My controller aim preferences keep reverting to assisted aim

Every time I load into GTA 5 it changes my controller aim preset to assisted aim and the only way I can change it back permamentally for the session is by having my controller plugged in before I start the game

It's not hard at all but it's annoying and I'd prefer not to do it if i could

ummm why don't you just leave it plugged in? and if you do have to plug the controller in at some point , is it really that difficult to do before you play?

this is really a stupid topic....

It clogs up my desk and I really would much prefer not having to plug it in every time before i play and the go turn the settings back to normal. I just thought that this'd be a great place to post about a bug that may or may not have a fix

I think where they're getting at is that there is a mere 2 minute delay between before and after the game starts, so your desk would be cluttered for 2 minutes longer than otherwise.

the issue isn't just that the controller is sitting on the desk. I'm having issues joining heists and playing the game with my friends online because of this issue

I believe you're missing the point.

The workaround is so simple that I don't believe Rockstar will be making this a top priority on their to do list. It's a difference of:

Clicking the game first (to start it), followed by plugging in the controller ...vs... Plugging in the controller first, followed by clicking on the game.

In other words, you are not required to do any additional work, either way you choose, except that by choosing one way, you may have to reconfigure settings. Thus, the choice to choose the other way usually becomes sound.

The issue isn't just the trouble of getting my controller out and plugging it in. the issue is that I'm having trouble joining heists and playing with my friends online which is why i want a fix to this problem which is obviously a problem because it inhibits my ability to play the game to its fullest extent.

That is without third part software

So perhaps I'm misunderstanding your original post.

From the OP (original post):

Every time I load into GTA 5 it changes my controller aim preset to assisted aim and the only way I can change it back permamentally for the session is by having my controller plugged in before I start the game

Thus, it appears as though the following problematic behavior is observed:

When starting Grand Theft Auto V, the controller's aim settings is consistently set to "assisted" mode, despite any prior changes to the setting.

and (it appears) that the solution to the problem is:

Before starting Grand Theft Auto V, be sure the controller is plugged-in before starting Grand Theft Auto V. This will ensure that the game does not ignore previously-saved settings.

Is this the case? Or am I misunderstanding something? Because if it is, then the solution is to simply ensure the controller is connected prior to starting the game - thereby not causing the game to ignore or forget any previously altered settings.

Yes you're absolutely correct but I asked for a solution that would negate the use of a third party piece of software and hardware to be able to run my game

again this topic is stupid.... my controller hangs on a hook on the side of my case with my headset that I paid $4.99 for.... leave it plugged in and stfu.... I have never had the controller cause issues in any games, even keyboard/mouse games...there is something glitched in your system

What are you talking about when you say third-party software? What third-party software? And how does this have anything to do with the problem of your settings being cleared because you unplugged your controller?

try this for fun (since I'm not sure it'll work).

Have the remote plugged in upon start up, switch the setting to your preferred one in sp and save it in sp, then go online & save the game on the cloud loud oud (sound of echo).... then unplug the remote, make sure the setting is still your preference then save to the cloud (by changing clothes etc (just make sure the save icon is yellow). Then exit back to sp and check again to make sure the setting is right even with the remote unplugged, then quit and restart to see the result.

I'm only offering a possible fix because my default aim has been on free aim for a long time, im pretty sure it even stayed when I transferred my account. So I think you may just need to save it offline then online too without the remote plugged in so when you start up without it plugged in the default will be your preference without it plugged.

I know I over explained that and you could get quite drunk reading it if you drink every time you read "plug" ...but at least I didn't mention your furniture ;)

Oh wait I just did :/
