What's the purpose of suppressor?

I don't think suppressors actually reduce range and damage, as one thread did an inquiry and lots of testing on. Stats lie this time again.

Link thread or stop bullsh!ting please.
Why's it bullsh*t? If they coded the guns in the game to be as realistic as possible then a suppressor shouldn't effect damage or range because in the real world they don't.

Nor do they actually lessen the sound of a shot by much at all. It's not like in the films where a silenced pistol cannot be heard in the next room. We're still talking about gunpowder here and the propulsion of a bullet. It really doesn't make it that much quieter.

Hope this helps,

Log

Pretty much. The ammo you use can greatly effect the efficiency of a suppressor though.

I guess people never heard of subsonic ammo huh? Suppressors are only affective with subsonic ammo.

Grammar Nazi: Effective*

Also no theyre not. You can suppress supersonic ammo, but it will have lower ballistic performance and lower muzzle velocity than the unsuppressed counterpart.

Subsonic ammo is hardly or not even affected by a suppressor, maintaining similar ballistics and muzzle velocity compared to unsuppressed

Also Supersonic suppressed rounds are (obviously) louder than subsonic suppressed and require a larger suppressor to be effective

The only weapons where suppressors are truly not effective are revolvers (excluding the 3 or so revolvers that are designed to be suppressed)

But with all that aside, this is a videogame made by people with absolutely zero knowledge of firearms what-so-ever so they do what they want

I personally have a silencer on the heavy pistol, standard sniper, marksman(which I never really use) micro Uzi, AK(just looks bad ass with it on), combat shotgun and bullpup rifle(damage is still sh*t with or without it so it doesn't matter).

I mostly use suppressors for the sound and immersion. They don't really offer much in the way of help.

True. I myself really like how the micro Uzi sounds with it on.

I just keep one of each class of weapon suppressed... the one with the shortest range. Not sure if it makes a huge difference but it works for killing single / lone AI without alerting others around them in all missions.

I find it useful for stealthy missions and sniping too.

I thought supressors don't work with supersonic ammo because the bullet makes a "sonic boom" as they break the speed barrier, in that case a bigger supressor wouldn't work, would it?

Anyway, regarding deathmatches, doesn't your blip also appear when you sprint? I thought I read this somewhere. How about running without sprinting?

It was bullsh*t until they linked the thread they where talking about, for all I know before I found it they could have been bullsh*tting. Also, No gta 5 isnt based realism.

Supersonic ammo through a suppressor does not decrease the velocity at all. In fact, it could potentially allow for greater max speed as the is more chamber for gasses to expand. Also, anything through a modern suppressor is significantly quieter (lower dB, a unit of power).

Too much misinformation here to rebut it all. If anyone has a technical question about silencers then ask. I own them and have a degree in physics. Let's do this.

They aren't as realistic as possible. Guns have a magical cone of inaccuracy. Nor are they meant to be realistic.

Yeah they should probably reduce range and damage whilst increasing accuracy, but in game they really don't do anything apart from change noise.

I found in reality, as was told, that suppressors with subsonic ammo (the two are supposed to go hand in hand) do reduce the stopping power, but follow up shots or firing quickly in semi-auto, accuracy was definitely improved on 100m & 200m ranges. We didn't really notice much difference in range, but it's only like 10% when there is.

Source: a checkered past.

You can unleash clips of ammo with a suppressed weapon down an alleyway without police being alerted. It's a shame that if you shoot an npc, even if no one sees you get a wanted rating though. I don't know how they call the cops when they're dead.

The deer grazing on top of Mt. Chiliad in Story Mode heard it and reported it.

It doesn't have an effect on range, the in-game stats are wrong. It effects damage, but only minimally, to the point where it is debatable if it is even noticeable. Also based on my experience, it seems to help with recoil slightly, but I can't prove if it does or not. The main reason to use it is for death matches, so you don't pop up on other players radar. I keep suppressors on all my main DM weapons (assault shotgun, carbine, advanced rifle, and AP pistol) almost all the time, and the rest I may or may not equip depending on my mood, for reasons which are more stylistic than practical.

Do you recommend suppressor in the sniper rifle?

Cuz it's the only sniper that can have suppressor! (I don't count Marksman rifle as a sniper rifle!)

Why! Do! You! Use! So! Many! Exclamation! Marks!

Really just to keep you off radar in DMs. Ive found that using them in FR does cut down on police responding to you shooting but only if NPCs dont see you shooting or have rounds whizzing by their heads. Theres been alot of debate on whether they reduce damage or not and ive found that the Advanced Rifle/Carbine work alot better for me with a silencer and the Special Carbine without it. On another note, has anyone noticed that you dont have your silencer equipped while driving? I did some testing with AP and .50 the other day and found that even though its not shown on your weapon, your shots are still suppressed when doing drive bys. Whats more weird is that When you hop on a bike, the suppressor is attached. Been wondering why that hasnt been patched for a while now. Dont know if its the same for the uzi as i have no use for it in my wheel.

So i want to know what's the purpose of suppressor beside DM's?

I just lowers the damage and range!

But when you equip suppressor on the AP pistol it somehow decreases the recoil!

So what do you think about suppressor? Should i remove suppressors from my weapons or not?

Suppressors reduce the chance of AI's noticing you when in combat.. Especially cops.

Yeah that annoys me alot! I like the AP pistol with a silencer (It decreases the recoil!) Also i've used a silencer on my special carbine until now :|

My problem with suppressed Advanced rifle is the ugly sound! Advanced rifle without the Suppressor sounds amazing!

Why when i use suppressed weopons in deathmatches do I more often than not still light up like a Christmas tree ???

Leave one suppressed weapon, preferably an assault rifle, and remove from all the others. It makes no sense to keep the silencer on all your guns. People just want to have all the upgrades but the silencer is really a situational thing. Plus it makes the guns sound crappy.

Agree. In my opinion the weapon to keep this on is either the Micro SMG, AP Pistol, or both since those are the ones that you fire out of vehicles. Suppressed weapons are less likely to attract law enforcement.

It may be because youre running. Only way to really stay off radar when not firing your weapon in DMs is using L3 to stealth walk. Outside of that im not sure why youre popping up on the map.
