Artists & Bands You Discovered Though Video Games

Homemade Dynamite

This might annoy a lot of fans, but some people just learn about artists/bands from playing a video game. Who have you discovered though gaming? Here's mine:

The Black Keys ("Strange Times" in GTA IV)

Deluka ("Sleep Is Impossible" in GTA IV)

Crystal Castles ("Through the Hosiery" in Saints Row 2)

Sleigh Bells ("Riot Rhythm" in Saints Row: The Third)

Nero ("Me & You" in Forza Horizon)

The Naked and Famous ("Punching in a Dream" in Forza Horizon)

Arctic Monkeys ("R U Mine?" in Forza Horizon)

Little Dragon ("Crystalfilm" in GTA V+ and "Klapp Klapp" Forza Horizon 2)

CHVRCHES ("The Mother We Share" in Forza Horizon 2)

There's probably more, but this is what I can name off the top of my head. Video games are a good way to discover new music, since they often use songs by lesser-known artist (or lesser-known songs by famous artists), you get to see more than just what the radio shows you.

Arctic Monkeys ("R U Mine?" in Forza Horizon)

The Black Keys ("Black Door" in Driver SF)

Hot Chip ("Over and Over" in Forza Horizon)

The Juan MacLean ("The Simple Life" in GTA CTW)

Hall & Oates ("Out of Touch" in GTA VC)

Bloc Party ("Helicopter" in PGR3 and "Positive Tensions" in Forza 2)

Kavinsky ("Wayfarer" in Midnight Club LA)

I actually knew about Hot Chip before FH because of Saints Row 2 haha.

I discovered Skyzoo after hearing his song The Chase Is On in Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City, and now I'm a huge fan, and he is one of my all-time favorites.

Hmm... I don't know this just seems like another excuse for a topic for people to list songs they like - like What You Listening To Now and Rate The Song above you. What's the discussion we are having here?

I'll leave it open for now but if it just people posting random songs, I'll lock it.

Thank you!

It's about sharing your music discoveries though video games. We're not sharing personal songs we like but rather the songs that were in the video game in question.

Uhhh... let me see...

Bands and Artists?

Living Colour ("Cult of Personality" From: GTA SA ofc...)

No Doubt ("Spiderwebs" From: Guitar Hero... One of the 4000 that are out now...)

Mr. Mister ("Broken Wings" From: GTA VC)

Aerosmith (I think I found them through a game anyway, Various songs From: Guitar Hero Aerosmith)

Yes ("Owner of A Lonely Heart" From: GTA VC... I think there's going to be a few more of these)

Heart ("Barracuda" From: GTA SA)

Loverboy ("Working For The Weekend" From: GTA VC and SR2)

Jet ("Are You Gonna Be My Girl" From: One of the Guitar Hero games)

Tokio Hotel ("Ready Set Go!" From: One of the Guitar Hero games, eventually lead to me finding Ubers end der welt)

AFI ("Miss Murder" From: Guess... Go on, guess. No? One of the Guitar Hero games)

Chromeo ("Don't Turn The Lights On" From: DiRT 3)

Mott The Hoople ("All The Young Dudes" From: Guitar Hero)

Boston ("Smokin'" From: GTA SA)

The Outfield ("Your Love" From: GTA VC)

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band ("Her Strut" From: GTA IV)

Santana ("Black Magic Woman" From: Guitar Hero)

Fau & Wad Ad vs Pnau ("Changes" From Forza Horizon? Forza Horizon 2? one of them)

Nena ("99 Luftballons" From: GTA VC) I could've swore that the German version wasn't in VC though.

30 Seconds To Mars ("Edge Of The Earth" From: NFS Hot pursuit, I think)

America ("A Horse With No Name" From: GTA SA)

Time to confess a sin... Elena Siegman ("115" From: CoD Zombies)

Bloc Part ("Helicopter" From: Guitar Hero)

Not too sure:

Bon Jovi, I really don't know how I found out about him tbh.

Poison ("Talk Dirty To Me") Pretty sure I found this on one of the Guitar Hero games but I'm not 100% sure.

Buddy Holly ("Not Fade Away") Again, I'm not 100% but if I did get it from a game then it was Mafia II.

Songs from artists/bands I already knew about...

Arctic Monkeys, I knew about them but I didn't like the songs I heard so I never bothered with them until... ("Do I Wanna Know?" From: The Crew)

Aerosmith ("Lord of the Thighs" From: GTA IV, I didn't look into until I 'obtained' a discography). I played through GTA IV so much and I must've heard that song thousands of times and I never thought that it was Aerosmith.

