thing I might need help with (it depends) would be scripting. What I would need to know from you is if the current state of GTA 5 modding is there yet to support such a project? The goal would be to simply have a fully playable Transformer that you can ravage through the world with, nothing more. Does GTA 5 support importing new models? What are the limitiations? Can new animations be imported? Can the size of the player character be influence in a meaningfull way to get the size across? How feasible are transformations, can scripts make the process of transforming happen (basically switching from a player character into a car, again, the animation itself wont be a problem)? How about the implementation of custom sounds to make it abit more authentic, is that possible? Can the NPCs behavior be influenced, so for example that they run away as soon as you transform or show up somewhere in robot mode? Basically, those are the questions I would like to have answered. Any links to GTA 5 modding related material (like tutorials and discussion) would also be appreciated. It would also help if you could tell me what tools would be used for what (are there official modding tools?). Blender or 3DsMax? Anyways, I am just trying to get to the core of the information I need seeing how I have limited time. Alright, thanks for reading and quality replies would be greatly appreciated! Jitnaught
First off, there are no official modding tools. OpenIV, which is the program modders of GTA use to edit archives of GTA, does not support model or animation importing. Sounds and pedestrians behaviors are possible via script. Oh and welcome to GTAForums. Edited June 12, 2015 by LetsPlayOrDy

Oh and welcome to GTAForums. Mh, thats a shame. How long do you think will it take until importing animated models will be possible in GTA 5? I suppose making this mod would be possible in GTA 4 (would it be? I dont know, I know custom models are a thing there but ofc there needs to be more to this mod than that), however I have to say, GTA 4 appeals to me alot less with its world beeing basically just one large bleak city... Jitnaught
Yeah it would be possible with GTA IV. I agree with you that V appeals to me more than IV. I've always wanted to live somewhere warm lol (irl btw). The OpenIV team is working on it, but there is no release date yet.
