Flourak
Sup guys, New to the Vehicles threads so I apologize if anything is incorrect. I also wouldn't exactly class myself as a 'carguy' because I lack a lot of the necessary knowledge. Although I definitely know what I do and don't like! I'm wanting everyone's opinion on the VW Scirocco. Looking at getting one sometime next year, most likely a 1.4 TSI or the 2.0 TDI GT, hopefully to start as a little project. Stick a body kit on it and get it wrapped etc. But yeah, if anyone owns one, what are they like to drive, mpg and all that? Answer any questions you deem appropriate. Thanks in advance - Flourak (This is probably what I'm looking to achieve as an end result, looks wise....) geraldflesy
sivispacem
LewisMiller on here has a 2.0 TSI with a few tweaks. I'm a big fan of them; better steer than the equivalent Golf and I think they're better looking though. Your two engine choices aren't what I'd go for but I don't have things like insurance or economy to worry about. R kit and N24 style kits aside, they don't suit aftermarket bodywork. There's a members car on PH which is matte grey and looks really good, but be warned- crap wraps outnumber good ones I've seen by a factor of about 10 to 1. Zyo
They're great cars. The DSG is interesting and works well if you are going that route. Its a better car than the Golf, and way cooler, but is a fair bit less practical. You can't get a set of golf clubs in the trunk for example. 2.0tsi is the motor to get, but if it is between 1.4 or a diesel the tdi is a solid performer with good economy and you can also consider a remap for more power further down the line. I wouldn't slap a random body kit on it either, Rkits are tasteful and look great. Mm, unfortunately being 19, I do have to consider the fuel economy and insurance etc. Yeah, definitely wasn't thinking about any body kits outside of the VW manufactured stuff. The Type R kit is most likely what I'd be looking towards. And thanks for the heads up on matte wraps! I'll be sure to find a reputable company. They're great cars. As regards to how I'd use the car it'd be a basic A to B thing with short distances as well as driving for enjoyment so boot space wouldn't be a factor I'd say no to the car over. Performance is definitely something I want so I am more inclined to go for the 2.0 but at the same time re-mapping the diesel sounds a good idea. Any idea of what sort of gain on the bhp I'm likely to get out of that? And yup, most likely going for the Type R body kit.
Zyo
Well there's already extras in the diesel GT spec. For power you should expect to reach similar bhp figures to the 2.0 tsi. A shade over 200. geraldflesy 1 GTA IV REAL NYC AT GTAFORUMS GTA IV REAL - V8 RUMBLE http://gtaforums.com/topic/782964-reliv-gta-iv-real-v8-rumble/?do=findComment&comment=1067267056 https://www.nationstates.net/region=gta_forums
Sean O'God
Well, since you're asking for opinions, my first choice for a cool or sporty car wouldn't be a Volkswagen. I'm really not a fan of the Scirocco, nor most hatches in general, but I respect the 'Rocco for what it is. You could certainly do a lot worse. sivispacem
At 19 I can see the need to be careful about insurance (though it's worth noting that declared modifications have a pretty big impact on premium prices for younger drivers). Personally I don't see the point in the diesel. The heavy engine blunts the handling, it's pretty gruff and unrefined, and midrange aside doesn't really feel that punchy. They only really make sense if you're communing 25k plus. The turbo only 1.4 TSI would be the pick of the bunch for me in 160bhp form (well, of those available to you anyway). The 122 is a bit lacking and the twincharged 1.4 180 phenomenal but suffers with some quite serious reliability issues (excessive oil consumption in particular). I'd only touch a Twincharger if it still had manufacturer warranty for as long as I intended to keep it. The 160s map up to about 200bhp (most tuners claim circa 210-220 but they tend to be a bit on the optimistic side). Flourak
Zyo - Great stuff, thanks dude. Looks like the 1.4 might be the deal breaker then. TwinTurbo - My problem is that I have to consider the most basic of things such as mpg and insurance due to my age otherwise yes, I'd be going for something better. sivispacem - I guess depending on those modifications and what sort of an increase on premiums they'll have will decide whether or not I declare them. As regards to whether or not its a diesel that doesn't really matter. I think I'd prefer a petrol engine as I'm pretty sure unleaded is becoming cheaper than diesel anyway? Overall, looks like getting the 1.4 160bhp and re-mapping is my best option considering the 180 has those problems you spoke of sivispacem. I'll most likely be buying second hand from Autotrader etc. so I doubt they'll have much as regards to manufacturers warranties still in date. Statistically speaking, what are we looking at as regards to improvements from the remap (roughly)?
