Terminus Est
Well okay to begin with, me and my Dad were at the mall at Electronics Boutique over christmas break trying to find any game that I might like. I had a $25 gift card with me and I also had my eyes fixed on GTA Vice City, my numero uno choice. I asked my dad if I could get VC with my gift card, but all of a sudden he started arguing that that game is too bad and hardcore for me. He said that the game has too much graphic violence and even has X-rated material in and he also claims to have heard that while watching the news. I mean well yes I know my dad cares for me, but I am 18 and can distinguish between a game and reality. Hell I also have been a master GTA 3 player for a while now, and he knows that for sure. But when it came to when we were at EB, he backed me down from getting VC, because he simply thinks it is "worse and more immoral than GTA 3." I know that VC has some major improvements in graphics and gameplay over GTA3, but as for the graphical nature of what goes on in VC, well is my dad absolutely right? Phil Ca$$idy
your 18?... wait give me a moment... ..your..18?... (in other words if you are...18...why don't you just get it? )
Ice_cobra
Maybe hes American and needs to be 21. That would really suck badly. The game has, blood gore and violence, Strong language and strong sexual content. But if youre 18, you should be mature enough. Terminus Est
I'm also at least not offended by anything porngraphic but my dad doesn't know that. So if he sneaks up on me while I'm playing VC and sees my eyes fixed on something pornish/X-rated in the game, then he will REALLY start to break out the exorcism on me. Yeah I'm american. But I saw an "M" rating on the game box instead of an "A" rating.

I think thats it. oh and you run a film studio which specialises in porn fliks, you dont see alot tho
LanceVanceDance
Dude, you can buy the game on your own. Just go to the store and buy it... I mean you can drive even... Your dad should not have any say.
superdino
You can totally buy it by yourself, I did and im 16. I suggest ou rent the game first, and show your dad some of the bad stuff, and alot of the good stuff. Tell him it IS just a video game, and ask him "Do you really think I am going to grow up and be a Crime Boss is Miami?" Anyway, that is what I did, and it worked, just dont show him evrything bad you can do. Oh, and include "But i can hop in this ambulance and save lives...". Dude, you can buy the game on your own. Just go to the store and buy it... I mean you can drive even... Your dad should not have any say. Nope. I don't drive. I don't even have a car nor a job to afford saving for it, heh. I just simply never felt like getting a job and a car. Yet.

franchise2020
first off...i do agree with the rating system...superdino...you had absolutely no right to buy the game...its a M rating which means 17 years of age or older...yet im sure the clerk at the store didnt check your id of course...like they ever f*ckin do...hell...im 18...i got the game...my dad knows bout everything in the game...its kool...hell dont pull that bullsheet ambulance thing man...i mean c'mon your takin advice from an 16 year old...jus get the goddamn game...cuz as far as im concerned...there is ABSOLUTELY no nudity in it...yeah the girls are topless but they dont have any nipples...i mean wtf...they coul be wearin a skintight leotard...thats why i question the nudity part...yeah there is a helluvalota gore in it...but its obvious who is the child in your family....your dad obviously is so damn uptight...get the game...show him the game...its plain bullsheet when parents do sh*t like that...like we dont know the difference between real life and virtual reality... superdino
The rating thing isnt like a law, it is a warning, telling us and our parents what is in the game. My parents wouldn't let me get GTA3 till spring last year, they just had to realize I was mature enough to handle a Mature game. So, Terminus Est, just wait awhile if he doesnt want you to get it, or just rent it or have a friend over that has the game. You will get it some time. Maturity isn't always an age thing, it is life experiences, friends, and how you deal with situations.
lordgort
Be honest with him and tell him EXACTLY what you can do in the game. From the sound of things, he'll at least respect your saying that.
franchise2020
superdino...shut the f*ck up cuz you obviously dont know what the hell your talkin bout...it is the law you f*ckin idiot...that why they put sh*t like that on it...its a law that says you cannot sell the game to an underage person and ...superdino...thats what you did...you and the store clerk broke the law...get your facts straight before you start ramblin like a f*ckin idiot... n0esc
Actually franchise2020, you are the only one that looks like an idiot here. There are no laws, federal, state or otherwise that pertain to the sale or rental of games in the United States. The ESRB (Entertainment Software Ratings Board) is a is a self-regulatory body established in 1994 by the Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA). ESRB independently applies and enforces ratings, advertising guidelines, and online privacy principles adopted by the industry. To date, the ESRB had rated more than 8,000 titles submitted by 350 publishers. The ESRB ratings are followed on a strictly volunteer basis by retailers to appease the conservative tree hugging hippie crowd. Better to make them think that little Johnny couldn't possibly buy the game without the parents present than end up in court every 3 days because someone thinks a video game turned thier kid into a murderous zombie. Sorry to burst your bubble, but check YOUR facts first... Rambling like a 12 year old that just learned how to curse makes you look dumber than the mis-information you spew. But if youre 18, you should be mature enough. hold on you dont have to be 21 to get a game in the usa. The only thing you cant get till you are 21 is booze. But you can go to R rated movies at 17 and you can get porn at 18 so why cant he get a game that is said to have x-rated stuff in it? (i dont see any x-rated stuff in it), It is your right to be able to get the game and I dont think your dad is going to kick you out of the house for buying just a game. tuff_luv_capo
uhh, first off this is what happens "Dad, I'm getting Vice City" "Nah, too violent. Pick something else" "Nope, this is what I want. Let me see if I have a gift card" "No, put it back. Too violent" "Sorry but I'm getting it." "No you're not." "yea ok, I have enough for it" "Well you're not getting it" *walk to register and buy it "Welp, time to head back home" "You better return that." "Nah, I like it." Hahah, I do that all the time to the bitches at EB who tell me not to buy sh*t. Stupid whores can't do that. BTW, if you are 18 with no car, job or money, you never needed to tell us you were american.
Clutch Fan
He also lives in that mans house. Its his dad, he goes to work 40 hrs out of the week more than likely to make sure he has a place to stay. If his Dad doesn't want him having it out of respect he should obey until he gets his own place. Its not the issue that his dad would kick him out for getting a game. Its the point that he would totally disobey him and that could get him kicked out. I wish some of you could read your responses when you get older, you would be embaressed(sp?) by some of your posts. Some of you have spoken like true children.
