Pc fan not working/but working? Need help.

Recommended Posts

Okay, I am not a tech guy at all so if you are going to offer help don't go to technical on me.

I have a corsair cx430 power supply and it's always been a noisy bugger, Last night the power supply clunked and then seemed to run really quietly, then the pc shut off by itself. It would switch back on but loads of text came up before it booted and at the bottom it said that the fan had failed, even though the pc was still on.

I managed to skip that screen earlier and the pc is now running. The fan seems to be on but really slow or quiet.

Is my power unit kaput or what? I already panic bought another power supply last night after I thought that my pc had died on me.

Wihtout being able to hear it is sounds like the fan could be broken. If the PSU subsequently overheated then I guess the PC would have shut itself down. Can you look at it where it is mounted and see if the fan is spinning? If it's really broken then I feel like the same thing would have happened again.

If there are any signs that the fan in your PSU doesn't work properly, then I'd immediately cease to use it, and RMA it or swap the fan. Frying the PSU is really the last thing you'd want. Especially since this PSU is rated at just 30C.

I opened the pc and it was seriously dusty in there. I tapped the fan and the f*cker started running. It must have been jammed or something. I just got back from the shop and have an air duster. Going to clean the pc out now. Thanks lads.
