The MG's rise and the Assault Shotgun Falls

Recommended Posts

Courtesy of Rockstar's official patch notes, the machine guns have been buffed and the assault shotgun's range has been nerfed. Below is are exact details:

 

"Some weapon rebalancing tweaks have been made based on community feedback. The MG and the Combat MG have increased damage, and the Assault Shotgun is now less effective at longer ranges."

Good to hear about weapon re-balancing. The Combat MG is brilliant but for killing it was terrible.

Good. Shotguns aren't meant for long ranges.

 

True dat. Now I'd like to see the NPC's shotguns' also see the same nerf - currently they have better range than my sniper. :p

Finally, I'll try it out later but It'll be easy to notice, you will see less kids using it for everything lol, good the MG needed a buff

I used an assault shotty on a car that pulled up near me today and the nerf is noticeable. At even medium range it took a lot more shots to put him down. Guessing this change was to differentiate it more from the heavy shotgun and give that weapon a little more purpose.

 

Haven't tried the new MGs yet, but I used to use them a lot and found that at least the combat MG was at least equal to the powerful assault rifles. So this should be interesting.

Now what Rockstar needs to deal with is f*cking NPCs.

That quality of NPC is what they wanted. The only fix is to make em respawn more frequently and pop up closer to you, wherever you are, and will shoot even when the model is still transparent.

Pointless nerf. A real life assault shotgun is nuts!

 

As long as the carbine is still good I really don't care a great deal.

What R* did:

The damage value for MG was 30, now it's 40 !

The damage value for Combat MG was 32, now it's 45 !

Assault shotgun

Before:

After:

<BulletsInBatch value="6" /><DamageFallOffRangeMin value="5.000000" /><HudRange value="15" />

Am I the only one that thinks that the combat mg was already strong enough? I use it as my go to mid range when too close to snipe and too far to shotgun

Well as a guy who mainly PvE, I still find the rifles more useful, but perhaps that's because the bullet sponge Terminator NPCs can only be effectively dealt with through headshots only, and the Combat MG's accuracy doesn't help with it.

 

I'll withhold any comment regarding PvP until I can put it to test... which is to say probably forever.