Plain White T's ("Hate (I Really Don't Like You)" From: SR2)

Metallica ("One" From: Oh look! Another Guitar Hero game). I knew of Metallica but I didn't really listen to anything from them.

Busta Rhymes feat. Ron Browz ("Arab Money" From: GTA IV TBoGT) I knew of him but again, I never really bothered with him.

My Chemical Romance ("Teenagers" From: SR2) Again, similar story, I knew of them but didn't really bother with them.

Doobie Brothers ("China Grove" From Guitar Hero)

Black Sabbath ("Children Of The Grave" From: Brutal Legend)

I'm getting quite the list here... I'll probably come back and edit in some more later, I'm literally just going through my playlist. :D

That's awesome try and get some video of the show if you wouldn't mind (don't get in trouble of course) I'm going to 8 or 9 concerts in the next 3 months Colin Hay and BNL, Amos Lee and David Gray, and a few others

Majority of the music I listen to these days is from video games, EA games being the most dominant source for most of it. Hell, even my old username on here was based on a Fatboy Slim track from SSX3.

There's a snowmobile racing game for the PS1 called Sled Storm, which had a pretty cool soundtrack and you could put the game disc into a CD player and play through the tracks; which I thought was super cool.

From there I found out about Econoline Crush - they had three songs from two albums remixed for the game: Surefire, Sparkle & Shine, and Nowhere Now; all of which I really liked.

Also Paul Wall's Sittin' Sidewayz from SSX on Tour (Xbox) is perrrrrfect.

Feeder springs to mind, having heard Buck Rogers and Just A Day for the first time when I played Gran Turismo 3 years ago. Right from the off they became one of my favourite bands. I saw them a few times and bought every album from Echo Park right through to Generation Freakshow. It's just a shame the latter was so generic and incredibly bland as it meant the band faded away with a whimper.

More recently I came across Wolf Rider in NHL 15, with their song "From Where You Are."

Dilated Peoples - from the song "Who's Who" on Need For Speed Underground. DP member Evidence also had a song on Midnight Club Los Angeles called "Let Yourself Go".

The Chain Gang of 1974 - Sleepwalking from GTA V.:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt3PcA4UvPA

I actually stumbled upon it by accident while browsing the forums (Keep in mind I have never played GTA V) on a topic about speculation about the PC version of GTA V. One guy posted this in the topic and I don't know why but I was like "let's listen to this" and instantly fell in love with it. It's actually my favorite song of all time (IMO of course) to date. I don't know why but I have listened to this almost everyday ever since I stumbled upon it a year or so ago. There's another nice remix for it too.:

I love it.

Platypus Chairlines

Thanks to GTA: SA, I knew many bands/artists, such as Living Colour, L7, RATM, Guns N' Roses, Alice In Chains, Rob Stewart, and so on.
Also Need For Speed: Carbon gave me a chance to know bands/artists like, Priestess, Gary Numan & Tubeway Army, Roots Manuva, The Kyuss, Sway, Dynamite MC, The Vacation (and list goes on) My favorite songs were:

1. Are Friends Electric? by Gary Numan & Tubeway Army
2. I Am The Night, Colour Me Black by Priestess
3. No Love by Roots Manuva
4. Hype Boys by Sway
5. Thee Small Faces by Metro Riots

And the probably most important one for me was:

Green Day.
I didn't discovered them in GTA: SA of course, but ''thanks to'' GTA: SA.
Most players probably know, there is a glitch in the game that allows you to gain more gang territory (a.k.a ''Territory Glitch''). When is triggered, you become able to conquer gang territories also in San Fierro and Las Venturas.
Anyway, I was trying to trigger it with one of the known methods. I did what method said but I couldn't trigger it. So, I decided to take a look at glitch to see 'how to do'.
Then I watched the video below. I still couldn't make it but I really liked the song that plays in the background. In the end of the video, I learnt it's name is ''American Idiot''. Then I searched for the band and started to enjoy their music. Whoever that guy was, he made me knew these awesome band.

I used to be a music peasant that only loved metal for princesses... And then I played Brutal Legend.

Also i actually listened to HEALTH's first album before Max Payne 3 but i didnt cared much for it until i heard Tears, then i came back and listened to Get Color instead and it was f*cking awesome.

And they are releasing a new album.

Gesaffelstein (GtaV)

Flying lotus (GtaV)

Skrillex (Cod Bo2)

That's it, i'm more into the EDM scene and that isn't used much in games. I still like most of the game music though but i don't really feel like looking them up