sivispacem
Yeah, diesel is going to get shafted for tax soon. A map from a reputable brand (Revo, AmD etc) will get you a pretty decent improvement across the rev range in terms of performance. The impact on economy will probably be negligible assuming there's no fundamental change in your driving style. It's not a massive power hike, but drive it really hard and you will end up cooking the clutch which aren't rated for huge power. That'll probably take the dual mass flywheel with it and lump you a £1k bill so... Insurers and the police are coming down extremely hard on people not declaring modifications, to the point that people are actually being denied insurance if they've previously made fraudulent statements, and it's treated as an aggravating factor in criminal prosecutions for dangerous or careless driving. Maps are pretty hard to detect but drive through an ANPR camera in a car that's marked as blue but is currently matte grey and the police might be having some words. Flourak
Re-map is a go then, considering it wont make a difference on fuel economy. Mm, something I'll have to be careful with then. I'm not up for racing anywhere just I think everyone loves to kick it down the motorway every so often Something which I'll have to consider then. Sounds like declaring all of it would be a good idea, just the fact that being 19 might mean I'm going to end up with an extra £1k on my insurance policy. Yeah, fair point. Something like a paint-job I would declare, because I doubt that's gonna make much difference on the insurance premiums. I guess I'll have to look into it and see what comes of it when I get the car. Thanks for the help sivispacem and everyone else!

BigJoe_1
They're good cars, no doubt about that. From what I've read they're fairly reliable the only downfall being the shocks and their tendancy to rust more quickly than other cars, keep in mind this is just something I read in a magazine last year so it may not even be true however it's always better to be sure of these things in the event that it may happen without you even knowing. Personally I don't think the body style is the best one they could've chosen but I still like it the only thing that confuses me is how some people think this car is a coupe. It's not, seeing as it has a (sort of) streamlined roof that slopes down steeply to make the boot. As for performance I can't give you defininite answers since performance is something you judge by yourself and not based on what others tell you . If your into at all why don't you give it a satin white finish or wrap since you said you want to wrap it rather than paint it. Satin paint has more of a shininess to it than matte but isn't glossy like actual gloss paint. If you can't picture it well enough here's a link to a thread that focuses on worn (satin) paint which BTW can't be added in GTA at LSC: http://gtaforums.com/topic/782581-custom-lsc-crew-color-show-share/page-2?do=findComment&comment=1067276501. Flachbau
I wish the newer models were sold in the US.. (or are they sold here already?). I'd definitely choose it over the Golf since it's a big larger, and it's probably more comfortable. Edited June 12, 2015 by Nick
LewisMiller
I've had a Scirocco for about 8 months now got mine from new, they are great cars to drive had no problems with it, the steering is very responsive acceleration is good throughout the gears best looking VW in my opinion. Only negative is the car has very bad visibility out the front and back i'm 6'2 so it might be different for you this doesn't bother me so much as drive a van daily so i'm used to using my side mirrors. So far to mine I've fitted the R side skirts to get rid of the black strips down the sides, lowered it with 35mm H&R springs and got some 19" 3sdm wheels and change some interior bulbs. As sivispacem said stay clear from the 1.4 160 if it was manufactured before 2011 it has numerous engine issues. Also if you want any oem parts for a fraction of the price use this website http://allegro.pl/listing/listing.php?bmatch=seng-ps-mp-p-sm-isqm-3-mt-0519&category=4094&order=pd&search_scope=category-4094&string=scirocco heres mine New wheels Old wheels R skirt Edited June 12, 2015 by LewisMiller Spectacus, sivispacem and BigJoe_1

MyName'sJeff
Personally, I don't like the shape that much. I know it's unique to the car itself, but especially if you're a tall guy, it's very very hard to look back when necessary especially when parking and stuff. But I like the overall design because it looks very modern and there's something that catches your attention. As far as the peformance is concerned, I myself have never driven the car so I can't say much there. But it's one of the cars I really want to drive especially hearing the reviews. I've seen a few driving instructors teaching people to drive in a sirocco which fills me with envy, meanwhile I learnt how to drive in sh*tty fiesta, and standard Astras. Anyway, I guess the problem with VW is their cars are just expensive as f*ck. Golf's are just insanely overpriced.
