Can't shoot out of vehicle

One of the guys I play with often experiences this problem where he cannot shoot out of a vehicle. The only way to fix this so far is to do a GTA race, then it allows him to shoot out of the vehicle. But it keeps happening over and over.

 

He's the only person I have heard of having this issue - not affected me or anyone else I play with.

Or has he 'Aim & fire' set in the driveby settings, but still trying to shoot with only one button perhaps?

Tell him to hold both bumpers to see.

Seriously, check all his settings first. See if any are different than yours.

There are some blind spots while trying to shoot from a car.. So that may be a reason other than that do what they said check settings and see of passive mode is on.

 

If these don't work burn the game and get marshmallows.

As I said, he just cannot fire from a vehicle until doing a GTA race which fixes it, but this is a nuisance

Have him kill himself to see if it resets his character. Then manually sign out of GTA Online, PSN/ XBox, and then try again.

 

Finally, check to see if it happens on both characters or just one.

I didn't know there were different aim settings. When I'm driving it auto aims, when I'm a passenger it's free aim I think. Can I change this?

You don't get auto-aim (locking on to targets) when you're driving...

 

Only way to change locking on to targets as a passenger is to switch to Free-Aim.

no, as a driver you can never use auto aim.

you can choose between "shooting" (which is aiming and shooting at the same time by holding l1 or left shoulder button) and "aiming and shooting" (which is aiming with l1 and shooting with r1).

but both options are free aim.

as passenger you actually can use auto aim when the settings are on "aiming and shooting".

Had this issue a long while back. I deleted a supposedly corrupted SP save file, and everything went back to normal. Maybe it will help idk...

he's going to try playing a bit in SP and re-saving at a different point to see if it was the issue.

It's happened to me regularly. I even called R* tech support. You know what they told me? It was my CONTROLLER. Yup, Sony made a bad batch so they said. I replied, hmmmm... I've tested it on BOTH controllers and the problem is the same. I ended up going into the GTA race and unsticking the 'unable to fire while driving' problem - and emailed them. Their reply, 'ok, thanks.'

 

Passing the buck. Lame, lame, lame. I know they know about it.

 

It's a bug. Yesterday I had to do the full contrast readjustment and it's been fine since then. We can only hope they address it for the DLC this week.

yeah it's ridiculous that they rarely acknowledge the problem. was/is your issue story mode related at all like suggested?

Are you in an armored Kuruma? There are certain angles that you won't be able to shoot out of if you're in that car.

^ This. Had this happen to me before aswell. Couldnt fire in both online or SP. Loaded up an older save and i could shoot fine. Deleted the newer save and i was good.....Well, as good as it can get when you lose about 20% story progress. Autosave was also corrupted.
