Are heists too much for Last-Gen to handle?

I know a lot of people will hate this because they want their beloved heists without having to upgrade, but I have to ask. I still play on PS3 because my friend can't afford to upgrade, but it is incredibly stressful compared to Current-Gen. You can't bring up the pause menu while in an apartment. If you do, it sits there for 15-20 seconds before working, sometimes not at all. If you're lucky enough to get the pause menu up and try to "Find a New Session" the whole console freezes. You also can't even bring up your phone. This is in an "Invite Only Session" by myself. The lag, while expected for some, is just saddening. It seems like ever since heists were released on Last-Gen, the game has gotten nearly unplayable at times. My question is, do you think maybe it'd be better if they removed heists from Last-Gen? What if it got rid of some of the problems?

 

I know they'll never actually remove the heists, but I'm just wondering what you guys think?

This has nothing to do with hists and everything to do with someone's dust filled, S.M.A.R.T. failing, and generally sh*ttily taken care of PS3.

I disagree with both those questions but on a related note I do wish R* would phase out last gen now, I know that will annoy all the last gen users here but its the only way the game will be able to actually grow and change with new updates. All of us who invested in the new generation of consoles deserve fully fledged larger updates not watered down updates.

I haven't played heists on last gen but the game ran fine'ish on my PS3 before then, well not much worse than PS4.

 

The game was primarily for last gen so you'd think that'd be the most optimized version?

 

Either way if upgrading's an option it's worth it just for the new lick of paint. Not a huge difference but some things do look gorgeous especially in fp.

And I'm not even a graphics whore but it's the little things that are noticeable.

Yep, I finally found it. I've never uttered these words, but now I can comfortably say that this is The Most Stupid Thread Ever.

 

Absolutely, remove heists from last gen and only leave freeroam. Remove the one good thing that makes people play together and let them only blow each other up for no reason. While at it, also remove missions and races, and all the cars except the Zentorno, Kuruma and Insurgent. Only leave pink and chrome color options. That will speed things up.

 

Of course heists don't work on last gen. Like, at all. What I've been playing for the last 2 months I don't know. I must have imagined all of it.

GTA v, as a whole game is too much for last gen, period. I fully blame r* for the red light error on my old x360 console. Was perfectly fine for so many games but with GTA V it was constant short freezes as well as permanent freezes due to being pushed to its absolute limits.

GTA 6 will do the same for the current gen whenever its released

Just upgrade. R* is a business and understands that a lot of people still play last gen. Once the majority upgrade to X1, PS4, or PC.... that support is going to dwindle. Tell your friend to enjoy his limited days in the dust of last gen. As one morning in the future (if he still hasn't upgraded) he'll log on to see next to nobody in lobbies. "Hmmmmm this is odd... only 3 people.... sure it does suck that my console is too old to handle any new updates.. but this game is still fun! Friend come back and play!"

It just irks me because I know a guy IRL that HAS $$$ to upgrade, but doesn't want to because "he doesn't need to'. UPGRADE YOU'RE ONLY MAKING YOUR GTA EXPERIENCE WORSE. GTAO for the old consoles is ridden with modders and hackers and each day, more people leave to upgrade to another platform.

yet there is things in the game that are not on last gen that only new gen and pc has that has not hurt a thing for any of them other than last gen not getting that stuff. so new gen and pc are and can grow while still supporting last gen. you guys need to get off your high horses and realize that you are not getting watered down updates.

What are Heists (From an Old Mans Point of View)

 

Nothing more than a Playlist list of missions, that require you to complete them in steps,really on the finales offer anything different the finales give the host the ability to set payouts and job roles.....if you removed this ability from the finales, and did away with the cut scenes all you have left is a playlist of missions

No it doesn't. I clean out my PS3 and replace the thermal paste with AS5 every 6-12 months. It has nothing to do with the PS3 itself. It's a bug that was introduced with heists...and that's all it is. If you have friends in the same session this will happen to everyone at the same time. It's not system limitations just an annoying bug.

I've not had any of these problems on the 360, still get the occasional 'stuck in the clouds', but that's about it

It's not freezing between sessions exactly, it's just after I select "Find New Session". It sits for a little, then freezes. Don't get many network errors, but a good bit of lag.

You make many assumptions. First, that Heists themselves are responsible for the problems with your PS3. Perhaps, it could be something not directly connected to Heists and only manifests itself within Heists. Keep in mind every update it's fairly common there are some conflicts with new vs. older code. Lag: we all deal with it. PS 4 is not immune to it. I view this more as a server issue at R* than anything our consoles aren't doing. Server splits occur quite a bit.

 

My XBOX 360 has been known to freeze on this game before Heists were introduced. So, at least in my case I wouldn't blame Heists.

 

I've been able to play Heists fairly smoothly all the way through on two occasions on 360. It's premature too say they are "too much." Yes, this game pushes last gen to it's max. It may be more of a case saying the game is prone to instability due to last gen hardware limitations.

 

Hate to say it, but 10 year old console(s) with 256 or 512 mb of ram, I would expect them to struggle. This game has a huge amount of stuff going on - and - being added.

Never will i pay to play online. PS3 is awesome and it works perfect for me.
take care of your ps3, all the things you mentioned in your post show that your ps3 is f*cked up and not being taken care off.
change HDD or just clean it inside. it has nothing to do with updates or heists, it's that your console has not been taken care off properly.

Please read before you post. I already said, in the 4th or 5th post, "My PS3 is well taken care of thank you.".

I played on a launch PS3 up until a month ago and experienced exactly none of the problems you seem to have.

 

The only maintenance I ran on my PS3 was periodically cleaning out the vents with a vacuum cleaner, as well.

 

Only reason I upgraded is the bluray drive finally failed.

 

The PS3 is fine to run what it's given in GTAO/V. There's no reason to cut support because it has a massive install base and a huge chunk of them already own the game, as well. They're all willing to continue to sign in and play and buy cash cards when needed.

 

I'm sorry that your investment in a PS4 doesn't feel as solid because there's very little new and good out there for it, but you should stop projecting on PS3 owners.

I completed all the heists several times so I'm willing to give them up for a smoother free roam experience. Immediately after heists came out my character started to freeze every now & then & I started seenig other players experiencing the same thing (the Jesus freeze - when a player can't move his character for several seconds & during that time the character appears to be spreading his arms like he is nailed to a cross). Freezing during a shootout or a chase is (to me) so annoying that I definitely would have been willing to give up heists in order to fix it if such a trade was possible.
