goblinthegnome
We all know that The Rolling Stones were meant to appear on the Liberty Rock Radio station in GTA IV's soundtrack. The tracks "Fingerprint File" and possibly "Under My Thumb" were considered for the game before they were cut. If I remember correctly, there was a French preview of the game around 2007 or 2008 that mentioned hearing few of their songs (notice it was probably around 3 songs by them). I'm just curious to know what were the tracks they heard from that preview. If anyone knows about this specific preview, feel free to leave info that pertains to this. For all I know "Gimme Shelter" or "Start Me Up" might've been the tracks they heard in that preview, in addition to the ones I have mentioned already. Oh, and the reason I'm doing this is to finally close the search for cut GTA IV songs. So far, this is the only thing that's left for me to search. Here's the possible list of songs they had at one point: Fingerprint File (Found in american.gxt file) Under My Thumb (Speculated) And here's the possible other songs that French preview heard. Gimme Shelter? (Generally clichéd/stereotypical NY-esque song) Miss You? (Mentions New York) Honky Tonk Women? (Mentions New York) Brown Sugar? (Infamously performed on a moving truck in NY's 5th Avenue) in the mid 70s) Start Me Up? (Has that NY feel) Dance (Pt. 1)? (Mentions New York) Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)? (Mentions New York) Shattered (Mentions New York) Edited June 14, 2015 by goblinthegnome MaveriX

goblinthegnome
Yeah I know that I can't get everything that I want, but it would be a nice attempt to see if anyone knows anything related to this topic. But seriously though I'm not being "pushy" on this topic.

goblinthegnome
Just watched the Daredevil series on Netflix, and I noticed how great Brown Sugar fit in with the 70s flashback. With that being said, I think it could've been used in the game, plus, they infamously played the song on a moving truck in NY's 5th Avenue back in the mid-70s, something that could be a pop culture reference that could tie in with Liberty City's atmosphere/vibe. Otherwise, the hunt is still on for me to find that specific preview. I think that maybe they were aiming to use their 70s funk/hard rock songs, especially since some of them are specifically about NYC, or reference it in the lyrics. goblinthegnome
References aside, were you guys surprised to see that a track from a band that has somewhat "high" licensing fees almost, like was really close, to being included in the final game? EDIT: Pls no more references, just speculation or maybe info on what other tracks were heard in that preview. Thanks Edited June 25, 2015 by goblinthegnome
Nico
If I'm not wrong, SA was about to include a Rolling Stones song too. Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? Did you ever wonder... ...why we had to run for shelter when the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?
goblinthegnome
If I'm not wrong, SA was about to include a Rolling Stones song too. Woah, where did you get that from? The only tracks that I know were cut was "White Room" by Cream on K-DST, "Let Me Ride" by Dr. Dre, and oddly "Gin and Juice" by Snoop Dogg on Radio Los Santos, which is weird considering that it was released a year later after 1992. MaveriX
I'm also curious as to what the third track could've been. But there's also the chance that the French preview just made a mistake on the number of Rolling Stones songs included, since I'm guessing they just had audio from the radio stations to go by and weren't supplied with an actual tracklist. "A French preview suggested that a third song by The Rolling Stones would be used on Liberty Rock Radio. However, only two tracks are present in the american.gxt file." If there was a third track, it should've been included in american.gxt You can read the full list here: https://gta.fandom.com/wiki/Liberty_Rock_Radio
