WTF is this passive mode sh*t?

Wanted to help my friend get his cratedrop but some people who tried to grab the crate were in passive mode so I couldnt harm them wtf??!. Might as well add godmode if passive allows easy crate drop colecting.

 

When I called him out for him he said itg was part of the game and the entire lobby defended him. Seriously my brains are melting because of how stupid some people are.

Passive mode shouldn't even exist in GTA. Friendly fire is on by default so nobody should be able to have god mode for as much as they want and exploit it to get free easy kills. They should just implement friendly lobbies soon and get it over with. God damn is this company so complicated.

Its a well known and commonly used tactic. If you want easy crates, get 4 people and go into a private session and they'll begin to drop.

I recently noticed they made it so you can't go in passive when in a HPV or simeons car list vehicle so I'm sure they're make not being able to do cratedrops in passive soon.

Passive mode protects you against stupid modders who decide to blow up all people in the session.

Other than a few exploits like OT said, there is no reason to remove it. If someone wants to be safe from RDMers, he can feel free to enter passive mode.

I was having a shoot out near that circle when dumb lag kicked everyone from the server so I had no problem getting to the crate..

 

But thanks for the tip about passive op il be sure to try that as soon as I get back online later lol

Passive mode is useful sometimes (if someone is off the radar trying to kill you; if there's a modder in the session, etc), but you shouldn't be able to pick up a crate if you're in passive mode - you should fight for it. I'm on PS3 and fortunately it's relatively easy to deal with people who abuse passive mode.

He let them do all the dirty work and kill all the NPCs then stole the crate for himself. I didn't even know about this, now I'm going to try it not cause I want the shirts but just for laughs.

This was being used like crazy during the last crate event (at Christmas), maybe the one before that too. Not new. I do think Rockstar should make it so that you can't pick up a crate in passive mode. They fixed the Simeon high priority vehicle so you can't drive it while passive; crates should be the same way.

 

Funny thing is though, I've gotten three crates today - perfect 3/3 in pretty crowded public lobbies. And in all cases, I showed up first (thank you, Hydra and its new spawn locations!), then 1-2 other people showed up... too late, and in passive mode. Amusingly, the result was that while they were protected from me, I was also protected from them, and got to stand there with a shotgun pointed at them for when they inevitably switched off passive to try to get a cheap frustration kill on me for beating them to the crate. Many lulz were had.

 

In short, who cares if they're passive. Just get there first, and stand right in the center of the crate icon until it falls on your head.

What I said back in Jan of this year and still stick by it (well, the first part, not the last seeing as R* patched it already):

 

 

 

 

 

 

Using passive mode to get crates is fine, as you can still get killed by the NPCs and anyone else can still get to the crate as long as they are fast/first. Using it for HPV is not fine. Noone can take it from you, which defeats the point of it. "First come, first serve" is bull too - you're meant to fight for it. If you want it that bad, go Invite only. Don't stoop to exploiting a game mechanic and trying to defend yourself; it doesn't work. The only time I agree with the pussy mode insult is in this case, because it is a pussy move.
