sivispacem
350 million is way too much for this country. The US as a country has one of the lowest population densities in the world, along with one of the highest GDPs per capita in both nominal and adjusted PPP. The issues you've highlighted aren't caused by too many people, but too many stupid policies. Also, urbanisation, poor use of land and pathological laziness. If you're blaming decades of governmental and administrative failures in tackling poverty on overpopulation, I suggest you entirely reevaluate your understanding of the country in which you live. And when you adjust for inflation The rich aren't even as rich as they used to be. Guys like Carnegie and Rockefeller had fortunes north of $100 billion in current dollars. Only 1 American today even comes remotely close to that. Our economy hasn't seen real tangible growth in decades but our population continues to climb at one of the highest rates in the western world. Our GDP is alot higher than every European country but when you compare our standard of living to western Europe it's like comparing Detroit to Beverly Hills. And everything to do with seven decades of the staunchly right-wing US government not to mention large swathes of the citizenry, dismissing social programmes, universal healthcare and the welfare state as being "communist" and therefore evil. If isn't as if the reasons for the shocking economic and social disparity in the US aren't plainly obvious. And, to reiterate, no they're not caused by there being too many people living there. And, to reiterate, no they're not caused by there being too many people living there. And the real kicker is there would be no hope of people being able to immigrate out. Nobody wants American immigrants unless you are highly educated. Like seriously if I could immigrate to the UK I would clean sewers or work in a meat rendering plant. I wouldn't give a sh*t as long as I got to live in the UK. But only eastern European or African immigrants are allowed in for that kind of work. From what I have been told the only conceivable way an American could immigrate to anywhere in Europe would be if they had a PhD. Which again is impossible for someone like me because our education system is laughably overpriced. That also reminds of this girl I met. She left the UK to immigrate here 4 years ago. I seriously cannot fathom that. I can't wrap my head around why someone would make such a bad decision. That would be like someone saying "I was given a BMW M5 for free at birth but I think I'm going to abandon it and go through a bunch of sh*t and go and get an 01 Pontiac Aztek" Edited June 6, 2015 by gtamann123

sivispacem
If you're vaguely skilled and come from a country that isn't usually on fire it's pretty easy to emigrate to the UK on a work visa. You just need a Teir 4 licenced company to sponsor you to do it. But yeah, this is very off topic. When you have the population of England on food stamps your country is seriously overpopulated for its GDP Well if you only had one third of the people, you'd have one third of the industry, one third of tax revenue ect. and you would have one third of the people on food assistance. It's all relative. Doesn't matter what we do, there will always be people the top, people at the bottom, smart people and dumb people, people who want to work and people who want to not work and smoke crack all day. Yes there is a million things that could improve the ratios greatly, and being reasonably progressive I am sure that eventually the ratios will improve. But magically cutting population won't do that. Also doesn't having the richest people not being as rich mean that we are getting better wage equality? Plus the super-wealthy are far more inclined to donate to charity these days because they're in the public eye, and culture has changed a lot, Bill gates would probably be richer than those guys you mentioned, but he donates a very large amount of his fortune to charity, and so do other large money people.
