Best thread about this update.

I love how R★ trolls the fanbase while also giving them what they want.

I love my douche makeover.

I was probably a douche before the update came out but I've only come to terms with it recently. Interestingly, it was while I was sitting in my golden jet...

This solid gold post goes well with the solid gold update.

OP gets it, most people bitching and moaning on here don't.

You don't NEED any of it. You want it because it's new and cool.

Do you know what a duvet is?

It's a blanket. Just a blanket. Now why do guys like you and me know what a duvet is? Is this essential to our survival, in the hunter-gatherer sense of the word? No. What are we then? .....We are consumers. We're the by-products of a lifestyle obsession. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy sh*t we don't need. The things you own end up owning you.

I'm fine with the outrageous clothes pricing. It's still make sense. You're talking about Zara and LV knock-offs here.

I'm also fine with the price of the Stirling and the unnecessarily fake-LV sponsored Windsor that made an excuse to jack the price up.

But I still don't find anything in the Osiris justifying its 1.95 mils. It's the second worst next to the Lectro when it comes to land vehicle pricing.

I initially thought this was another bitching thread and reported it...I'm glad I re-read it. I have to agree with this post 100% and have to ask op for forgiveness for jumping the gun if it gets closed (I retracted my report).

Both are the sexist vehicles in their class imho.

The Lone Wanderer

imo rockstar are greater trolls than all the jets, twankers, chrinsurgents and kurumas combined

it makes sense for them to make new cars slightly better than the last though.

although on the next money glitch I'm looking forward to orisis dupes.

Good post.

I reviewed all the new stuff and found nothing to spend any of my 30 million on except maybe the Virgo. When snow is featured again i will buy one or two of the winter coats.

The Osiris for all it costs is not as good as some supers costing much less. The Cheetah looks like the Osiris, costs much less, and imo superior in performance. The Osiris at high speeds feels floaty and unstable. The Stirling looks very cool, has decent excelleration, but slow waaaaaaay down for turns and curves. The Windsor looks good, offers liveries, handles well, but slow excelleration will keep it parked. The Virgo upgraded is decent for the price, has good performance for cruising, and like the Stirling and Windsor will be more of a trophy car than an everyday ride.

Another thing people don't seem to get is, this stuff will always be here. It doesn't have to be bought right away. It's not going anywhere.

For the most part, a large portion of the people that can afford EVERYTHING in this DLC have got glitch/mod money, i.e. ill-gotten gains. I tip my fedora to you, R*

DarkSavageDeathlyCloud

TLDR: The new stuff from the Ill-Gotten Gains DLC is ostentatious. It's designed to be gaudy and prohibitively expensive. The more you balk at the pricing, the better the DLC works and the more effective the items become. And, honestly, I kinda like having something to work towards again...

*****

R* has done it again. The Ill Gotten Gains (pt.1) update is not what you think it is...

Much like the I'm Not A Hipster DLC, The Ill-Gotten Gains DLC contains a hidden barb from R*. If you remember the I'm Not A Hipster DLC, it came with hipster clothing and some hipster-esque cars. I'd wager that most of the people that bought them did so because they liked their aesthetics and/or thought they were cool and unique (kinda like videogame hipsters) while the rest of us looked on in bewilderment as to why these cars cost so much when they did so little. But that was just the surface. The I'm Not A Hipster update was a lowkey shot at the actual GTAO hipsters. They added three "rare" vehicles to the the Vehicles websites:

  • The Buffalo S - Franklin's previously unavailable Buffalo that was modded in at some point and only obtainable through duping it from someone that happened to have one, but was, mysteriously, never blacklisted.
  • The Obey Tailgater - Michael's car wasn't "rare" per se, as it did spawn in the world, but nowhere near as often as most other cars.
  • The Nagasaki Hot Rod Blazer - Trevor's previously unavailable [fugly, boxy] four-wheeler that, much like Franklin's car, was modded in and duped.

There were owners that were upset about their once rare vehicles (that got extra rare once R* patched up the duping glitches) were now available for all. R* created "hipster" cars while taking shots at the actual "hipsters".

