Money is useless in this game

I really love GTA 4, it is one of my favourite GTA games. But it really bothered me, that you can barely do anything with your money.

I only spend it for ammunation, thats all. Most clothes in this game suck, i only wear the suit. I don't even need go to the ammunation, i can take enough ammu from the dead enemies.

In GTA SanAndreas or Vicecity it felt really good when you got like 10k bucks after passing a mission. Especially in SanAndreas.

After the casino heist mission i bought a lot of expensive and cool clothes, got myself an expensive haircut, bought some nice apartments and pimped my sport cars to the limit. It was really fun earning money, because you really need it.

But in GTA 4 money is like points, nothing more

Well, at least we're able to use some of that money on some nice clothes and weapons.

It's not totally useless like in GTA III. But I get where you're coming from. Rockstar should've totally added more things to buy. You make so much in that game, but there's not much to spend it on.

Many people say that the 3D universe was a lot better than the HD universe. Having all that money to buy houses, clothes, weapons etc... R* took a lot of features away from gta 4 which kinda made gta fans a little mad. I just use it to buy food or whatever. I saw no point being rich in gta 4 if you coulden't buy anything other than clothes, food, and weapons. But i don't really buy weapons anymore since i use the weapons cheat. FYI i started to use the cheats after i completed the story. So buying weapons is kinda useless to me now. I don't know what else to do with my money. Last time i made niko eat 12 bleeder burgers just to spend it no joke. Then i drove somewhere to buy 20 hotdogs. If that was CJ he would already look like fat albert. I can already imagine if R* kept the weigh feature niko would look hilarious!

I am furious about the lack of things to do than money to spend on. Money has never been much of an issue with GTA for me.

The money in Niko IV was only good for paying taxi fares and that's about all, since taxis were a good option to zip from mission to mission instead of driving everywhere. If you know where the good carbine rifle, smg or armor spawn points are, you don't need to buy ammo or armor. I literally just stock up on carbine rifle and smg ammo. Heck, at Three Leaf Clover you get a full carbine rifle ammo load anyway.

I found in TLAD the money was a bit scarce starting off so you couldn't buy many weapons, although again the weapon spawn locations are still in exact same spots as Niko IV and same again in TBOGT.

It was sad that neither Johnny or Luis could buy clothes. I always wanted to see Johnny dressed in some normal clothes or even a Perseus suit but it doesn't fit his character and I guess that's how Rockstar wanted it. Bikers wouldn't be seen buying such expensive attire, but I could see Luis or Niko living it up a little.

Only other thing was in TLAD you could gamble on high/low and TBOGT you could bet on cage fights, but for what? Winning even more money. Money that didn't really have a purpose, other than taxi rides Imo.

After a certain point of the game, money does become superfluous.

The buying system in SA was so good that whenever I bought something I felt like I actually bought it, not CJ. I felt like I personally won money in casinos when I gambled. it was awesome. Especially since you go through three quarters of the game struggling to get buy and toward the end you become filthy stinkin` rich and max out the bank if you know how. It really gave the illusion that you made an achievement.

This 100%. SA's level of immersion is amazing.

Hardly any use for money is one of the biggest flaws of IV.

One of the major improvements in V..

This was one of the main problems I had with IV when I played it back in my first playthrough. You can't spend your damn money on anything except for weapons and freaking stupid clothes! Obviously properties and stuff was gone and I can understand that but man, there is nothing to spend in IV.... Niko's pockets are a little too full.

Not to mention also the ability to pull a rocket launcher out from his arm pit.

Like I've always said they could've added some sort of system that the money Niko gets could be used to pay off Roman's debts. And there are points in the story Roman uses the money elsewhere.

Spiritually Niko and Roman need money, but physically they don't. An oversight on R*'s behalf I guess.

I guess it was an oversight. I often wonder what the game would be like if you actually had to help pay off Roman's debts. Even if you helped pay for his new Cab Depot, that would also be good.

Pretty much. I only ever use it for after 100% to buy a lot of Ammo from Ammunation. sh*t's expensive. I usually pick up and hold 350 grenades and then get in my Police Stockade and raise hell. Love dropping out the grenades from the window as there is a pile of of cop cars and Enforcers on the bridges. The explosions are epic...

But other than buying those Grenades after 100%, yeah...Money is useless...

But money is even more pointless in III, VC, SA, LCS, and VCS. If you do the Side Missions, you get all the money you need to buy anything you want, and STILL have some left over. In SA, you can do inside track betting right at the beginning of the game and make 999,999,999. 999 Million is a bit much...It's un-needed...If you just play the game, you make money. If all you're doing is running over peds and trying to steal their cash or relying on some Story Missions to make it all, it's not gonna happen, lol...

The only GTA I find money an absolute necessity is Chinatown Wars, considering you only get 10 dollars, 50 dollars, 100 dollars, etc...Very low amounts from Story Missions, yet every Safehouse is 10-20 Thousand Dollars, and there is 21 Safehouses. They need to be purchased for 100%, so drug dealing is a necessity...

...And there is also Missions, like Stevie's Car Thefts and Brucie's Exports that give you thousands of dollars a vehicle to deliver. By the end you're sitting on like 3 million. It's plenty :D

Personally I've never had more than $500,000 as I didn't get the "Half Million" achievement until a few weeks ago. How do you even get $3 million?

Do you just keep all the money you get from side missions/missions and never spend it at all?

He probably completed Stevie's car thefts and he keeps selling cars as soon as he got $3,000,000. That's what I did to get a million.
