Some of the Contrived Heist Storylines

Has anyone else noticed how some of the mission storylines make little to no sense. They just seem to be twisted in a way which makes you complete a mission using a specific method.

For example the prison break bus story. Apparently you have to get a real prison bus because buying any old bus and painting it would be too expensive. Much cheaper to hire 4 guys, arm them with guns and send them on a murderous rampage.

Also the bikes on Pacific Heist. According to Lester we can't use helicopters because they can't turn fast enough. So instead we use bike with the turning circle of a small ship and realistically no prospect of ever escaping a helicopter.

What other storylines bother you?

By choppers, lester was referring to the other style of motorbike.

Also, why do The Lost have those bikes? What are they holding onto them for the Uptown Riders?

Ha. A good helicopter pilot can make a helicopter turn pretty quickly. What a joke.

Edit: do you mean "chopper" as in a bike? I don't think it's a helicopter. (I haven't played any of the Pacific Standard setups or its finale, so sorry if my post seems off.)

stupid things happen in heist, like in series A...

go to LOST camp, kill everyone but make no noise, YET every remaining LOST magically seem to know we are there and rush to attack us, making the stealthy approach nothing but a waste of time.

Ah, my mistake.

Still surely motorbikes out in the open parked in a place with only 1 exit is an awful idea. And why would the helicopters just stop chasing and allow us to get away to the boat?

Also it always struck me that they couldn't really think of anything meaningful for the 4th guy to do in the prison break. I don't get why you have to steal the first bus and destroy it while the guard and prisoner get the second one and take it to the prison. Why not just not destroy the first one and use that instead? Can anyone explain? Did I miss a part of the story?

Yeah, a totally forced stealth mission. Really quietly kill the rednecks in case anyone hears but when robbing the bank just shoot as much as you like

You can't examine it. In the Pacific Standard heist, you have to steal a large, slow cumbersome vehicle and keep it safe... in order to get a little box out of it at the end. THREE TIMES.

I had the same reaction when I heard that line the first time.

There'd be other issues with doing up a regular school bus to try and pass it off, but being too expensive is probably not one of them.

How pricey could it possibly be to get their hands on an early 80's International Harvester School Bus... :p

Why spend about five grand and be discreet when you can hijack an in-transit prison bus and murder everyone inside? What could go wrong!

You will never get realism in a game like GTA. Imagine getting one life and if you die well game over forever. Kill one cop and the entire city shuts down until you are caught. Etc, etc, etc.

Yes but there has to be some suspension of disbelief. Otherwise why not let us float to our destinations and why even make us collapse and respawn after 'dying'?

Wrong thread

The only good story I got is joining up some randoms for setups of the prison breakout, we got through the setups and got to the finale, the host last second cuts me short to 5% thinking I didn't noticed. They set me up as demolition, after about the third attempt they got up on the air with the pilot, at that point I rubber banded my controller at the interactive menu and left the avatar doing hip trusts while I went out for lunch. When I came back some 20 minutes later, the heist is still going and those idiots have sent me around 14 messages that i'm an ass and better get on the helicopter. At that point I just laughed and shut off the console. Best heist experience ever!!!

I think you meant to put this in another thread.

I haven't played the Pacific Standard setups or finale yet so I thought it was helicopters. I thought the OP of this thread was right when they said "helicopters", lol.

I actually like all the Heist storylines, I think Rockstar did a good job on creating a whole universe around the characters and only revealing glimpses during the story cut scenes.

For example, it's cool to see the Vagos be more than neighborhood thugs, during the SP campaign it wasn't implied, but Lester and Paige work together, I love the whole FIB vs. IAA rivalry to the point they have shoot outs against each other. I love how the missions give you just enough info on what's going on, but not enough to see the bigger picture in GTA V criminal underworld.

I thought it was refreshing and to see Trevor struggling to get his business off the ground, but I also thought it was a major plot hole that he didn't recognize he was being used til the end of his Heist.

I hope we see more plot thread being fleshed out in upcoming updates such as who are the Koreans we stole the Armored Kuruma from, and to whom do those hidden bonds belong to from the Fleeca job?

As much as I like being the go to character for all these shady individuals, why give my online persona a personal reason for the missions, say start an empire, or a cartel?

I mean yeah sure there are a few technicalities Rockstar fubared, but overall I truly enjoyed the Heists.

Worst case is the armored Kuruma. Rob a small easy bank ? You need a fast armored car. Rob the biggest bank ever ? Small bikes will suffice. But in this case, this is clearly a gameplay choice. The last heist is a walk in the park with a Kuruma.

Now on the other end, why using the white van in Pacific Heist Hack ? You steal the black one as a diversion, but transporting your entire server during this mission is dangerous and pointless! Just take that internet gizmo and run with it in any car ! I swear this was only intended to force us to not use the Kuruma (by the way you can as long as someone is taking the van).

The transponder is a high tech piece of equipement and it is too difficult for us to get it out ourselves, so we have to take the whole van and bring it to lester's warehouse. But on arrival the woman just cuts it out with a knife in just a second. Yeah, that's something we would never be able to do...

Because the old bus doesn't exists.

Basically you are telling them to add a new vehicle.

If they let us use helicopters then they will send Lazers to hunt us down.

I would choose cops to chase me rather than lazers.

Haha. It's not even hidden, either.

If you're in the back of the van in first-person view when it's driving back to Lester's, you can clearly see it above the back door.
