Ill Gotten Gains DLC (Weapon Discussion Thread)

With all of the hype surrounding the new cars and clothes, this little detail managed to get overlooked and I thought it was particularly interesting. So I figured it might be something that warranted discussion...

 

The new gun coming for this latest update, the PDW or "Personal Defense Weapon" at first glance, looks much like your standard light machine gun... However upon closer inspection, there is one VERY interesting detail about this weapon. It's made by COIL arms, which for those of you who don't know, is the same company that gave us such electrical wonders as the Railgun, Stun gun and Voltic sports car.

 

Most munition based weapons in the game, are produced by the company Hawk & Little... The only time COIL makes a appearance, is when it's a energy based weapon or vehicle.

 

Do you think this could be a toned down version of the railgun? a new stun gun? or a means of disabling vehicles perhaps?... Either way, we'll find out in a couple days, but until then, this certainly adds a whole new dimension of intrigue to what it could be?!

Sorry to disappoint you but it's not THAT much special!

It just uses a battery to fire rounds faster!

These PDW's exist in real life too!

But they can give it a meter like Stun gun!

As long as the weapon is using the battery rounds fire much much faster but upon depletion it fires rounds slower but deals more damage!

Yeah, but. . . it looks like just a regular gun. They'll probably say it was built by Coil to showcase some electronic scope they make, like how tire companies "build" cars for SEMA.

I doubt it is a an Energy Weapon of some sort, as PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) is uaully set aside for a certain series or type of Submachine Gun.

But that long barrel/body seems so weird! PDW's don't have long barrels/bodies

It's definitely not a normal PDW! It has a barrel that's longer than most of the AR's and PDW's always have short barrels!

I think the barrel should've ended directly under the scope! That would make it a normal PDW

It'll probably be an SMG, I am thinking a very high fire rate and accuracy, somewhat like the assault smg P90, whatever it is I'll get it

the only thing i dont like about this dlc weapons is that because they are dlc, the tints are unlocked...

 

i really like the "kill X amount of players to unlock" type of thing, it give you a challenge.

This gun has a magazine and a small sized ejection port for small caliber munitions. Looks like an SMG of some kind.

TBH none of the DLC weapons, aside from the homing launcher and marksmen, have really been "better" than what we already had from the start. I'm not expecting big gains over the other SMG's from this newest piece.

Over in the Ill-Gotten Gains thread we've been picking this gun apart and I think that discussion continues nicely here.

I personally feel like this gun is based off of the Knight's Armament Company PDW or a Sig Sauer. Both guns are about 5 lbs., making them perfect for a new SMS category. However, these weapons are operated with gas pistons in the barrel to allow Assault Rifle damage from a much smaller arm. So, technically, if you replaced the gas power with Coil technology you'd have the same kind of gun (at least in GTA standards).

An SMS weapon with assault rifle power sounds, to me, like a good fit for a new GTA weapon. And, it would make this gun special and unique in it's category. So, while I also at first insisted that this would be some sort of Saint's Row style electrical weapon, after researching PDWs I'd say it's much more conceivable that we're getting an SMS on steroids.