The Ill Gotten Gains DLC is no different. Much like the I'm Not a Hipster content, the items in the new items in this DLC appeal to a certain kind of player. Nothing introduced does anything any better than anything we already have access to for literally a fraction of the price. EVERYTHING in this DLC is for people that want to show off. That Osiris? You can buy 2.5 Zentornos and get the same performance. That golden Luxor? The regular one seats more and costs way less. The chains, the clothes, etc... It's all about being seen. You don't NEED any of it. You want it because it's new and cool.

And the fact that people are so angry about the prices only makes them do what they were designed to do even better. People bitching about the price of the Osiris? Now, when you see one, you think "That's that $2M car..." When you see that platinum chain, you think "That's a $65K chain." Gun skins? Gold shoes? This entire update is solely about being ostentatious. When you see someone with something from this DLC, you KNOW they have money (and questionable taste)... to spare.

I'm a simple, humble guy... but they got me too. I owned one Super that I kept around for races. It was in my garage solely because it had a use and served a purpose. But, I bought an Osiris despite the exorbitant price. I don't even like Supers like that, but I bought it and modded it. And I drive it around despite the fact that I own other cars that I like better. Because it looks good. And people follow it around. I even park it and leave the door up. Because I can. And I DARE someone to blow it up. This f*cking content has made me a douche.

And that hidden barb? Ill-Gotten Gains. I've been playing this game since it came out, got a decent level and play missions fairly regularly. I went into this DLC with several million dollars and I couldn't afford a fraction of the stuff on offer. For the most part, a large portion of the people that can afford EVERYTHING in this DLC have got glitch/mod money, i.e. ill-gotten gains. I tip my fedora to you, R*.

Truth be told, I'm not even mad at the prices this time around. Up until this point, I've been able to buy everything I wanted from every DLC that's come out. I think, for the most part, everyone has been able to. I think that's what's got people's jimmies rustled the most. Unless you've got Adder bonds, glitch skillz or you blew a modder, there's not much instant gratification to be had here, LOL.

Are the prices ridiculous? Most definitely. But, it's been a loooooong time since I had to actually work towards something, hell, anything, in this game. That's not a humble brag, everyone I know bought Insurgents and Kurumas the second they were available. This is refreshing, though. I've actually got an in-game goal again. That hasn't happened in forever. And pt.2 will be out soon. I've got to get grinding for that because I imagine it'll be similar insanity. This DLC? I like it. :D

In b4 kersh kurds

the blade and pigalle perform great in their class for the price, same for panto and rhapsody

also most of the cars in that update looked great to me, exept for the blade :p

also the buffalo s is one of the best sounding cars in the game to me(still have it) and looks better to me then its real life counterpart, and i honestly wound find myself an obey tailgater(i dont buy what i can find) if i had 2 extra properties because i think it looks good.....actualy my secondary character had one

further i agree with you on the aircraft, but the orsis is much more stable over curbs then the zentorno and we needed a car like that....trust me, in the long run you now will see more of those then the zentorno, and after that both will become equal on populairity

also please, though claiming being tricked in a trap in youre mind(you buying the osiris) makes you sound humble, it also makes you sound.....not realy a smart person

personaly i woud love to buy the osiris because of its price(anti jet grief trick) and the fact its more stable then the zentorno), extra content doesnt make me a douchebag unless there is some challenge or award to act like a douchebag in a sertain way.

also on how every update only satisfies a sertain part of the players......GTAO is a jack of all trades, you can race in it, treath it like a first person shooter, and other sh*t, its simply imposible to satisfy everyone with one update.

some people want more guns, some want nicer looking cars.....what is a good looking car is again a matter of opinion and then some people want more things beside that like gambling, doing drugs and all that kind of sh*t

With a name like "Ill-Gotten Gains", the response to cheaters and money floods should be obvious to all.

Should be.

The on-going irony is that R* are like a mafia ring leader to us little-league criminals--keeping tabs on what crimes we can and can't do.

But as a hardcore realist/minimalist, it's still a yawn. I'm just thankful for the bug fixes that came with it--that's where the real content was.

10/10 would read again.

Broughy said that the Osiris is SLIGHTLY faster (and I mean SLIGHTLY faster by 0.008 seconds) so it's not really worthe extra 1.3M, I will still buy it entirely because I like it, but the Zentorno worth the money much more.

Still, considering I have 10.5M left from completing the Criminal Mastermind Challenge+lots of money earned from grinding Pacific Standard, I might as well spend 'em while I got 'em.
