Is Racing Dead?

The handful of times I manage to join a race instead of being forced to host, it is never a normal race.

By normal, I mean in fast cars, not GTA mode, not user created tracks, not "alternative" vehicles.

Fun fact: the answer to "is X dead?!?" threads are always no.

You must have terrible luck OP, because most random races are normal tracks with supers or sports or compacts, with the occasional motorcycles, off road, and sports classics. I've only ever seen two stunt tracks and never any "alternative" vehicles.

We just did a NASCAR Playlist tonight after a couple of impromptu races. I would say no.

I stopped playing races; got other sh*t I'm working on instead. From what I could see, races were very much alive. if you really don't like the ones you're getting into, host your own. it isn't that hard, I do the same with death matches.

I stopped racing as soon as rockstar changed the system so you are always on call. I don't want to play some user created mind f*ck or some mega ramp bullsh*t. If rockstar can sort the system out, I'd go back racing.

There's racing crews, join one in the "meetup" section.

There's also racist crews, don't get the two confused or you may suffer a negative experience.

What are you talking about? It's now better with on call than it's ever been. It always tells you what race you are on call. If it doesn't fit you, you can always quit on call. You can finally avoid playing custom made races. And if you don't want to go on call and look for a race with people already in, you can always host one yourself.

When it comes to public lobbies, racing isn't dead, but it's sh*t. It's not racing with catchup and slipstream and playing dirty. If you want to race seriously, join a racing crew.

Not as good as I remember it. The first race I played at launch (not counting the tutorial) was The Commute. I love that race. I just wish more people chose Sedans instead of Supers all the time. The only decent Sedan race I had was on Dipping In, and that was close to launch too.

imo yes

it's all jumps, epic stunts, catchup, slipstream, gta camping race, ramming and all that bs and hosting takes too long.

I only race with 2-4 friends

also people leave as soon as they see catchup is off, it's not a streight race and it's set to something that's not supers

I did that too, until I realized I could push Start>Online>Jobs>Quick Job>Race. Then it sticks you back into a lobby like it used to.

Much worse with on-call if you actually care about what races you are going to do because you don't know if the host is setting it to GTA or rally or whatever, and the names aren't always obviously douchey "HUEG JUMPZ BRO OMG" type things where you know you want to quit so you can get stuck into sh*t races pretty frequently.

I think the Driving school should come back. Most people are horrible at driving. To be frank... Racing isn't dead, Douchebag that can't drive killed it...

All the race invites I get are for the stupid custom stunt jump tracks.

When I try to join a race via my phone, it's always Criminal records.

So I guess, in public spaces races are dead.

I joined a racing crew but I'm lazy to get organized and invite sessions are too bothersome for just a race.

I'm always down for a race. I have created quite a few races that are actually good, not some ramp style BS.

Add me on PS4 JakeHorgrove. Free aim only.

How is joining lobby before the game launches better? There's 90% chance it's a catchup+slipstream supercar race anyway, you should know what to expect by now. By joining and quitting you only waste time but with on call you can at least see what race it is.

Still, it's better to host races yourself if you're picky when it comes to settings.

Michael Schumacher almost died in skiing accident a while back, but as far as i'm aware racing hasn't actually died as such.

Hope this helps,

Hell no. Best thing about GTAO.

I think there might be a bug in the program tho. I'm not getting a lot of invites either, but switching to a new session improves them.

Try making friends with people who like to race.

As long as catchup and slipstream are off. I'm always racing. Try joining a certain crew that mainly races, there's quite a few.

If you join straight into the lobby you can leave when you see settings you don't like and look for a new lobby instead. With on-call you won't necessarily know whether the track is sh*t or if it's a GTA race or whatever until it's too late and you have to quit out of the race which nets you bad sport points.

I don't see how it should be hard for anyone who enjoys actual racing to figure this out.

For a lot of us still on PS3/360, racing crews are getting pretty tough to find as most of them have moved on to the One/PS4/PC. I've ran across a few crews in random lobbies but usually they kick randoms (just close your lobby, c*nts) or they have been drama queens and/or try-hards that yell and complain about every little thing that doesn't go their way.

By user created tracks you mean those all-you-can-ramp wallriding tracks and similar blights, I guess? I do not think that user created GP tracks are unnormal, at least not in a bad way. There is some good racing to be had on user created tracks.
